They're both Californians (born and raised)

They both hit the ball hard off both wings

They're both relentless baseline hitters

They both wore cool white visors

They both had a cool, reserved demeanor on court (emotionless)

They both are the *only* women to win Olympic gold medals in singles and doubles (at the same Olympics)

And today Venus will attempt to join her (the FIRST American woman to win 3 consecutive Wimbledon titles) as the LATEST American woman to win 3 consecutive Wimbledon titles.

Good luck Venus! :wavey:

And let's remember the American queen who reigned supreme all those years ago :)

as soon as I saw the topic I thought of Helen Wills. :)

Go Vee! Hopefully Venus can equal her record of 7 Wimbledons (or was it 8?).

Hi Moon I'm glad others have seen the similarities too :) Helen won 8 championships btw.

Anyway it's a SHAME Venus couldn't 3 peat I really wanted her to win :( But she will get many chances yet in the future :)

WR... yes Helen wore a visor (or similar cap) I don't know what it was called those days.

Congrats to Serena!

Funnily enough, I've heard the comparison between Helen Wills & Lindsay Davenport made before. One reason why they are probably even more alike is that Helen Wills, like Lindsay, was not well-known for her mobility. Helen had a one-handed backhand.

Btw, does Venus consider herself Californian or Floridian? Hasn't she lived in Florida for the greater part of her life so far?

That came to my mind also Zummi. Helen's lack of mobility and Venus' speed about the court. But I guess that's an exception :p

Interesting question about Venus. I'm not sure either  Does anyone know?
