Having Serena win is not as nice a consolation prize as it was at Roland Garros. Venus is winning the US Open, and order will be re-established.

Sorry but this what make Venus' fans get mad at the player who defeats them. I think you pressure her a lot, and expects a lot either, that when she loses it, everyone gets mad at the person who defeated her and enter in a real depression. This is not supposed to be a mean answer, it's just an advice..

I don't quite understand what you're saying, Volcana. Anyway, let's hope Venus wins the up coming US Open.

The only player that can challenge Serena right now is MONICA. They seem to have incredible matches. As for Venus, she's the past.

interesting, with all the talk of Lindsay and Martina finishing #1 w/o GSs, Venus Williams is putting her self in that position even though she is #2 right now. Interesting, indeed. I hope Serena wins the US Open over Venus again. I believe Serena is on a winning streak of 17 straight matches?

let's wait till the final okay....
Maybe Kim is playing very good again by then and of course Martina and Lindsay are also back again.

Serena's on a 19 match winning streak. i don't think Venus has a realistic chance of ending the year No. 1. Serena has a 800 point lead over Venus. Venus is defending around 1800 points this summer, while Serena's only defending 1700 or so points for the rest of the year.

Serena will end the year No. 1 ;)

Well Seles could certainly do a better job than Venus at playing Serena. Is that 0-6 in sets this year??? I mean at least the Crapster can take a set from Serena.

Not on today's performance.

That said though for some reason I suspect (or is that hope ?) you will be right.

Bit cocky to suggest that there is an 'order' that is or is not being run smoothly.

Some would suggest that Venus is the prototype and Serena is the new and improved, and better player.

Venus will remain unbeaten untill the end of year, i honestly believe this will happen, i saw fire in venus's eyes today, she was truly disgisted with the way she played, she does not like being beaten weather it's lil sis or anybody, this is the same feeling i got form serena when she lost to cappy at wimbledon, she was tired of loosing and so is venus, she'll be back.

lol at monica competing with serena, monica was beaten easling by henin, who was demolished by venus, where does your logic come from that she stands a better chance against serena, some fans optimsim sometimes is quite freightning.

I always thought Serena was the better player more tecnically sound and has the better serve it was only a matter of time untill she became number one.Plus i have always thought that Serena likes tennis and Venus doesn't therefore Serena wants to win more!

LOL @ your optimism for the rest of the year - Venus will remain unbeaten ? Only if she doesn't play Serena again.

Damn it, Volcana! I was planning on watching that tournament! Now you've ruined it by giving away the ending!

Did you all catch that coincidence mentioned on TV? The postal code for Wimbledon is SW 19. What are the initials and current winning streak of the new Wimbledon champ?

What does Henin have to do with Seles vs Serena? Seles would trash Ells Callens which Serena couldn't do. Does this mean anything? No. Also Henin beat Serena this year too. We'll have to see when Monica and Serena meet and judging by their last matches, they were AWESOME tennis and very close. Time will tell. But judging by how Serena is dominating Venus and Capriati, then Monica might be the only one left to stop it. She definitely has the capabilities.

Y'all are applying too much reason to this. Venus is winning the US Open. My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with facts!

SW 19 OMG that is scary

Anyway, this final loss could serve as a wake up call to Venus and make her more determined than ever to beat Serena. Hopefully.

I know one thing, Venus HAS to beat Serena the next time they play otherwise this rivalry is dead.

So I hope Venus wins too :)

Whoever plays better on the day will win it. I hope Serena does but i dont care coz Venus needs to break her Slam drought.

To quote Elena Dementieva,"Richard will decide." ;)

Seriously though, Venus will definitely win the US Open because it's her turn. Serena's already won 2 this year, so it's Venus' turn to win one. Imagine Venus having to finish the year slam-less. It just won't happen(unless Martina or Monica get in the way!;))

Venus is playing Serena as she plays the rest of the field (Big Sister Mistake) she defends and then pounces! Since this style is so effective against the rest of the tour, there is little incentive to change it. So I do not believe that as much as I want Venus to win (I always want her to win!) she can cope with an in form Serena.
Shoulder problems may interfere with her big serve and her extraordinary first serve is no problem to Serena who will attack it and put her on the defensive.
To beat Serena she has to go back to the drawing boards and nobody does that for a sister. Maybe she will stumble on something in practice.

venus might or might not win... depends on how she plays... but she has got to be fired up... so maybe she'll bring something better onto court this time...

SW19? Eerie...

I agree with all the Williams fans. I think Venus should win the open. It's about time. If that was anybody else yesterday, Venus would've been on fire. I think she softened up a little bit on her younger sister because she felt bad about beating her all the time.

Volcano, you are too funny.

If you guys saw the look on vee's face after the match you know she is going on a mission. And nothing is going to stop her...not even lil sis. I hope she wins the US Open though. She's my no. 1 gal.

Diamond, you saw it in the first set. They both started out out of sorts, be gradually Serena turned into her old fist-pumping self. Whereas VEnus, who never changes expression or has negative body language, changed expression alot and except for the slumped shoulders, she has Jelena Dokic body language. Every time she made an error her whole body reacted.

I read a quote from Serena that she'd had to figure out how she and Venus could be two seperate people, and that Venus hadn't entirely figured that out yet. To my mind, that's what showed on court. There's a chink in Venus's fabulous emotional control. Venus winning without her focus and emotional control is like Serena winning without her serve. It's possible, but against elite competition, it's not likely.

Anyone who thinks sports in 90% mental would LOVE the WTA.

The difference between Monica last summer when she beat Serena and had that one close Canadian Open match with her is that Monica was in the shape of her life then (moving extremely well, to the point where it was not a liability anymore) and Monica now is not in as great shape, and is moving just as slow as she did before last summer. Also, Serena now is such a better player, I would guess Monica would unfortunately loose in straight sets to Serena  (coming from a Monica fan)

Does nobody think that Martina has a chance if she gets back in time?? It would be hard for her to beat them after being of the tour but i think she has as realistic a chance as any other top 10 player.

I think if Serena plays the way she did against Mauresmo then she will win vitrually every tournament she plays this year. On a good day, 0.1% of the tour will be able to beat her this year. On a bad day, maybe 5% will have a chance. I hope neither wins the US Open though, I hope Martina can win it.

Sorry, but Williams saying that Venus will win US Open doesn't meant that she will win it...

Serena is still active (just remembering) and she wants to win there too..
