let's go lucie.

she's the #25 seed, meaning she'll draw either

(1) henin
(2) sharapova
(3) jankovic
(4) mauresmo
(5) kuznetsova
(6) ivanovic
(7) s. williams
(8) chakvetadze

in the third round. i'm hoping for kuznetsova.

Jelena Jankovic SRB [3] vs. Anne Keothavong GBR [WC]
Meghann Shaughnessy USA vs. Jarmila Gajdosova SVK
Gisela Dulko ARG vs. Eleni Daniilidou GRE
Lucie Safarova CZE [25] vs. Zuzana Ondraskova CZE

Will be tough, but nothing else could have been expected. Daniilidou in 2nd round is somewhat scary. GL Lucka.

Not an easy draw. Good luck, Lucie! :yeah:

I kind of like this draw. I believe Lucie can reach at least QF if she plays well. Jankovic will be a test, but she is one of the two players I hoped for given the choices. (Ivanovic was the other).

i like this.

ondraskova should be easy.
daniilidou will be tough, but lucie is a better player than her.
and then jankovic. she's caused big upsets in grand slams this year...why not again?

Lucie wins 7-5 6-2. :) She gave me a little scare in the first set at 5-5 but managed to win it, then she was cruising. Looks like she will need to play a little bit better against Daniilidou (whom I can't see losing to Dulko) and avoid any kind of slow start.

Good solid start. 6 more. ;)

Daniilidou will be shaking with fear no doubt.

Solid win for Lucie. Glad she didn't get injured, it looked very slippery out there...:)

1 set all. :o
In first game of 2nd set Lucie slipped and injured her right knee (had tears in eyes), she got a treatment and tape on it. She could barely move after that. I was really scared, because her motion when she was falling on ground looked terribly, something like Mary Pierce in Linz. But luckily in third set Lucie started fighting and was break up before suspension due to rain. Now it's still raining.

i seriously don't think it's bothering her. she wasn't even icing it in the third set.

she'll be fine. finish off daniilidou and get ready for jankovic.

i'm watching it now. she's moving fine. don't worry so much. ;)

Nice! She has to keep it up in order to have a chance against Janković.

It's a pity Lucie lost that match. But still a very good performance by her and she has once again shown her potential. So chapeau, Miss Safarova!:)

Lucie was playing so well for a set & a half.. really forcing play.. then she lost her intensity & started making tons of UEs... Lucie.. cut down on those UEs & you will be in the top 10 for SURE!

Once again she loses a match she very well could have won. Disappointing, but once again she matches it with the best.

Work on her volleying, and she could be anything.

I'm gutted for Lucie. I like Jelena a lot, but I wanted Lucie to win... so damn close. How the 2nd set went, did she waste any lead?

it looked like lucie got a bit tired after that long service game of hers in the 2nd set. she did well to break back and take it to a tie breaker but from then on she just wasn't playing that well.

Lucie was up 5-4* where Jankovic served to stay in the match, but Jankovic held to 15.

At *3-3 in the second with Lucie serving, that game was 21 minuties long, with 11 deuces. Lucie won that game, but couldn't really use that momentum.

Oh and it was 3-3 in the TB at one stage and Lucie was three points away from victory down 4-5 in the TB.

Does that explain enough. :p

Thanks for that description of the second set. I'm traveling and can't believe I missed this match. I hope Daily Motion or someone puts it up, it sounds amazing.

I've been a huge Lucie fan since first seeing her play in the final of Gold Coast last January. Last year was frustrating, but this year has been so exciting. She's so close to a total breakthrough that you can taste it. When she's playing her best I don't think there's a more thrilling player right now.

Here's hoping Lucie throws some lightning bolts at the US Open and makes the deep run she's capable of making!
