Few people realized that the balls at wimbledon were slower than those used in the past. It has made quite a difference in my opinion. Look at the results--a couple of hundreths seconds more time is a huge sway in favor of a baseliner.

The same two player played in the RG and WB finals. How much difference could it have made?

First off did the women use the slow balls also? Secondly, they kept saying the courts were playing slower, you mean to tell me the commentators did not even know it was the balls. The slower balls were supposedly larger in diameter causing more aerodynamic drag. Were the balls larger?

The players seem to be saying that the balls fluff up more than in the past not that they're big or smaller just a different brand/type of ball.....and also they changed the mix for the grass ....think it made a big difference to the men tournament but no difference to the womens.

If this is true it explains a whole lot.

Isn't it ironic.

the court was slowed down and (apparantly) the balls made slower too, in order for Henman to have a chance against the likes of Ivanisevic, rafter (both no shows) and sampras(currenty in first week Slam form).

Now that was one heck of a bad move.

A faster playing court was probably Henman's best bet against Hewitt.

In fact one could actually accuse them of match fixing. LOL

are u guys totally not into tennis anymore? starting from this year or last year they use different balls in defferent courts. on clay, faster ones, on grass, slower ones, so there wouldnt be a HUGE different between the speed of the courts. STUPID MOVE!

Thanks neorules-I hadn't realized. Another factor of course was the unusually dry weather in week one. The courts wern't as slick as usual.
