What if Maria never...

...lost to the eventual champion at the majors??? I thought this would be an interesting thread, not sure if its been done before, but I was wondering when Maria was going through her semi-final faze and losing to the eventual champion what if she never lost those semis's, would she have gone on to win the slam?

AO: lost to serena, would have faced davenport. i think she would have won this match, she showed a couple weeks later that she could beat lindsay in tokyo...
RG: lost to justine, would have faced petrova in the semis and pierce in the final.. not too sure if she could have beat petrova on clay at this time in her career.
Wimbledon: lost to venus, again would have faced lindsay, being the defending champion i think she would have won again...
US: lost to kim, would have faced pierce in the final and i dont think pierce would have had a chance at beating maria on a hard court at the level maria was at in that slam...

Wimbledon: lost to amelie, would have faced justine. i think that justine would have beaten maria here, maria wasnt playing her best and she was still trying out new things here and there. hadnt reached her us open form yet...

what do you think? by my thoughts maria should be a 5 time grand slam winner by now :sad: ...

i didnt make this to look back and cry, more of a look back in a positive way... being proud that she only lost to the best, and if it wasnt for that player she was the best player there, imo.... i agree about looking to the future, but you dont always have to look back negatively, you can look back and reflect positively!

:) well wimbledon is coming up so maybe she can add a third one to her collection :devil:

I'll give you a more concrete "what if"--

2006 Australian Open

Maria wound up losing to Henin in the semis 6-4 in the third set. However, twice in that set, on game or break points in her favor, Maria was victimized by bad calls that Hawkeye cleared showed to be erroneous. Replay would have given those points to Maria, but sadly, it took the AO until '07 to initialize that system. In both cases, Maria not only lost the points, but the games as well.

If Maria wins those points, and assuming the rest of set progressed the same as it did, Maria would have won that third set 6-3.

So I'm still waiting for her to play the final against Mauresmo. Lord knows, it would have been more competitive.

yeh i remember that, those calls werent even close... just helped hawk-eye's case i guess... but knowing maria she probably would have used up her challenges already!! lol! why is it that maria always has disapointing endings at the AO?? match points, bad calls and then abit of an anticlimax this year! hopefully its all leading to something great! get all the bad stuff out the way in the early years before she goes on to greatness!

I wouldnt want her to win any of those slams though, the winners all really deserved them.

Kim and Amelie needed to win a slam (for Amelie, a slam other than the "tainted" AO)
Serena and Venus hadn't won a slam in a while. The only one that is a shame is the 06 AO, at least Maria would have played, win or lose.
