GO Monica!!!

To the rest of the tour: Monica is 28 and is really only playing because she likes it. We all know she can't spend too much time training. Congratulations to everyone else on their mediocrity. What an exciting time for the sport. yawn.

evadafan - Don't forget that VENUS was also nursing a sore leg which is probably why Monica was able to sneak in that win at OZ. :)

Venus had won the previous round in like 12 minutes against Maleeva, she was playing top level tennis. Also during the match against Monica, Venus served great, had a lot of winners and ran down every ball. She even had a 00-40 in the final set but Monica was too strong that day.

Anyways great to see Monica playing top level tennis. She split her last 2 matches with each of the Williams! GO MONICA!

Monica won that match because for the first time since maybe 93 she didn't make any mistake on important points in set 2 and 3. that looked like the monica of old with the same determination and that's why she won!

Come on. I know that you saw VENUS play an earlir match in which she literally beat an opponet on one leg!

Her leg was not 100% because if that was not the case, Monica would have a couple of more wins on VENUS by now.

No excuses, it was a great win for Monica.
Maybe she will beat VENUS at the U.S. Open.
If VENUS has another injury, that is. :)

no excuse will save Venus from that 3 set loss. It was over and done with 7 months ago, Monica won it.. get over it. :)

We also saw that Venus DIDN'T limp her way through the next few rounds afterwards, including the match against Monica! So I guess Monica did beat Venus fair and square...We could also say that Monica was injured when Venus beat her at the '99 Pilot Pen because Monica's foot had been bothering her the entire summer that year, but we aren't saying that, are we?

Oh, and we could also blame the three set loss in 2000 at the Acura Classic was because of Monica's blisters and forearm injury...

Don't forget that MONICA had a fever during that match as well which is probably why Venus was able to sneak in that first set ;).

Even if they keep you out for two weeks, something that did NOT happen to Venus after OZ.

I was going to say she was also the only one to beat em both ion the past 52 weeks, but it turns out Meghann Shaughnessy has as well. We'll say beat Williams*2 and Capriati and that will eliminate Shaughnessy. Of course, we could also say every other player in the current top 8.

TeeRex--Monica didn't just have bunions, she had a STRESS FRACTURE--something that has ruined Kournikova's career. And if that doesn't count, then neither does Venus' "limping."

Venus herself has acknowledged before that when she plays against Monica, she (Venus) had better bring out her best game...
Even if Monica doesn't beat the sisters, it's already very incredible that she always poses a serious challenge to the sisters at the age of 28....

people the only person on tour that has a chance to beat the dominating sisters is seles.

We all know she can't spend too much time training.
evadafan - Why can't Monica train? She's a millionaire. It's not like she has a side job. She has all the time she could possibly need to play and train. I'm 44 and I train hard and often, so I don't accept that a 28 year old has any age related reason not to train. Judging by how she looked on TV this tournament, she HASN'T been training. But I'm unaware of any reason why she CAN'T train. Monica always wears loose shirts, but her belly was bouncing quite prominently underneath even the loose shirt. This is USUALLY an indication of overweight, and soft flabby abdominal muscles. Which would indicate a lack of ab training, at any rate. So I'd have to admit you were right.

But WHY can't Monica 'spend too much time training'?

My fellow Williams fans. If Venus was too injured to play, she'd have pulled out of OZ. She didn't. Monica's one of the ten best all time players, and is still a perennial top five player. Unless you can point to a fact that PROVES the ouotcome of the match would have been different, it's time to give Monica her due.

The score says Monica beat her.
VENUS says Monica beat her.

Why is this so hard to accept? Losing to Monica Seles is not a crime. For most players, its an expectation.

TeeRexx, yeah sorry I forgot about the cruch Venus was toting around during that match. Her movement was just so hampered, Seles' play had nothing to do with it. ;) :wavey:

Yeah I can't wait till the hard court season. It should be a lot of fun with Lindsey and Martina back on the tour.

Thankfully Venus is a lot more classy and mature, and handles her losses a lot better than *certain* fans, like Tee Rexx do :wavey:

She knows that in the future she will be able to win more titles and matches, and that it is all in her control.

The only satisfaction that *certain* people will ever get in their lives is waiting for someone like Venus to achieve something - which is beyond their control

Even when my favorite loses, I still have much respect for the other player. Since they were better than my favorite that day, right? I mean if I said that Justine Henin plays crap and really sucks, then what do I make of Monica's game since Justine just beat her. I dunno if that makes any sense, it's not a knock on Justine, btw.

Seles beat Venus at this year's Australian.
I can accept it. LIke Volcana said, its no crime to lost to the 9-time GS winner. Kudos to Seles for that win.

Unfortunately, lately I have seen Seles making too many errors on big points. I don't think its her fitness that causes her to lose matches - she'll have a point all lined up and then miss the shot. very uncharacteristic, but more common as the years go by.

Volcana, I meant that from looking at her its obvious she isn't training full time like the sisters, mauresmo, etc. She just doesn't see it as important and I guess finds it hard to be motivated. I didn't mean that she can't do it physically, just that's its obvious she doesn't train like the other members of the tour.
