I mean.., for years now...
the finalist in the Australian Open is the same finalist in the Wimbledon!!!

and we are in the same situation like in the FO...
where there is a great chance of an upset in the 4R..

Schnyder vs Sharapova
and
Williams vs Sharapova

once again... I think that it will be a very interesting match....

but hopefully...
I think that it is time for Venus to break that AO finalist= Wimbledon finalist
"tradition"
and win Wimbledon herself, playing Serena in the Finals...

Who says it's going to even happen?
Venus likely plays Safina in the third round and Safina as you can see from today's match is no hack on grass.

theres no way Safina is gonna rock at this years Wimbledon...
no way shes gonna go through Venus...

i mean.. its not like Jelena is an aggressive type of player the way Venus is...

It's DINARA Safina not Jelena...

Anyways, if Venus gets by Safina, I think Sharapova will beat her.

The organizers must truly believe that Sharapova can get by this "declining" Venus Williams in the 4th round, or they wouldn't dare have their cupcake girl face Venus before the semis or finals.

safina will choke against Venus.
Sharapova by far plays much better on clay than on grass. And Venus is yet to prove whether she's back in her top form in a consistent manner this year.

Maria has won Wimbledon (grass)...and dosn't play well on clay (being tall it's difficult to move)..

agree...
but Maria being taller than Dinara can move aswell as Dinara...
and tall people has greater reach...

but hasnt Venus already proven that
she's back consistently...
i mean...
all her loses, exect to the unbelievable Tati..
were are 3rd sets...
and all against top players...
isnt that consistency enought?

Kuzzie went on to beat Henin in Berlin.
Sharapova n Jankovic to the semis in FO...

winning maybe a different thing...
but hanging with them stroke by stroke is another...
and how the draw Gods open up the path for her...

Everyone is talking about Safina but the only person who I can see taking Venus out is Sharapova. I doubt Venus will lose that early. Venus will probably get out there and allow Safina to win a set, but I can still see her winning if she keeps her errors down. It's interesting that Venus and Dinara have never played.

Sharapova is the real test for Venus.

Are you serious?

Grass is Maria's best surface and I'm sure Maria herself will agree that clay is her WORSE surface. Sharapova is a horrible clay court player. She only got by at the French due to her determination and no one on this board can disagree with me on that.

Let's see how Venus plays at Wimbledon. Many of us are assuming she'll rock on grass, and there's ample possibility of that, but she hasn't shown she can beat top players yet this year. Dinara is someone she could beat, but also is an inconsistent player she could lose to if she's not playing well. If Venus can gain some momentum, she could very well take on and beat Maria in the 4R.

If Vee plays well she will ebat Dinara in 2 sets, 1st by 1 break and the second 6-3/2 by 2 breaks. Then she will ebat Maria in 3 sets. Then she will ebat Momo in three thrillers and go on to contest the final aginst her little sis. If she plays like SH**E, she''l scrape past Safina in 2 needlessly tight sets and be beaten by masha in 3 close sets.

Yet last year people were saying the same thing about Venus when it came to playing Jelena Jankovic in the third round.
Myskina would have been her first test at that slam.
Suprise Suprise. She lost that match.

Now I've seen Lindsay make Safina look retarded on grass with just superior grass play.
I'm sure Venus can do the same the question is will she be focused enough that early in a slam to do so.

At RG, she was really focused in the first set and a bit against Harkleroad, then sort of crumbled. Harkleroad isn't good enough to capitalize on this but Safina will be. If Venus wants to win, she cant let anything distract her (including serve speed records).

Doing a Schnyder meaning losing after being in a winning position? Yeah, she can do it. She's done it already this year.

But she could also win. Sharapova's still not playing her sharpest tennis, and while Venus isn't either, Venus has a better chance of catching lightning in a bottle than Sharapova.

I don't think Safina has what it takes mentally to defeat Venus on grass. Venus feeds off negative body language that opponents send over, and Safina is NOTORIOUS for that.

Since Safina and Safin will likely make the third round and since they will likely be frustrated at times in those 3rd round matches against the best grass players of this generation, I would like to see them play at the same time on courts next to each other.

Nothing like seeing a brother and sister go down in flames in similar negative body language ways.
