Bottom line Davenport is 2-9 versus the Sisters the past two years. She has lost the last 5 matches.

Hingis is 4-8 versus the sisters in just over 2 years. she has lost the last 5 meetings including all of their matchups this year.

I don't understand why people expect two players coming off injuries who have lost a combined 10 of their last meetings with the sisters to post a bigger challenge than healthy players who have beaten the sisters this year like Clijsters and Henin. Interestingly enough, of the healthy players Capriati is always touted as the biggest threat when she has lost the last 5 matches to Serena and has never beaten Venus.

People used to gripe that Venus and Serena didn't play enough matches. The sisters upped their schedule and are #1 and #2 in the World now people are unhappy.

Once upon a time people criticized the sisters for avoiding each other in tournaments and wished they would play the same tournaments more. Now they are playing the same tournaments and people can't stop talking about how awful it is.

Be careful what you wish for-- you just might get it. :wavey:

Hey RayNY- You beat me to the punch. I was going to post the exact same thread topic. I guess all the haters have to pin their hopes to something. But let Martina and Lindsay come back so that Venus and Serena can beat them down again.

Good post, Rayny. This should clear up a few minds.

I dont think as soon as martina and lindsay get back they will challenge the sisters, i dont think anybody in tennis would expect them to come out after such a long time out of the game and beat the 2 best players in the world at the minute, what we do expect is that they will at least test them and maybe take a set. Martina and Lindsay will probably only start to play there best tennis towrds the later end of this year, so dont expect to much

I think that people are HOPING that when Martina and Lindsay return, they will be able to challenge Venus and Serena. However, given their records against Venus and Serena, it will not happen.

What will happen is that Martina and Lindsay will rise in the rankings because of the system, but when they get to the semis, the story will be the same as before. Lindsay, if she doesn't improve on her fitness, will not be fast enough to hang with V and S. Martina will have a harder time competing with the other players before she gets to Venus and Serena.

Great Post Rayny :wavey:
Why put this pressure on Martina and Lindsay:confused:  ,
they really don't need it, they will have enough just trying to get back into the groove of playing tennis period after being away for so long...

I don't think anyone really expects them to beat the Williams only that they play some exciting match, the US Open match between Lindsay and Serena last year had me on the edge of my seat. Martina hasn't really had many good matches against them lately but usually her matche against the Williams sisters are fun to watch.

When will you people understand that just because someone isn't for the sisters (or has another favorite they like better) that doesn't necessarily make them a hater??? GROW UP!

irrespective of that its past, and it stays that way...im sure Hingis and Lindsay stand a much greater chance than those stats reveal, but i think even when they're back obviously it will take a while to get in to groove!

i hope they do...theres no reason they can match anyone! go lindsay and marti :)

Are Lindsay and Martina so much better than Jenn and Monica that they can realy be expected to mount a greater challenge?

I too look forward to the two of them coming back. I've enjoyed them playing the sisters and the contrast in style when Hingis plays. But I have to say I'm even more interested and anxious for them to come back now more than ever. Why? Because considering their records over the past couple years or year for that matter I'd expect a beat down perhaps of epoch proportions. Why? I am sick of the complaining and commentary that has made those two the WTA's designated saviors. And frankly I feel sorry for them being placed in such a position involuntarily. Please bring them back and I'd expect a real slam dunk similar to Hingis' Miami 6-4 6-0 vanquishing at the hands of Serena.

Some people forget that since the '01 Canadian Open Serena has lost just four times. This is a new player people. She is not the #1 player for nothing. This is not some fluke for them to be where they are. So bring it on. I hardly think Hingis a player who has lost in the first round at Wimbledon two times in three years would have been able to withstand the onslaught experienced by Mauresmo. They need to be teaching her how to serve first before trying to coax her to get in front of a freight train and get run over (in Navratilovas' words).

I think all these comments about the competition will only strengthen the resolve, determination and focus of Venus and Serena when they get on court against their opponents. To be the best you've got to beat the best.

SO BRING IT ON BABY AND LETS SEE

p.s. VENUS AND SERENA can only get better
