I got up early to see if the Williams double match was on, but it wasn't -- thanks to the rain.

CNN had Oracene on talking about the Sisters tour of Africa. She said that they will be in S. Africa from July 15-19, and then Ghana, and then Senegal. They will be there to raise awareness of the sport in Africa and to perhaps help develop Challenger events. None of the Williams has ever been to Africa, but Oracene said that it has always been a goal of her to return to her "roots". Oracene will leave for Africa in advance of her daughters to do some fact-finding and to begin preparations for whatever it is that the Sisters will do.

The Today Show had Chrissy on discussing the All-Williams final. I think she did a great job. She made an interesting point: that being that Serena is the #1 player in the world now, and Venus is seeded #1 so that means that BOTH girls are, in a sense, #1 and that Richard should be really proud. She also mentioned that the Sisters are "head and shoulders above the rest of the tour", but that she can't wait for Lindsay and Martina to return to challenge them.

It was a good morning!

Bright Red - thanx for the heads up. I'm sorry I missed it.

Question. What are Lindsay and Martina going to do to stop the Williams Sisters. The last time I checked Venus had a 9-10 record both Lindsay and Martina, with Venus winning most of the most recent matches and Serena has a 7-2 advantage over Davenport and the last time she played Hingis (whom she has a winning record agaisnt) she totally dominated her and bageled her in the second set. I think too many people are expecting way too much from Lindsay and Martina.

The media and other players are consciously trying to create the utterly FALSE impression that Lindsay and Hingis are going to seriously challenge V &S, and that if they were currently playing the rankings would be a lot different (Capriati is especially fond of this particular delusion). The TRUTH is that Venus's record against Davenport since June, 2000 is 7-1, and Venus's record against Hingis since returning to the WTA tour in May, 2000 after the first four months off for wrist injuries is 4-1 (which is to say that Hingis has only beaten Venus ONCE since 1999!). Coupled with Serena's marks of 7-2 against Lindsay, and 6-2 against Hingis over the same time span the sisters hold a commanding 24-6 or.800 record against these so-called "challengers" to their hegemony over the past 30 months--LOL See how insidious media disinformation is? Most people viewing these TV programs and reading newspapers no doubt think that Davenport and Hingis have been on an equal footing with the sisters on the court in the recent past, which is hardly the case. In fact, like so much biased coverage of Venus and Serena it's a blatant LIE...
