Welcome to the thread to discuss all things Makiri in Eastbourne. Here`s the main draw:

(1)HENIN, Justine vs BYE
RADWANSKA, Agnieszka vs QUALIFIER
(WC)KEOTHAVONG, Anne vs QUALIFIER
STOSUR, Samantha vs (5)VAIDISOVA, Nicole

(4)DEMENTIEVA, Elena vs BYE
BARDINA, Vasilisa vs QUALIFIER
(WC)MOLIK, Alicia vs (WC)SOUTH, Melanie
GARBIN, Tathiana vs (8)BARTOLI, Marion

(7)LI, Na vs KIRILENKO, Maria
SAFAROVA, Lucie vs GROENEFELD, Anna-Lena
DECHY, Nathalie vs MORIGAMI, Akiko
BYE vs (3)PETROVA, Nadia

(6)PEER, Shahar vs QUALIFIER
BAMMER, Sybille vs REZAI, Aravane
SUGIYAMA, Ai vs SANTANGELO, Mara
BYE vs (2)MAURESMO, Amelie

This is the second time this year that Makiri has Na Li in the first round. :( However i feel good about her chances, especially after the showing in Birmingham. If Makiri can beat Na Li, then i think she has a good chance of making a nice run, especially since the other ladies in her portion of the draw aren`t exactly the best grass court players and the highest seed there, Nadia Petrova is just coming back from a back injury. So i wish Makiri good luck in Eastbourne. Go get them girl! :yeah:

Wow!! Such a hard draw for Maria! Li, Safarova and Petrova just to make the quarters.

If she plays like she did against Jankovic this week, I think she has an opportunity to do well though.

Na Li obviously must`ve pulled out. I think this is a tossup matchup, although i don`t know how good Sybille is on grass. Hopefully Makiri can get the tournament off to a good start with a win.

Makiri should seriously consider switching to tier IIIs. Otherwise she will keep struggling at winning two matches in a row.

What a disasterous loss for Makiri. This is obviously a big setback. You got to wonder about her confidence after this disaster of a match.

What a shame! Really didn't think she would have lost today! Hope it doesn't knock her confidence before Wimbledon, keep your head up Maria!

That's a terrible loss to Bammer. :( And just as I was getting my hopes up for Maria again. And for Masha to get routined like that by Bammer is shocking.

:tape: I think I better stop posting messages like this on Makiri's board from now on. Obviously, Bammer went to Makiri's website and saw this post which unfortunately lit a fire under her. She took our little Makiri to the wood shed and opened up a can of whoop-ass. Poor Makiri...:awww:......:sobbing:...:crying2:... :hysteric:

Especially on grass. :(
Bammer took advantage of her break point opportunities, and Maria didn't.
Didn't expect this kind of loss after Maria's good showing at Birmingham.

Great on grass? I don't think so. I believe the Birmingham tournament was her best grass result to date.

Yes, Makiri won only 5 games on Tuesday, but Bammer is certainly no slouch. She is the #22 player in the world, was 26-12 coming into Eastbourne, and reached the 3rd round at Wimbledon last year as an unseeded player. She is a player on the rise, and I don't think we should be surprised that she took down Makiri handily.
