Why don´t we wait for this specualation until the quarters? Way to early and there are a lot of interesting matchups before the final. I´m much more curious about the possible Venus/Maria match and the Serena/Justine match. So we will see. I of course do hope for an Williams final but think that only Serena will reach the final and win the title.

No.

venus isn't consistant enough to ever reach a slam final again in her carrer.

serena won't be justine.

Jun 22nd, 2007, 05:29 PM
Probably not, but if it does happen then Serena will win. No way in hell is Venus going to beat Serena in a slam final again. Ever.

40-0
Jun 22nd, 2007, 05:44 PM
not really, only happens when both are 1 2 or top 5 at least.

For some reason I'm very confident when it comes to Venus Williams vs. Sharapova on grass.

serenafan08
Jun 22nd, 2007, 06:24 PM
It certainly could. Serena and Venus thrive on grass. I think Serena has the better chance to win it based on recent results, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Venus make another run like in '05. Serena is the more tenacious of the two; she will dig her teeth in and fight to the last ball. Serena will beat Justine if they play each other - Justine is robbed of time on grass. She won't be able to set up her shots like she does on clay. This should be an exciting Wimbledon! :bounce:

for venus its all about the 4th round match against sharapova. if she wins it shell probably have the confidence to reach the semis. and i like her chances against mauresmo who as i predicted will fail to defend her wimbledon crown. venus will be her safrova. once venus makes it to the semis of a gs she doesnt usuall play badly.

For some reason I'm very confident when it comes to Venus Williams vs. Sharapova on grass.

pova is not serving well. and venus just hit the fastest serve at the french. venus could take this - if she makes it.

otherwise, i can only dream of an all williams singles final.

Masha is slowly regaining her serve (compare Miami 07 with Birmingham 07 and you'll see the BIG difference), so Venus will have to work for the win.

Not likely. Venus is inconsistent and erratic, prone to excessive errors in any match, while Serena potentially has a tough match with Justine in the qtrs, where the outcome is iffy. The mine fields are plentiful.

I don't know what will happen. I know that it can happen but who knows for sure if it will. I wouldn't dare be so sure that it will happen, and some of you shouldn't be so sure that it won't.

I'm optimistic , I think the doubles will help both of them so

Vee was waning in 2003 too but doubles helped her get to the final, even if it was only 3 rounds  I think she'll do fine, and we all know about Serena

Let's just say that I think that's more likely than any 2 players from another country meeting in the finals

heytennis

Serena is a likely finalist but Venus would have to go through Safina, Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Mauresmo. It's not happening. Sharapova and Mauresmo have beaten Venus when she was playing much better than she is now.

MrSerenaWilliams
Jun 22nd, 2007, 09:03 PM
The thing about Venus which KILLS her on other surfaces is that she LOVES to hit flat, straight through the ball with little/no topspin.

On clay/indoors/hardcourts that's DEADLY (to a lesser extent indoors and HC, but still deadly), but on grass....on GRASS....ON GRASS ( ok ), on grass, it's what's won her those 3 titles, and she's never lost to Kuznetsova, Sharapova, or Mauresmo on grass.

Let's examine her grass losses since 2002 (her first loss this millenium)

2002: Serena (no one would have beaten Serena that day, she just wanted it so badly, and when Venus and Serena are both playing their best tennis, especially on grass, Serena's the only person that stands a chance)
2003: Serena (Vee was injured. If she didn't have that ab strain, I doubt that she would have lost)
2004: Sprem (we all know what happened, but Vee's form was still rather erratic)
2005:
2006: Jankovic (the beginning of the wrist injury troubles before surgery, and very erratic form as well)

One thing that's a commonality in 2004-2006 is the fact that she didn't play doubles, whereas in 2000-2003 (she went 27-2  during that stretch) she played doubles, and she only won the title 1/2 of the time, but doubles work wonders for her game (and her sisters) and I think if Venus can keep her confidence level up, I think she's a great shot (better than Amelie and Kuzy, but a little less than Maria) to get to the final.

and hopefully it will stay that way. If Venus wins it :yeah:, if Serena wins it :yeah: but i never want to see a all-Williams final again....those were the most annoying matches ever, and it looked like they both knew who was going to win it.

They will both reach the Quarterfinal but i think one of them won't make the final.

If Venus actually makes past Sharapova she has a good chances of going deep in the tournament possibly even the finals. But this year she just hasn't looked good enough to do that but she may surprise us at Wimbledon since Sharapova isn't quite at her best either.
Serena has a very good chance of reaching the final.

Its not impossible thats for sure, but I certainly hope not, all WS finals are shite, have always been shite and always will be shite, they normnally play crap and sometimes seems as if its predordained beforehand who will win, one or other of them in a final is great, both of them means a UE riddled borefest, not that we are not used to those anyways by now in finals..

I love how everyone mentions how erratic Venus is and dismisses her chances, but says nothing about the brilliant stretches of tennis she's also played this year. The truth is Venus has ALWAYS been an erratic player, it's all about how quickly she can get her game back together the times she does fall into errors. I'm backing Venus all the way, if she wins I'll know I stuck with her through thick and thin (I'm not just her fan when she's winning) an if she loses, she'll dust herself off and keep fighting until the next time.

Well, Venus was anything but consistent in 2005 but WON Wimbledon anyway. #12 seed.

And... Serena will dust Justine if they meet on grass, no question. (like she did in 2003)

Didn't Venus play mixed doubles in 2006 and get to the semi or final??
