I'd say..looking at the draw that the current power 5 have it. Either, and in this order of chances to win IMO:
1. Serena
2. Justine
3. Mauresmo
4. Sharapova
5. Venus.
All have a chance, I can't see anyone else really winning it. The likely winner will come from the Serena quarter final.

I think it will be a Jankovic - Sharapova final.

Serena or Justine. I can't say any more until I see them play a couple matches at Wimbledon.

All i know is, Maria is probably so relieved NOT to see Serena's name in her half.
Not that Venus is a great sight either!
But you gotta get at least one when both are healthy!

I thought I heard somewhere that Serena, Venus, Maria and Amelie are planning to show up with beach balls, plastic buckets and wearing skimpy bikinis. They will wrestle in the mud that is formed after the London showers work their way on the baselines. After their first round losses Martina and Lena D. will join them and the happy bunch is going to stroll the streets of London singing polkas and yodles. Justine already announced her regret that she won't be able to attend the street parties, as she has to win Wimbledon, but is sure to join in the fun next year!
So yeah, I guess things are settled and we'll have a new Wimbledon champion this year. :p :wavey:

I see two finalist - Serena from her half, and Venus from hers. This will be the resurgance, and the first Williams Final sence 2003! I actually think if they both get to the final- Venus has the upper hand in the match.

It's interesting what could happen and most of it depends on the Serena/Justine match.

If Serena wins that match, she will win Wimbledon.

If Justine wins that match, anyone else around that has proven themselves at Wimbledon, which include Mauresmo, Venus, Sharapova, and even Martina (if she can get herself to the semis) have a shot.

You mean Sharapova or Mauresmo.

Both of those players have been not in their best form this year, but from what I've seen in the warm-up tournies, they'll both be ready to make some noise.

Being a die hard Sharapova fan i would really like to say Maria but unfortunatly she is in 2nd place 1st place goes to Henin!

Very true words, Henin wants this so bad its the only slam she hasn't conquered!

Very true words, Henin wants this so bad its the only slam she hasn't conquered!well, this might be true. but unlike the clay, she has a number of other players with better grass court credentials and better grass court games that she does.

Here is her grass court record against the players who have actually won Wimbledon:

Venus: 2-0 Venus
Serena: 1-0 Serena
Mauresmo: 1-0 Momo
Maria: never played on grass
Hingis: never played on grass

She has either lost or not played against them. In other words, she has never beaten any of the other players in the draw who have won the event. She is 0-4 at Wimbledon against the other contenders

Let's look at how she has performed historically in Grand Slam play that is not clay against the other contenders.

Venus: 3-0 Venus
Serena: 2-0 Serena
Mauresmo: 3-0 Momo
Maria: 1-1 Tied
Hingis: 1-0 Hingis

She has only beaten Maria in a nonclay slam event; otherwise she is 1-10 against these same players.

So, it is not entirely in Justine's hands.

I don't see Venus reaching the final. I don't think she can beat Jankovic or Mauresmo.

JJ isn't in her half. Venus would have to beat Masha and Momo to get to the final...She COULD do it, we will see.

If Serena beats Henin, I'd say Serena wins the title. If Henin beats Serena, it's either Henin, Jankovic, Mauresmo, or Kuznetsova (I know, I'm biased).

Jankovic doesn't run into any major trouble until the semifinals, and Kuznetsova could take out Sharapova if Sharapova's serve is still M.I.A. Mauresmo has the game to go deep on grass, and she's played her way into form at Eastbourne. I think the bottom half finalist is very much up in the air, though. The top is pretty much between three players, and the bottom is between about five.

Why do people bother putting her in these polls, noone ever, ever votes for the poor lass. I'll tell you something for nothing, she has a heck of a better chance of actually lifting the title than Anna does.

I'd call Safarova major trouble.

Hingie

I'd call Safarova major trouble.

And i don't think Hingis will be a pushover.

If she's trained well during her time off and she's focussed, Hingis can make a real run here.

At least i hope she does. :D

I don't think Hingis is a lock to get past Anna. Nor is Jankovic any lock to get past Anna.

Jun 22nd, 2007, 11:36 PM
Hingis hasn't played in a while. She was vulnerable last year and she is twice as vulnerable this year. She could lose to anyone. However if she plays well like she did last year she could get far. But I can't see her getting past the fourth round either way.

KK...i dont really know who is gonna win...this is possibly the most competitiveness draw for a very very long time...and its exciting...i obviosuly want a Williams final and would rather Venus lived in the glory this time round...annd i think Venus is som1 who relies on confidence and momentum...its driven her many times...and confidence is what she will get at Wimby!!!

The best analysis I have read. Totally correct. Serena is a lock if she beats Justine.

If Justine wins the quarter-final then she would be favored, but could lose to Sharapova / Mauresmo.
