View Full Version : Nice girls don't win Gran Slams

Well they say nice guys don't get anywhere but what about the girls. We seem to hear a lot about how Makiri is very popular with the other players on tour, how friendly she is etc. But maybe to be a Gran Slam champion you need to be nasty. Ruthless. That what the top women seem to have. The problem with that is I might stop supporting Makiri if she were that way. Would you prefer her to be a good loser or a bad winner?

On the issue of her current form, I think we should keep it in perspective. She has a coach now, which she desperately needed and if he can sort her out pschologically/get her tactics right on court she'll climb the rankings fast. It would be a lot worse were she suffering from a major injury. Blaming Igor is daft and I don't think the Stella McCartney/Vogue thing should matter.

My only concern is with Yuri who needs to be put in the background in a supporting role. He's not a coach as we've all painfully had to see.

Expect to see Maria seeded for the USO.

Kim C. was one exception. Hopefully, Makiri will be another one.

maybe you don't need to be "ruthless", i think you need motivation and passion. the williams sisters were poor and their father, with no previous tennis knowledge (only a book) managed to get to the top. ivanovic is one of the nicest players on tour, but she trained in a disused swimming pool and was forced to leave serbia cause of constant bombing. cause of their difficult upbringing the williams sisters and ivanovic play with passion, something that you don't always see in maria.

To win the slam player must be mentally strong, must be fighter...Thats why I think Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic never will win the slam...Honestly, I cant imagine Makiri winning the Grand Slam...Sorry... But I wish her all the best, of course ;)

I would prefer her to be a good loser. I don't support players because they are grand slam champions. I enjoy watching her play and she seems to be a good person. A lot of my favorites will probably never will grand slams. Doesn't matter much to me. I just wish that Makiri will use her potential and try her hardest in every match she plays.

well this has been a big topic after wimbledon on the daniela forums aswell, and i think its true, arragance is a need to win a slam, humble kind-loving girls on the tour i dont think are capable of winning slams but i dont know why, its just a need i hear about, u need to be arrogant and driven, but i dont understand why cant players be nice unsoar losers and well driven to succeed at a grand slam, haha it annoys me that kiri, daniela and ana are players who i dont think will be grand slam champs

also i think this was why clijsters was so popular and maybe even henin, nice humble girls, winning slams, yet still down to earth and dont get a big head about things

I think the problem with Makiri is that she's too nice and none of the other players fear her. Maybe she needs to develop a mean streak in her. What I mean is she should start pelting her opponents with her forehand/backhand when they come up to net, give them the middle finger everytime she strolls through the players lounge, say disparaging things about other players whether it's true or false, get a tattoo that says "Bitch with an Attitude", talk trash on the court (For example: "You suck!", "My outfit is wayyy better than that piece of crap you're wearing!?!", "You call that a backhand???", "Nice forehand/backhand... too bad it landed a mile out of the baseline", "Come getcha some bitch!", "I hope you got your running shoes on cuz I'm gonna make you run like a dog out there!!!", etc.) She should yell expletives to the chair umpire and shove the ballboys & ballgirls.:tape: Of course I'm just kidding around. Nicole Vaidisova has already done all that. What she really should do is play with an attitude on the court. Play mad and take it out on the opponent on the other side of the net.

Hehe :D! I promise you'll see such agressive player soon. Her name is Ula Radwańska, younger sister of Agnieszka. She's the best junior of 2007.

And Maria... Maybe is she really too soft on court...
