View Full Version : Why do people hate Jelena?

Reading the boards the past week, I cannot help but see some of the comments people say about Jelena. Especially the ones talking about how she is ugly (which I happen to disagree with, I think she is very pretty) I was just wondering why so many people on these boards don't like her?

I think people aren't used to a tennis player like Jelena who has a fun personality and is very sexy on and off the court. :hearts:  And Jelena actually smiles on court during matches. :D She's not just another tennis zombie and thank heavens for that. But that's no reason to hate Jelena or hate on her.

They hate Jelena because they hate themselves. Let them
go through the therapy.

The problem becomes when some of these haters, short
on character, long on number of posts they are
delivering, are playing the role of a moderator. Seemingly,
the only criteria on WTAworld for becoming the mod is
a sheer number of a ghost-written prose one can come
up with.

Take SloKid for example. This guy is a moderator of
Russian Roulette and Chechmate, but you'll have a hard
time finding a single post where he is on top of a role
he's supposed to play. On the other side, he is even
annoying to moderate Jelena haters (Craig), as they
are dumbfounded by his tenacity to let everyone know
he doesn't like how Jelena looks like. From moderator,
to a mindless newbie, it's a short road around here.

Despite being a mod I am still entitled to an opinion and I never used the words like "ugly" on wtaw, I only said the people Jelena was compared to were better looking.
You seem to feel like you're entitled to an opinion as well, like saying:
They hate Jelena because they hate themselves. Let them
go through the therapy.
Saying that is wrong, but of course you feel you have the right, no?
You actually have no proof I hate Jelena, all you have are two posts, where I said someone is better looking. So what if I don't like how she looks, you made a generalisation based on those two posts. Quite ridiculous.

And what "role am I supposed to play"? Is this the theatre?

And thanks for PMing me about this thread and my mention in it, although I have my doubts, who comes off as a worse person, you or me.

You're correct, every monkey is entitled to eat its own banana.
But playing a role of a giving mind, that escapes you.

It is. Your role is being a moderator.

You're welcome. Doubting yourself is a good start.

Don't worry.:wavey:;) I gave up on some of them long ago. I replied on some of these morons in the past. But to be honest, they are not my "kind", instead they are a total waste of time with no honor inside. Let them say what they want. In the end they are only pathetic. You know, when someone becomes succesful and this someone is really awesome in many ways like Jelena definitely is:kiss:, well, you will always have jealousy. So, forget about the "haters". They are not worth your time.;)

And as an edition: The most important thing is: They are only the minority!!!

True. There's a direct proportion there. BTW, City of Belgrade
is organizing a Welcome Back Party/Festival/Event tomorrow
at 19:30pm at grounds in the centre of Belgrade. Not sure
about Jelena, but Ana and Novak should be there.

It was great...actually I didn't read this thread unfortunatly..on time to give u the link. It was broadcasted live on
http://www.rts.co.yu/rts1uzivo.ram , maybe they will put it in archive or something.
There was roughly 50.000 - 80.000 people. Jelena, Novak and Ana were there, and while ladies were quite confused, Jelena specially, she was blushing and smiling all the time, and couldn't make one sentence:), Nole was quite good, they got out on the City Hall terrace, covered with Serbian flag, they tried to sing "Molitva", the song that won on this year Eurovision song, but they were mostly laughing and blushing. At the end, all of them said something that they are proud, and thank everybody that came that evening. City Hall terrace wellcome was almost exclusevly reserved for Basketball, Volleyball and Waterpolo teams, so Ana, Jelena and Novak were quite honoured and proud to be there...and they promised that they will come very soon on this very place after Wimbldone....That should be my journalistic view, I hope u got a picture. Pictures will come very soon

I hope that there will be some kind of recorded version of it, because I was simply too late.

And as an outlook for the very near future, maybe we will have these kind of scenario again. And even a bigger crowd will be there next time, to cheer for someone who has won something big.

To get back on topic....
Did u noticed the pattern...who is hating? Serena/Venus and some Masha fans...I didn't noticed Justine fans, at least not too many...
The most annoying thing to me, and I know it's stupid, but...when they say that Serena is handsome, or better looking. I don't give a crap how is someone's looking, but what kind of goggles are this people wearing.
Serena and good looking? I really don't hate that girl, just opposite, but this funs are really pissing me off ..or just recent discussion on GM...is Jelena doping? How can someone not notice Serena's look, almost man hands...and ask if Jelena is doping...why? Because she is playing a lot. What a horse crap!

You simply shouldn't care about those haters. Their arguments are weak and sometimes ridiculous. And you are right in terms of the Serena fans (I exclude the fans of Venus for some reason) and btw I have nothing against her, too. But when I look on some of her so called "fans" on this board, something is really funny and weired. The thing is, that I cannot remember that one of us ever started to open fire against Serena. So it really makes me wonder why in god's some of these morons constantly bashing Jelena?:mad:
But my conclusion is quite simple. They are just driven by jealousy and devastation. Serena is a great champion but it seems that her "sun" is slowly going down. And I agree on some other points. To speculate that Jelena is doped or something can only be the "output" of some poor and stupid mind. And the opinion of Serena's fans, that she is good looking:tape::lol:.....well, tastes are different. Just let them alone with this image, but we both now it's not true.;)

Obviously we know that whenever a player makes a move up the charts the hater level starts to increase over time. I find that often, but not at all always, this is driven by some form of being miffed that their player has been beaten (especially multiple times) by Jelena or is ranked lower than her. Jelena becomes a threat to their player in these ways. That's why I've noticed that *some* fans of Dementieva, Vaidisova, and Venus seem to pop up as anti-JJ the most. There's also a small contingency of Ivanovic fans that may feel a little bit of the compatriot rivalry, but luckily they seem to be outnumbered by fans of both Serbs.

Conversely, since Jelena hasn't played Maria in a long time and is ranked lower, Maria fans generally seem to like JJ. And since Jelena never beat Kim and now Kim's retired, a lot of her fans seem to have adopted JJ in her absence (possibly because of the very nice words Kim had for JJ after the Sydney final). I may be totally off on this stuff, but it's what I've noticed.

It's strange that I find myself sometimes so annoyed and provoked it's beyond beleif.

Obviously we know that whenever a player makes a move up the charts the hater level starts to increase over time.

Yeah, the truckload of bullshit is coming our way, and hordes of haters
are being led by sister Williams' fans, for obvious reasons.

One thing about Venus/Serena fans, they are really usurping GM area
like it's a Williams' family forum. Look at the number of posts in their
subforums and Dementieva, for example, comes out more popular
than both sisters combined.

Conversely, since Jelena hasn't played Maria in a long time and is ranked lower, Maria fans generally seem to like JJ.

I can't wait the day when Jelena beats Maria and goes past her
in the Rankings. I'm anticipating thousands of posts trying to
prove Jelena doesn't even belong on tennis courts. Consequently,
I have enriched my ammo with several bazookas, all kinds of
flame-throwers, some special miniature slings, not to mention
other fine low-tech breakthroughs in psychological warfare.

I know...it's just ridiculous. I used to want to fight with them too, but now I've just learned to mostly leave it alone. I'll still defend JJ in threads about her there, but that's about it.

Who knows, maybe we'll see that this week in Birmingham...it'd be cool. But I'd rather see it at Wimby

Well I don't understand how anyone can possibly hate her. But there are some in WTAWorld who do. Every player gets their haters here. Of course it's it is easy to do behind a computer with an anonymous identity.

What I do know and what is more important is in the real world she's made a lot of people fans of her including me with her personality and her play this last year. And what great welcome home scenes to the three of them at Belgrade.

She's a breath of air the way she enjoys herself and the way she laughs.
She must be the darling of the media - the way she is at interviews.
She must be the darling of the TDs with her committment to the tournaments if they see her name in any of their tournament she enters.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people here who disparage our WTA Super Stars. Evidently, no one is exempt from the poisoned pen of these critics.

I try my best to ignore the negativity and to enjoy the good comments and the many wonderful photos of our girls.

Please keep posting good news and lots of great photos!!

Thanks, Friend!

A thought occurred to me: it would be very nice if we could have our WTA Super Stars make an occasional appearance here on our forum so that they could answer questions and so that we can get to know them better. I am sure that this would end any animosity people might have towards any of them. And it would greatly add to our forum!!

Thanx!

Now that JJ is ranked # 1, I would like to know her views about her rapid rise to the top of the rankings. It certainly wasn't because of her winning smile or good looks --- it was hard work and determination that did it.

As a Yank, I naturally am inclined to root for our American players. That just cannot be helped.

But give JJ her due --- she made a quick rise from her own efforts and is deserving of our admiration for that tremendous effort.

Like many have said before me, it's only natural that the more Jelena wins, the more people will hate. Especially if she beats their faves along the way. Just look at it this way: If people at WTA World are hating on you, you must be doing something right.;)
