View Full Version : Justine has a clear path to the title...unless Venus Williams is her opponent

Justine is a very clear favorite to make it to her third Wimbledon final, and the title, unless Venus Williams is across the net. The Kuz would wilt under the pressure as Justine would be in full confidence, but Venus Williams would def. put Justine on full alert, and would def. cloud the visions she has of lifting the Venus Rose Water Dish.

I don't think Justine will be in full confidence in the final no matter who she plays. She would have a great chance against a green, non-slam winner like Vaidisova or Ivanovic, a fair chance against up & down Sveta, and would probably have to muster something extra somehow to beat Venus.

If Venus is in the final she will win..... The only person to beat her in a GS final is Serena....she knows how to step her game up..... But i agree. Its Venus or Henin.... Venus if she makes the final....

I agree with everything you said. It wouldn't be a good thing to see another greeney wilt under the pressure of a slam final.

We will see.
Venus and Henin have not played in years, and Henin is much better now that she was before.

Serena already proved her progress in her play on faster surfaces.
Still i would not get that far, Venus has to get pass Kuznetsova first which should be her biggest test in her half of the draw.

Still i am hoping for a Venus-Henin final. That would be simply amazing.. a match that we have waited for years...

Venus's movement was astonishing today  If the final is Justine-Venus, Justine will cut most of the balls to Venus's forehand because she won't win the backhand to backhand rallies against Venus.

I agree, Venus has always controlled that battle against Justine. IF Venus plays like this she is the 2007 Champion.

Well, she has to get through Kuz first. But Kuz has not impressed me that much this tourney. And then, she has to worry about Vaidisova or Ivanovic. Vaidisova's serve could be trouble.

Yes if what you mean by past is earlier today. There isn't another player left in the draw who could beat Venus when she's playing like she did today.

Whatever

Her multiple wins against Henin between 2001-2003 won´t mean that she will definetly beat her in 2007. Players improve an eventually end up turning around head to heads, just ask Serena Williams for example.

Anyway Venus still has to play 3 more matches if she wants to get the title. Beating Sharapova does not make her the champion. Period.

Sharapova is NOT playing great tennis lately and still i don´t consider her a threat against Venus because of her movement and on grass Venus is simply the better player by miles.

I think Justine can easily win her first Wimbledon title.

Venus is the only player left in the draw that I can see troubling Justine.
And if she continues to play well, I think Venus will win.

Do not worry.
Venus is not the Venus of 4 years ago.
Henin is also not the Henin of 4 years ago. She is much much better right now.
She totally has the chance to face Venus in the final, I mean if both of them can reach the final.

Do you think so?
Justine's return is much much better than Maria.
You know how well Serena's serve today, but Justine still returned very good.

she lost to Hingis...and the only players she's beaten for her slams are Davenport, Serena and Henin *once*

Egads, I just watched like a couple of Maria's service games in Set 1, and she was horrendous. Venus was hitting deep, but Justine won't be playing like that, no way.

I'll watch set 2 later, since, I guess, that's where the quality of the match is.

thats true but venus almost always brings her best to the later stages of a grand slam even when not at 100%(2003 SF vs Clijsters) . unfortunately she had to face a better player in serena so many times in the finals. I just dont see her losing a grand slam final to anyone but serena especially at wimbledon and especially considering that she knows this coul be one of her last few chances to win a slam. a victory would also even her and justine in the slam department.
