View Full Version : Can you be a diva at #412 in the rankings?

OK, it's not really diva-like behaviour, but I wasn't impressed at Eastbourne with Elena Baltacha's impatient gestures to get the ballkids to roll the ball to the umpire's side of the court to hand her balls for serving because she doesn't accept them from the other side of the court. She looked really pissed off when the ballgirls couldn't get the hang of this (having been trained totally differently I expect!). I couldn't help feeling that when you have a Top 10 ranking Elena then you can start with that sort of thing. I wanted one of the ballkids to say 'you're not even Top 400 at the moment, take the balls from this f***ing side'.

Other than that I love Baltacha by the way - I'm not Baltacha-bashing - I've always thought she has Top 100 game and I really hope she can make the most of the coming months as she heads in the right direction.

It probably just a habit or superstition or something. Ive seen other players do it too, but they were more higher ranked

I don't think any ranking merits that kind of behavior.

 That's hilarious!!

The behaviour does not match the ranking.

all the ballkids get treated like this - I dont understand why anyone would want to be one - at Nottingham and Birmingham the players treated them like dirt - its awful

We do need some ballkids with attitude - you'd think judging by the kids on the streets I see in the UK you'd get some! - "GET YOUR OWN F***ING TOWEL BITCH!", "AM I, LIKE, BOTHERED, THAT YOU IS NOT HAPPY WITH THAT BALL - IT'S ROUND AND YELLOW, JUST, LIKE, USE IT OR LOSE IT'.

She must be very superstitious and not in a good mood at that moment. I remember watching Elena Dementieva in a match in L.A. and she would only take balls from one of the ball kids. She would never even look at the other one. Also Fernando Gonzalez on the mens side will only take balls from ballgirls, not ballboys.

As long as you're consistent, you can be a diva at any ranking.

Turning into a diva after a big win, is worse IMO. ;)

Jankovic shouted at the ballkids during Sydney this year ;) I liked it because she was very fiery and fiesty.

 :rolls:

That would be great if they did that, would make my day. Players all do their own thing, if it works for them, maybe they should just keep doing it

Shes back up to 270 now so is it acceptable there ?

Suprised really, wouldn't have thought Bally would be too used to ball kids. All though the ones in eastbourne did look retarded, took so long. You'll notice the difference in wimbledon where you don't even notice the ball kids.

If I were the tournament organiser I would have draged the b*tch by her hair, smash a pie in her face and then subject her to public caning on court. How dare she treat the poor ballkids like that, that arrogant creep! :awww:
