When jenn lost to amelie (in that bogus match) yesterday, jenn had nothing but positive thing to say about amelie and yet a lot of people still torture jenn as an ungracious(?) loser. But look how amelie reacts to losing by reading the following article. Now, I know the article should be taken with a lot of salt but the fact remains amelie is not really a classy lady. :( btw, the article is from the bbc

Mauresmo dislikes Williams domination

Mauresmo launched a stinging attack

Beaten Wimbledon semi-finalist Amelie Mauresmo stirred up controversy in her post-match news conference by re-opening the debate over match-fixing involving the Williams sisters.

Frenchwoman Mauresmo was thrashed 6-2 6-1 by Serena Williams in the second semi after Venus had cruised past Justine Henin in the first.

Serena breezes past Mauresmo

Afterwards, she was asked which sister would prevail in Saturday's final.

"You have to ask them for that," she replied tersely.

To me, it's a little bit sad for women's tennis

Amelie Mauresmo She also stated that she did not think the domination of the Williams, who are numbers one and two in the world, was good for the women's game.

"I think people are going to get bored of it," she said of the prospect of a third all-Williams final in the last four Grand Slams.

"I'm not counting how many people since yesterday told me: 'We don't want an all-Williams final.'

"To me, it's a little bit sad for women's tennis but maybe it's not the point of view of everybody."

Matches between the Williams sisters have been regularly dogged by controversy and the pair have been criticised for their inability to produce their best tennis against each other.

The Williams themselves claim they find it difficult to play competitively against a sibling, but rumours have also surfaced that their father Richard decides who will win matches between his daughters.

I am dissapointed in Amelie, this sounds like sour grapes and I can't stand that:(

Is she not entitled to her opinion?

If she said this after losing to someone else, would it still be sour grapes?

If that is how she feels, then good for her for speaking her mind.

Of course it looks silly in a way, because she hasn't beaten either sister in her oppontunities this year.

But she was merely stating her opinon on that matter, an opinion that many share.

if she think it's sad for women's tennis then she should have beaten Serena. period!
and yes if she had said this after losing to another player it would have been the same!

according to sue barker (bbc presenter) amelie also said that their matches were also fixed and that venus would win this match since serena won the french.

why comment on something if you have no proof, no doubt the people who were offended when laura granville made those silly assumptions about amelies strength without any evidence will condole amelies remarks.

irma I didnt say that I agreed with her.

I also pointed out that she wasn't helping her case by losing to them.

Amelie had an opportunity to do something. The fact that she didn't is what's sad. Anyone who goes out in a semifinal of a slam and wins only three games probably should just shut up and deal with embarrassment in some other fashion. Now that is just my opinion.

Losing 6-2 6-1 in a Grand Slam Semifinal causes some folks to lose their minds.

that's just imature behaviour from Mauresmo, I was actually becoming a fan of hers, but no more of that:o

She is bitter cuz Serena gave her the biggest ass whoopin of the tournament, even if she feels like their matches are fixed she should not make those kinds of comments, i bet some players are uncomfortable with her sexuality maybe, but they don't say comments like that even if that's what they think, you cant just say whatever pops in ur head and i think hingis over the last years has learned to change that.

it's like Maybe Serena doesn't like jennifer but when she's asked about her she always gives a classy response, that's what separates Serena from Mauresmo, she is all class.

How did I just KNOW that someone was going to bring up Amelie's sexuality?

What does it have to do with anything?

Oh I'm sad to see such things on this board :(
Are you sure, that it was, what said Amélie ?
English press is so "people" and stupid, sometimes :fiery:
There is no interwiew of Amélie on the Winby site.
But don't forget, these are old ideas about the Williams sisters
and it is right that a lot of people (americans first) don't like to see final with the two sisters. It is often boring
But I don't think that Amélie said what "too much" people say :p

I have seen that article on the BBC, and before they have taken an interview and left 'certain' quotes out, so it is best to judge when you have seen the interview.

But I have seen quite a few players complain about Venus and Serena, and if they don't want that final they should try and find a way to beat them, that is the only way they can stop it.

To reach a Grand Slam Final you have to WIN SIX TENNIS MATCHES. SAME RULES APPLY TO ALL PLAYERS IN THE DRAW. VENUS AND SERENA WON SIX MATCHES EACH AND EARNED THE RIGHT TO PLAY IN THE WIMBLEDON FINAL :)

:fiery: What is your problem people??? cant people now speak their minds??:( What are soo shoked about??
i agree 100% with Amelie. u have to ask one of the sisters or better.... maybe u should ask their mum or dad to know wich of them is gonna win!!!
my opinion....... Venus is gonna win since she "let" serena win the last one :p

and you number one fan... what the fuck does Amelie sexuality has to do with the rest???

Amelie is entitled to her opinion but after she just lose to Serena...that is sour grapes.

Better luck next time.

I imagine her quotes have been taken out of context. Every prior interview I've seen after having been beaten by Venus or Serena has been nothing but gracious.

I'm sure she wasn't too happy about being beaten so badly, but she's always been good to avoid being baited by reporters in the past. It just seems to be a bit fishy to me.

Amelie's sexuality has nothing to do with her response on the Williams matches.

I mearley used that as an example, that im sure players have different opinions on but they shouldn't touch that subject or say things because its NONE OF THEIR BUISNESS, just like It's not Amelie's buisness to say ANything about the williams matches.

So before you ask pp "what does amelie's sexuality have to do with anything, why do you bring it up" blah blah blah, read a little closer, it was just an example.

Actually, there is an interview with Amelie on the Wimby site... a video interview. If you have Real Player, you can watch it for yourself... and clearly see WHAT Amelie said, and the CONTEXT she said it in.

Go here:
http://www.wimbledon.com/news/interviews/5e799577731bb13f00256beb00629c09.html
Click on the "Amelie Mauresmo Interview - Day 9" link. When the new window opens up, you'll see that there is a link for her Day 10 interview on the left side.

She was pissed at herself for not playing well, and she was a bit terse with the reporters, but she did not attack the Williams sisters. She gave her opinion, and then clearly stated that other people might feel differently and that it was okay if they did. I hardly think that qualifies as "launching a stinging attack".

You know, Sonja ,she seems to have said, that many people around her yesterday didn't want to see again a all williams final,
.............and to ask the sisters (not their mother or father) to know who will win saturday ;)
we call that in french "botter en touche" (rugby words) and a "boutade" a joke, a joke, only a joke :p

If her sexuality has nothing to do with it, why bring it up in the first place? And exactly what does it have to do with talking about the Williams sisters' matches??

Please stop making excuses. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions, but she had no right to make assumptions, without proof. Let's just be truthful here; is it really Venus or Serena's fault that they beat their opponents? Isn't that the objective in tennis? Venus and Serena are just playing the game, and they are playing it better than everyone else. Why can't she just take a note from Justine's book; Venus and Serena deserve to be in the finals, because they are the best tennis players in the world. I am really getting sick and tired of hearing other tennis players complaining about Venus and Serena. Also, if Serena won at Nasdaq, wasn’t Venus supposed to win the French (since many of you feel that the arrange matches)? My advice is that until you can beat them, please stop whining, and just try to improve your game.:o

I confirm what I said.
Look at the video and you will see? she said it is an common opinion, and it is her's.
But it was not excuses, she said Serena plays too good today, it was nothing to do
That 's right nothing to do, just have a better serve (first one of course);)

Gumbycat, Jabberwocky was referring to today's interview.

FYI, when asked what the difference is between the Williams sisters and everyone else, Amelie said "They're number one and number two....they're better than everybody else." When asked how much better, she said "all you have to do is look at their scores". She also gave props to Serena, saying that she was just "too good".

well....welll....didn't I say "take this article with a lot of salt"?:) Indeed, amelie gave props to serena in the interview. But, she also implicated that the sisters fix their matches; you could see it on the interview - she said ask the sisters and laughed and the reporters laughed. What she is implying is clear.

To me it looked as if she was dodging the question because she didn't want to offer a prediction.

But, of course, I'm sure your conspiracy theory has to be more accurate than my thinking that she was simply sidestepping a question.

Another misleading item from the BBC article - the caption under her photo:

She did no such thing.....she was merely asked about it during the interview.
The author of this "article", btw, is Caroline Cheese.....perfect!

Not to mention that she probably just didn't want to talk about the Williams sisters anymore! I'm sure a lot of the players (including the sisters themselves) are tired of answering questions about "All-Williams finals"!

If I were in Amelie's shoes, I'd be thinking, "Just ask me about my fucking match, so that I can tell you that she played great and I didn't, and then I can leave! I'm in a pissy mood and I don't want to sit here and answer a bunch of stupid questions that don't pertain to my match! I want to get this over with and get the hell out of here!"

So, they play more and do EXACTLY what YOU naysayers demanded, they played more.!!!!Now they're winning and what in hell do YOU say now??? Blah, blah, blah!!!

So, they just can't PLEASE YOU!!! They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't. YOU should always be careful what you pray (ask) for!!!:fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:
