Hey! Just thought I'd let you all know how it went...

I played my first round match on Friday against someone named Aaron Ribchiksy, ranked #86. He had a good serve (when it went in, which wasn't all too often) and he just ran everything down. Other than that, he didn't have much to hurt me with. However, this match was UGLY! We both were playing in waves of 2 or 3 games where we were on, and 2 or 3 where we couldn't put a ball in the court. I was down 2-4 in the second set, but I came back to win 6-3 6-4. Still, I wasn't at all happy with how I did.

My second round match today (Saturday) was against 8th seeded Chuck Cipollo, ranked #58. He had really heavy topspin shots that were tough to do anything with, as well as a pretty decent volley on the rare occasions he came in. His only weakness was that he was the slowest person I've ever played against. Even if I hit a terrible drop shot, he still couldn't get to it! The first set was a repeat of the 1st round, but I got through 6-4. In the second set, he started hitting the crap out of the ball, moving me from side to side. I wasn't doing much to help myself with the shots I was hitting, and the warning for racket abuse I got wasn't a benefit either  I lost the second set 6-1. In the third set, I started to serve and volley and chip and charge every chance I could. I was getting my medium-paced first serves in OK throughout the match, but my hard ones FINALLY started going on. I broke him at 4-4 and eventually won 6-4 1-6 6-4

My Quarterfinal was against the 2nd set, Matt Grabala, ranked #26. He doesn't really have a weakness other than the mental part of his game. He has a really big serve, and can open up the court with his groundstrokes very nicely. The last time we played, he beat me 6-2 6-0, so I was hoping to do a bit better. He broke me for a 2-0 lead in the 1st set, but we both were playing our best tennis after that. We both said after the match that neither us had ever played that well. I wasn't missing my first serves at all in the match, consistently hitting them in the 90s. and he was having trouble reading him. Unfortunately, he wasn't missing his either. We kept holding and he won the 1st set with 6-4 with the early break. The second set was basically the same. I was serving and volleying and getting to the net as often as I could, and he would blast balls from the baseline. I had a breakpoint when he was serving at 3-4, but he aced me! Needless to say, I was pissed lol. At 4-4 30-30, he got 2 netcord winners, which I wasn't happy about, and then he held his serve at love. I lost 4-6 4-6. Still, I wasn't discouraged at all. I played as well as I could, and far better than my first 2 matches. He just hit the right shots when it counted. He won his next match 6-0 6-0, and beat the top seed and 11th ranked player in the finals 6-2 6-2 to win the tournament as well, so it was nice to know that I have him his toughest match.

I realize that I still have a lot of stuff to work on (backhand backhand backhand lol), but I'm still happy with how the tournament went. I found a way to win when I wasn't playing my best, and I played a great quarters match Besides, I still have 2 more chances this summer to win these tournaments. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just getting started

Awesome! You made it to the qf.....now do you get a ranking?

I think you have to play 3 to get a ranking and there are 2 more within a 2 hr drive of me this summer, so im playing this. A lot of these tournaments have their matches start at 8:30 in the morning, which sucks if I draw a top player in the 1st round. I'm not really keen on driving 3-4 hours to these tournaments until I have a ranking thats good enough to ensure me a decent 1st round. Listening to me in the car early in the morning is like watching an episode of "The Osbournes." to begin with ;) It would be that much worse if I lost round 1 after that kind of a drive.
