View Full Version : What do you like most about The Championships: Wimbledon?

Wimbledon is by far my favorite grand slam. It is the elite of the elite. If I were a tennis player and only won one grand slam, I'd want it to be Wimbledon. Particularly, I love the tradition of the tournament. No play on the middle Sunday, the all white attire, the ivy on the buildings. Its so regal and traditional. Also...Wimbledon isn't commerical. You don't see advertisements all over the place on the boards behind the players the way you do other slams and tournaments. The only advertisement I believe you may see is the Rolex advertisement on the scoreboard on Centre Court. It is truly the crowned jewel of tennis in my opinion and certainly lives up to its billing as the most "grand" grand slam.

I just started following tennis this year but I've been watching Wimbledon every year for the past maybe 7 or 8 years. It was always a fun part of summer, I'd go to tennis camp and during our breaks when it was too hot to play outside, we'd go in watch Wimbledon. It will always be my sentimental favourite. I love this time of year, after the worst (clay), we get the best (grass).

Also, my favourites usually do well on grass so maybe I like it because of that as well. Roddick, Gasquet, Sharapova, and Serena are all great grass courters.

Everything I like the most about tennis (volleys, serving & volleying, slices, chipping and charging, etc) is emphasized the best and most on grass. Mauresmo and Henin only serve and volley two to three weeks per year, and it's just lovely to see on both of their behalves. The low chips and slices n' dices, seeing the ball float over the court, just flying really, it's just beautiful to see.

Also, Wimbledon just has the best matches out of any grand slam. That's just fact. I don't give a damn about tradition, but there is definitely a certain mystique Wimbledon has that most people love. Also, who doesn't love the strawberries served at the actual place? :hearts:

Low quality of tennis
R U kidding grass court tennis is the best quality tennis much better than clay were the long rallies produce heaps of erros. On grass women are at their best hitting heaps of winners and being aggressive.

I really don't know, except that it has a magical, traditional aura to it that should get any tennis fan's heart pumping.
Plus, it churns out great womens matches, year after year.

The tradition, the prestige, the excitement, the desire, the white. It's all good.
And I love the zero sponsors, makes it so classy. It really stands out from the sport, most friends of mine have no problem watching wimbledon, and it's by far the most talked about grand slam.

OH MY GOD!! WHEN DID SHE DIE?!!

Wait, according to Wikipedia she is still alive. She did voluntarily give up the style of Royal Highness in 2002. But, I haven't found one article mentioning she died.

She separated from her husband and leads a non-royal life now. She doesn't go to Wimbledon because a few years back they refused to allow her to bring a party of handicapped children to the tournament.

I will always remember me as a little girl, pretending to be serving at Match Point for the Wimbledon Championship.

It's magical!

Yeah, 1992 I think. Brought the princes too.

I love Wimby, probably because it's the one I remember most as a kid. Going there during my teens was probably the best times I had in my youth. We had so much fun.
But there's a lot about Wimby which annoys me...I wish it wasn't quite so stuffy and snobby....the organisers really are stuck up their own arses ;) their treatment at the ex- Duchess of Kent for example  I'm AMAZED they now have equal prize money. They still treat the women's tour like poop though.
