Yesterday I read some part in Monica's book ''From fear to Victory"
and I suddenly realized what a big help Martina has been for Monica and that she really helped Monica to come back on the tour AND get her no.1 ranking back. Martina is a legend and after reading that (and her quote today that only Monica sometimes has the same powers as Venus and Serena) I respect this lady even more.

Go Martina!

Nice to hear that Martina was so supportive of Monica...they have an ad on TV lately that shows various athletes who have strugged to become "champions" and the obstacles they had to overcome and one of them was Martina..who had to leave her native Czech then because of her declaration of being a lesbian lost advertisement endorsements..lost fans because of her sexual choice, and her popularity as a tennis player suffered because of it....but through it all.....she has emerged a true champion!!:D

tomlovesmonica do you have old tennismagazines? you should read the one from august 93, interview with brenda schultz, very interesting!

According to Brenda (or rather, Irma), Martina told Brenda that Monica was responsible for her stabbing b/c she was unpopular and such a drama queen. It's amazing what lies Martina-haters will make up just to make her look bad. If Martina had made comments like that, it would have been all over the news. And no doubt, Monica would not have spoken to her again.

Martina realized the error of her ways with the vote against the ranking freeze. She was the first to condemn the German court's decision to give Parsche a suspended sentence in 1993 and if Martina had been pretentious or dishonest, Monica would not have been friends with her.

Some people need to give it a rest and keep their hatred to themselves.

I make nothing up, it's standing in that magazine, that's not my fault!

Jul 6th, 2002, 06:13 PM
That's why you're the only one who's heard about it...

Jul 6th, 2002, 06:15 PM
Well yeah I have tennismagazine, but not that old one. ANd I really do not believe all those rumors and Martina would never say something like that. I suggest y'all read Monica's book: it gives such a complete view of the life of a pro-tennisplayer.

Zummi, that rumor is also mentioned in Monica's book somewhere and Monica said it really bothered her that the press came up with these horrible stories. It's not Branda or Martina who started this rumor.

monica's book is not in print anymore, I had it in my hands in the shop but I read a few lines and was not happy about it that time so I thought I can better not buy it right now!

I had heard Evert made the "drama queen" crack, but it was to the effect that Monica stayed out too long because she was a "drama queen." Rumors, rumors. Martina was extremely kind to Monica and did help a great deal to bring her back, but only after she had retired. Betsy Nagelsen I think was the most important figure for Monica at the time.
