There was atime when Serena would have ben right up there but right now it seems the main contenders are Venus, Mauresmo and Henin. Personally i would go Venus.

in terms of being abale to hit attacking shots outwide then venus but in terms of speed dementieva is probably just that bit quicker than everybody!

Tough to call between Venus and Henin. Serena is very good moving up and down, but her lateral movement has gotten worse. She still plays good defense though.

IMPOSSIBLE

E.Dementieva, V.Williams or C.Pin !

I'd have to go with Justine, she just doesn't have so many bad days like Venus, when everything goes wrong. Venus is a close second though, then the rest.

What does having bad days have to do with movement?

Venus on grass. Henin on every other surface.

Venus is much faster than everyone on grass and hard courts...probably henin on clay. Sorry for leaving out Dementieva, but she doesn't do much with the ball all the time when she gets there.

Venus only had to take a few huge strides and shes there... whereas Justine takes has to take so much more just to make up the same ground  .. its hard to tell...

Somebody asked our man Wertheim about this--FWIW I think his list included Venus, Lena D., Justine and a couple of others.

Of course it's hard to say. Somebody ranked 90 in the world might be flat out faster than any of the Top 10, but lack the stroke to capitalize on their speed.

I don't know how fast Makiri is, but there was a set of photos of her and Elena running drills together and Lena was just blowing her away speedwise.

Yeah, but sometimes it takes us taller types a while to get the turbos spooled up. Don't think heights a real issue.

You're thread title question is different from your poll question, which is interesting only because the distinction may make for some discussion. I think the current fastest is Venus (most explosive first step, wind-like laterally and forward, also can leap for gets, volleys and overheads). But I feel the current best mover is Henin: all surfaces considered, she's the best at getting herself behind the ball and her feet in position to hit the most effective shot she can. Anticipation may be a factor here.

Emphasis on "current," because it seems as though things are just beginning to click for Venus, Serena may improve and I'm hoping that Amelie and Elena get their acts together by summer's end.

Venus and Henin are most impressive.

Venus gets the edge you almost don't see her running, she's just there.

Henin. Her footwork is outstanding so that when she gets there, it's not just some wild stabbing shot, it can be a winner. Her only issue is her height, limiting her reach. But still more than good enough.

1. Venus-is quickest
2. Henin-has great balance

Serena can still move but I say. Venus and Sugiyama.

Venus is clearly the fastest, in that she can get to SO many balls.

But Henin is better at getting to balls and doing something with them, when it comes to running up and down the court. Left and right, Venus is great on the run with her strokes and hitting winners on the run. Henin handles running up to short balls and drop shots better.

All in all, Venus and Henin are on the top.

Venus without a doubt :)
Justine and JJ are IMO very good movers too

Hingis - she's always a step ahead and she's not the fastest but her movement is fluid and natural.

But Venus is extremely fast.

Someoen made a very good point when they said fastest and best mover was different so thanks for that :worship: ummm i think maybe Henin has the best footwork, Venus just moves like the wind though.

Jelena, Justine, Amelie, Venus, & Shahar I'd say, in terms of a combo of speed and anticipation.

I take it the poll is for active players otherwise Lindsay should be on this poll:o

Anyway I think Venus or Elena are the outright fastest players. If there was a race between all the players either Venus or Elena would win.

I think the best movers are Henin and Jankovic. They are the most fluid movers and comfortable at getting around the court. They are almost impossible to knock out of position.

Kim could move better than all of these players though.

When Kim was here, she edged Venus out ever so slightly because of her footwork. But with her gone, its definitely Venus.

Serena and her diminished movement: :sobbing: She used to be SO FAST! Some of you guys have no idea...

There is no way the Kim was faster than Venus, and she simply couldn't do as much on the run.

I think Justine is the best mover. Her combination of footwork and speed is unmatched.

Shahar Peer moves as well as anyone on tour. She can't generate enough pace on the move, but she reaches a hell of a lot of balls.

Could Venus to do the split while simultaneously retrieving the ball back into court?

Is this thread about the fastest woman or best mover? Venus is obviously the fastest. When you're fast with long strides - there isn't anyone that's gonna catch you.

How does that prove that she is quicker. Venus doesn't do that because she doesn't need to. A lot of times that play was a detriment to Kim's defense.

probably Elena is the faster, but not the "best" mover, because she justs returns the ball...

Venus and Henin can move fast and attack the ball, so probably they are the best movers.
