View Full Version : Johhny Mac... other matches were "predetermined"

I can't believe what Mac just said on ESPN radio's Mike and Mike show in the morning. When asked about the upcoming Williams' final, he said he believes that in the past he thought that some of their matches were predetermined. That is the exact word he used. In fairness to him... he did say many great things about the sisters now; among them that this is maybe one of the incredible feats all-time in the history of sport. He also said he is hoping that this time we will see an incredible match.

Love him or hate him...Johnny Mac shooting straight...which to me is refreshing in an interview world full of cliches.

Did he say he "thought" that in the past matches were pre-determined or did he say "matches in the past were pre-determined"?

There is a difference. Does he KNOW matches were pre-determined in the past or is he THINKING that they were?

I'm sick of this speculation. They are accusing the Williams family of match fixing . That's a pretty serious charge against anybody since it's illegal.

People ought to keep their mouths shut and let these girls play tennis.:fiery:

Hey essielewis...he said he "believed" which according to me means he thinks it has happened. He didn't elaborate or have any hard facts. I agree with you...these are pretty serious accusations coming from someone "inside" the tennis community. I could hardly believe my ears. But I still believe it's conjecture on Mac's part. One thing for sure...he's not afraid for political reasons to tell you what he thinks. For example...Everett also keeps bringing it up but always says it's "others" who keep saying this when in fact she believes it as well but is a coward!

Still hoping for a great match though!:wavey:

The matches are not fixed, they both have similar games that is why they have all the errors. Serena and Jen have very similar games and look at all the errors they have when they play each other.

OOOOhhh it is just killing the tennis establishment that these two beautiful, powerful, independent black women are taking over the tennis world and excluding the tennis likes of John McEnroe. I think it just reeks of jealousy. Venus and Serena both winning Grand Slams and being the top 2 players in the world. Something that John and his brother Patrick or Chris Everet and her sister could never accomplish. They are trying everthing to tarnish and discredit Venus and Serena's accomplishments. Shame on them, shame on them all.

thank you, supremeross! We never heard this crap when Venus and Serena were not winning. First it was...They are all hype....Now that the Sisters have proven all the a-holes wrong, it is now boring that they are the dominate forces in women's tennis.....They need to give someone a chance to win....LOL!!!!!

Right on Amanda. Now it's poor little other players. Venus and Serena are too strong, too fast. Give someone else a chance to win. When did pro tennis become a charity organization?

When were they not winning? ;) People have said crap like this for years, in fact I remember someone saying Richard even planned the score in their first professional match against each other. It's just louder crap now.

Hey, I believe John McEnroe was free-basing Cocaine during his playing days. I believe he would have won more Wimbledon's if he was not abusing all types of drugs.

John McEnroe frequently compliments Venus and Serena. He gives them many praises. It's not like he trashes them in every sentence he utters. I don't understand why the Williams fans are upset.

John's an idiot. He figures that he can't deny their accomplishments so he finds a way to throw dirt on their accomplishments. Shame on John.

Ms. Lively - Williams fans are upset because John McEnroe accuses Venus and Serena of being criminals. Match-fixing is ILLEGAL. Both theft and fraud statutes come into play.

Any great things that MacEnroe said about the sisters seem a bit pointless after insinuating match fixing :(.

It's a shame that they give the man so much opportunity to say things like that - it hardly improves the sisters' image to those people who don't follow tennis as closely. He has a great opportunity to set things straight because people respect him as a great champion ... instead he choses to add fuel to the fire .

I don't even like her, but the woman's name is EVERT...she's been around a while, shouldn't be that hard to spell it right.

Joneg2: You just committed the sin you objected to when you stated about Chrissy that "she believes it". You should have stated that you believe Chrissy believes it because unless you can show hard facts that prove that Chrissy has said as much, then you are putting words in her mouth or thoughts in her head.

I heard that same interview. Mac stated that as a definite; that matches were fixed. I think he can be sued for saying something like that without having to prove it. Its called"liabel", correct?

Really, Mac maybe a straight shooter, so to speak, but he spouted opinion and passed it off as fact, ESPN simply gave him an audience. What sort of journalism is that? They did not even bother to ask him how he, of all people had this insider info? Of course they did not want to know.

A thought occurs, "Mac must have bugged the Williams residence/hotel to have such intimate knowledge about their "match fixing" Isn't that illegal?

Or perhaps Mac is telepathic. If so, I hope he is getting this thought...#@X#%@&hole.

Hi Bella...fair enough...I stand corrected. Also about misspelling Chrissy's name. I think it was directed at me but someone else got angry. I don't mind being corrected.

I am glad I posted this thread since I think that tennis fans want to know what the establishment is thinking and saying... and Johhny Mac is a big part of it.

Once again... looking forward to great match tomorrow! Enjoy all.:wavey:

Tennis4life: If he said it as fact and not opinion, then it would be libel if he is a journalist. It would be slander if he isn't a journalist.

I don't see him as a journalist. Whether or not sports figures doing commentary qualify as journalists is a matter of opinion and, in this case, would become a matter of law. Are you sure he didn't say "I think" when he referred to it? Anyway, in a court case, a defendant would bring in the cousin who allegedly gave an interview that said he was privy to statements about it. That would be a circus. I don't think it will ever go there.

Don't hate on Mac for telling the truth!!!!!
