Here is my predictions from the QF:

Quarterfinals - Henin, Serena, Jankovic, Chakvetadze, Ivanovic, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova, Sharapova

Semifinals - Serena, Jankovic, Mauresmo, Sharapova

Finals - Serena, Mauresmo

Champion - Serena.

Justine is playing the best tennis on the tour at the moment but Serena will find a way to outwork Justine in the QF.

i'm suprised by your confidence in mauresmo. i don't even have her in the quarters. ditto kuznetsova. and, the way she's playing right now, justine will beat serena.

Kuznetsova path to the 4th round is not that difficult and her 4th round match against Golovin,Dementieva,or Dechy can be troublesome but she will pull through. I think that Amelie has found her grass court game. My only question is will Amelie choke. Justine-Serena match was hard to predict but I believe Serena will perform at Wimby just like she did at AO. Justine is playing the best tennis of anyone on the WTA tour though.

wWhy not Martina in Quarter finals?the Players say that the grass is slower than the other years, it is beneficial for the play has Martina. Thus one can espèrer found at least into 1/4

Well lets see....I think the outcome of the lower bracket is based on Sharapova/Williams matchup.

Chahkvetadze just beat Jankovic in the finals this week, could do wonders for confidence going into Wimbledon.

But if Venus gets passed Sharapova which I think she will I honestly believe there will be an all Williams Final.

Hingis 44,
Question about Martina is her hip fully recovered. And, I got her going out in round 3 against Bammer who is having a career year.

Callystarr,
I honestly believe that Venus will make the semis if she can beat Maria. I just do not believe it right now. Hopefully, Chaki can carry that confidence on the big stage of Wimbledon and do not freeze up like she did in RG against Sharapova.

I am foreseeing a Serena/Mauresmo final as well.
I like Venus over Maria simply because I think Venus will punish Maria's poor service games. However, this could be more wishful thinking than a reality. Either way, I see Mauresmo defeating Maria or Venus in the semifinals with Serena holding up the trophy.

I don't usually do previews/predictions because my inflated ego can't handle the ridicule when said predictions fail miserably, but since I just posted this at Tignor's blog I might as well post it here. Added some stuff here and there.

First quarter: Serena Williams didn't play Wimbledon last year and didn't play any grasscourt warmups. Tough to say if the 4 matches before the QF will be enough for her to get used to the grass again and fine tune her game (not that her troglodytic game needs much in the way of fine tuning). Like Tignor, I don't think it will, though Wertheim seems to think otherwise. Henin.

Second quarter: Jankovic seems mentally spent, but autopilot should be enough to get her through her early round matches. Hingis will crash out early. Jankovic is a bad matchup for Safarova, and Peer is irrelevant on grass. QF Chakvetadze vs Jankovic, edge to Jankovic, who is slightly more powerful and athletic. Jankovic.

Third quarter: Vaidisova is not a factor on grass - at all. She has no idea how to move in it, and can't handle the low bounce. Her match against Henin in Eastbourne was pure comedy. Petrova still hasn't got her confidence and her game fully back, even if her "injuries" are mostly gamesmanship/excuse making. She'd have won a Slam by now if there was a Slam played on fast indoors, but everywhere else her chances seem to diminish with each passing month. Ivanovic vs Mauresmo is a tough call. Ivanovic has got a huge, rather unrefined game that works only on occasion, but more frequently as of late. Mauresmo beat her handily last year, but that was perhaps Mauresmo's finest, steadiest performance of the whole tournament - and it will probably take nothing less than that this year as well. It all depends on who plays well and who plays crap on that day. Ivanovic.

Fourth quarter: Venus Williams would have to play godawful to lose against Sharapova. She moves much faster, serves bigger and hits harder. Venus will eventually self-destruct; I'm just not sure in which round she'll get around to doing it. My preview assumes she won't. She may have been awful in her losses at Miami and Amelia Island, but against Jankovic in RG she actually played well in the first two sets. Dementieva is done, Golovin is coming back from a long injury break, Safina plays OK on grass but the Williams sisters are the worst possible matchups for her, as they are for Sharapova. Kuznetsova is suffering the effects of overplaying (another one who tried to play catchup to Jankovic's relentless hogging). She quickly bounces back even from the worst losses, but she may be next to done for this season. Venus Williams.

SF Henin, Venus Williams (I mean, if she gets this far, it's because she's fully on her game)

Winner Henin

Overall though I don't think Wimbledon will go as by the book as RG did. Grass makes for wackier results and upsets are more likely. Still, there were very few upset shockers at Birmingham, Eastbourne and Rosmalen this year, so who knows.

I hate making predictions because I have trouble betting against my faves and betting in favor of the ones I hate.

Quarter 1:
Justine Henin def. Bondarenko 4th round. No one here to trouble Henin and Bondarenko should win from all the other scrubs near her side of the draw. Vinci is overrated on grass, grass trolls Schnyder/Pin/Svazay? Barely pro level Birnerova?

Serena Williams def. Hantuchova 4th round. Hantuchova is never a slam (or any title for that matter aside from IW) contender but usually lives up to her seeding in the slams. The journeywomen, fat slump and the Brit won't stop her. Serena will most likely start off rusty and I doubt the two Aussies who should win their early rounds will trouble her. Alicia and Sam seemed to have a good grass reputation yet they managed to lose to grass clowns King and Vaidisova. Enough serves to win a handful of games but no strokes to win the match.

Serena Williams def. Justine Henin. I don't think anyone returns Serena's serve as well as Justine can, but I'm afraid her own inconsistent serving will let her down and Serena will get many free points off her own serve that should edge her through in a close threesetter despite Justine winning more points off the ground.

Quarter 2: Jankovic def. Bartoli. I'm a bit worried about the leg and Jankovics fitness at the moment but I think Lucie will be too erratic. Bartoli has superior shotmaking than all of her opponents in her draw and should be confident enough to beat Peer or Tanasugarn in the fourth round. Jankovic wins nine times out of ten against slow second tier powerbabes unless she's injured. Don't think this will be an exception.
Chakvetadze def. Hingis. Martina should be able to handle the scrubs before meeting Anna C if she's healthy. If she can reach a slam QF after a three year layoff then she should be able to do it here as well. Anna C has the Rosmalen curse against her but luckily also sucky opponents. Krajicek should give her a good fight but that's about it. I remember seeing a set between Anna C and Hingis at the Rogers cup last year and Anna C was dominating Hingis for many points until she had to retire. Having seen her play on grass, this should be a no brainer.

Jankovic def. Anna C. Jankovic will be spent but should win in a dramatic threesetter. At least she won't play doubles since Li isn't playing. Anna C has never been past the QF before.

Quarter 3: Ivanovic def. Petrova. If Nadia was confident she should win but she isn't and who's to say she won't crash out early against someone like Shvedova.
I've been playing it safe so it's time for an upset. Azarenka over Vaidisova and Amelie def. Azarenka.
Amelie def. Ivanovic. Ana's serve will let her down and it's harder to overpower Amelie here. And Ana is tired.

Quarter 4: Tamira Paszek def. Radwanska. Kuzzie hasn't played in awhile and has never impressed me on grass despite her Eastbourne win. I expect her to selfdestruct against Aga. It's time for Tamira to make her breakthrough slam run. Golovin returning from injury and I don't believe in Elena D.
Venus Williams def. Safina. I saw Dinara play last week. She's not powerful or fast enough to beat Venus and same goes for Peng. Sharapova def. Sugyiama.
Sharapova def. Venus. More feeling than logic as Venus was already playing relatively good grass tennis at RG and Maria hasn't stopped struggling.
Sharapova def. Paszek. Experience def. inexperience.

Serena def. Jankovic (or anyone that is left if she has beaten Henin)
Amelie def. Sharapova. Maria ain't winning with that serve.

Serena def. Amelie

God I hope I'm way off. I hope it's going to be much more unpredictable.

Justine/Serena vs Mauresmo/Venus

Serena is the favorite against Justine, but she's been really unpredictable lately. She'd be on a mission, but she has shown that this year that her rhythm could be completely off. So basically, it'd largely depend on how she comes out.

Same thing when it comes to Venus. She had very good patches in RG, so I'm assuming that she's getting her game together. She's the dark horse in this tourney. You never know how she'll show up. If she hits form, should make it to the semi and meet Mauresmo, and it'd be a tight match.

I don't expect Masha to make it to the final. If she makes it past Venus, she'll fall to Mauresmo. I can't see her winning big in Wimb when she's still struggling with her serve.

I hate making predictions because I have trouble betting against my faves and betting in favor of the ones I hate.

I'm almost the opposite. My predictions tend to be all "LiEk, ZOMG11!!!!!1!! All my faves are going to suck!", and worst case scenarions "LiEk, ZOMG1!!!1!!! The final is going to be Henin d. Kuznetsova again!". There are limits though. An all-Williams final falls into the "too awful to contemplate" category, even though it may end up being fun in a trainwreck-ish kind of way.

Serena Williams def. Justine Henin. I don't think anyone returns Serena's serve as well as Justine can, but I'm afraid her own inconsistent serving will let her down and Serena will get many free points off her own serve that should edge her through in a close threesetter despite Justine winning more points off the ground.

The deciding factor in women's matches rarely is the serve, but at last year's Wimbledon and USO finals it was, at least to an extent, so maybe you're right on this one. But Henin's serve seemed more dependable than the usual at Eastbourne. Or maybe she wasn't going for as much with her 1st serve as she usually does (on clay, she always tries to win the point outright with it).

I've been playing it safe so it's time for an upset. Azarenka over Vaidisova

That's a 40-60. Grass is Azarenka's best chance for a win, of course, but she may choke it away - against someone who serves like Vaidisova lapses can be fatal. But I'll add that Knapp will give Vaidisova hell right on the 1R.

And Ana is tired.

She is, and I didn't factor that in. But she should hit through her early round opponents without breaking a sweat.

Kuzzie hasn't played in awhile and has never impressed me on grass despite her Eastbourne win. I expect her to selfdestruct against Aga.

Word on the street is that Kuznetsova may be much more ready for this than we think.

I put her in my whirlpool team and picked her in other prediction games as well. I wanted to pick Venus too but as I said before, I simply can't pick players I dislike even in games. I wonder why you picked her though since you dislike her and think she's absolutely useless. It's like me picking Garbin.

I wanted to pick Venus too but as I said before, I simply can't pick players I dislike even in games.

I used to be like that. I played the Tennis-Pool.com game last year and screwed myself bigtime by refusing to pick Hingis out of principle. Now I'm actually more likely to pick players I hate than players I like; when said players I hate win, I can always say "At least I'll get a good ranking on the online games". As for players I like, I'm yet to pick Nikki V. for my Tennis-Pool.com team this year, for instance.

I wonder why you picked her though since you dislike her and think she's absolutely useless. It's like me picking Garbin.

I looked at the draw and I found her to be the only category D player I was almost positive would win at least two matches. Strictly objective.

some of the predictions were way off......

venus is always a wild one ...if she zones in during wimbledon then she is a certainty
