SILVIA FARINA
RITA GRANDE
FRANCESCA SCHIAVONE
ADRIANA SERRA ZANETTI

Having already 3 great singles players in the team I had chosen Vinci instead of Adriana for strong double pair but I'm happy anyway.

FORZA ITALIA

OMG    Italians really want to be in the final four next fall. After convincing all their best players to play on Bologna's clay in 2 weeks time they have decided not to charge admission to the stadium in order to get full support. (Agreement between ITF and organizers, I wonder how much tricky italians have paid to ITF to allow it ;) )

It looks it's going to be a tie not to be forgotten...

Yes ! I wondered for years why the Italians let chances slip away to win matches due to Farina Grande and Co. not playing !

Now with Kim not playing and Silvia as top20 and the others as top50 players, they see a chance of winning it !!

Great team :)

Yes, as a Roberta fan it would be nice to see her play doubles, but it would be very unfair to leave out Adriana...while she isnt in the best of form she has been the shining light for the Italian Fed Cup team when no-one else would play, so it would be quite insulting to leave her off I guess.

Go Italy!

Roby is in the team now

Schiavone has withdrawn

Roby should be in the team anyway, she is way better at doubles then the rest of them put together

Silvia will play doubles with Roby

I figured Roby would be teamed with either Rita or Silvia so I suppose Barrazutti went with the rankings and chose the higher ranked Silvia (#30 vs. #42). Either partner is fine with me - I love them both! :hearts:

Besides I don't think it will matter one way or the other.

The article says that the italian captain tested the team Sivia / Roby but nothing has been decided.

It says too that the belgium captain apparently has chosen Courtois as her n.2 singles player
If he does that italians are 2-0 already ;)

Any choice for Belgium's n.2 player is a weak option but I think young Elke would be better for her team than semi-retired Laurence.

it's strange that players practise with their own coaches...usually in Fed Cup they practise all together and coaches are banned.

spiceboy
Jul 17th, 2002, 09:14 PM
There's no universal rule for coaches during preparation for Fed Cup. It's up to the team's rules :wavey:

WOW! Originally, I thought for Sure that Italy would win 5-0 or 4-1, but with Schiavone leaving, it will be much closer. The tie probably revolves around how Els performs. Oh and Isn't Farina Elia 14 not 30? Serra Zanetti is 48 as well.
