Chakvetadze Ready For Auckland
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/AnnaChakvetadze02.jpg

Russian Anna Chakvetadze is making her debut on the ATC Tour at Auckland. The 20 year old, unranked player has high hopes going into the event. "This will be my first tournament, so I have nothing to lose. I'm gonna go out there and try my best, hopefully get a few wins too. I know Bremond will be a tough challenge in the first round, but I know I have what it takes to beat her, and hopefully I prove this out on court."
The Russian is looking to make a big impression before the Australian Open, in a couple of weeks. "I want to get used to this surface before the Aussie Open, I will play her this week and on this surface next week too, hopefully this will be enough to prepare myself for the AO." She will play her first match tomorrow.

Alicia Arrives in Auckland

Australian Alicia Molik touched down in Auckland on eve of the first ATC tournament yesterday. Straight after checking into the players hotel, Alicia headed to the practice courts.
"I am so excited about my first match on the ATC tour. I play against Schiavone who is a real fighter so it is going to be really tough for sure! Hopefully I can win a few round and get to know some of the girls I will be playing against for the year."

Rezai arrives to Auckland

http://www.open-feminin.touquet-tennis-club.com/photos/9.jpg

Ready for the first season, France's Aravane Rezai arrived on the late tuesday to Auckland.

"I'm ready to play, although it is definitatly my worst surface I think I can still do well. In the Australian Summer it is important for me to find match-practice and I can improve my game. I wouldn't say I'm already on 100% , no , maybe 60"

In her first match Aravane Rezai has a Bye, in second round she is going to meet US-Ashley Harkleroad or Czech's Iveta Benesova.

"It is good that I have Bye in first, because so I have one more day to think and work on my game. About my opponent in R2 I have no idea, I don't know both of them, but let's see, I try to do my best. I think I'm going to watch this match"

Davenport fights into round 2

http://www.plein.nl/~anp2/ANP/SPORT/lindsay-50126.onlineBild.jpg

Auckland, NZL -- The ASB Classic is the inaugural event on the Ace Tennis Circuit, and every player in the draw is looking to start off strongly and establish themselves at the top of the rankings. The first match of the day saw Lindsay Davenport and Jelena Jankovic battle it out a three-set thriller, with the American edging her younger opponent 7-6(2) 1-6 7-5.

Davenport struggled to find her form early on, spraying several errors off her forehand in particular, and she fell 5-3 behind. She responded by winning the next three games before finishing the set with a comfortable tiebreak. However, a disastrous second set meant all the momentum was with Jankovic heading into the final set. Lindsay again went down 5-3, but she clawed her way to the win with her trademark groundstrokes. She saved a match point at 4-5 with an ace and ended the match with a flourish.

'I'm very happy to be the first winner on the tour (smiles),' said Lindsay. 'I think it's important to do well in these early events so that you get yourself a good seeding for Melbourne, which is where everyone is hoping to peak. I wouldn't say I'm playing my best tennis here; my aim is to experiment with different styles of play and see what I'm most comfortable with on this surface.'

Kirilenko Bounced In First Round amid Controversy

http://tennis-buzz.com/wp-content/kirilenko_adidas2.jpg

Russian upstart Maria Kirilenko was beaten 6-1 7-5 today at the ASB Classic amid massive controversy.

"From the get-go, I could sense the tournament official, T. Daviator, had it out for me. Since I'm good friends with Maria Sharapova, I can tell when that "glare" someone gives you means impending doom", Kirilenko said post match.

The controversy occured during a critical coin toss at the on-set of the match that ending up deciding the match.

"I have a feeling that coin was "heads" on both sides, really. It just wouldn't surprise me" said a distraught Kirilenko post match.

"I mean, all the credit to Justine, but all she had to do was show up. But life goes on. But this injustice will go down in ATC history", Kirilenko said.

Kirilenko hopes to show her other talents this week in the ASB hottie contest, where she is the top seed and three-time defending champion. She plays Kim Clijsters in the first round.

Medina Garrigues Frustrated With Vaidisova

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/586/21238807608medina.jpg

Anabel Medina Garrigues prepared for her debut match today in Auckland against Czech Nicole Vaidisova. Anabel has been on the practice courts a lot and was unaware that Vaidisova had yet to show up in Auckland. Anabel showed up to center court this morning and was shocked to find out that Vaidisova hadn't come. Anabel became frustrated with Nicole for not showing up and not allowing her to practice for Ivanovic, whom she faces now in the round of 16.

"I was preparing for Vaidisova and she didn't even bother to show up, I could've been practicing for Ivanovic."

After Medina Garrigues was awarded the walkover, she went straight to the practice courts to hit some balls around for her fans. She's excited to get Auckland underway tomorrow, and hopefully get her first real win.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/Venus01.jpg

While rebound ace is not her favorite of surfaces, Williams feels with a good start here in Auckland, she will do well for the rest of the rebound ace season.

"I'm happy with this win today over Lucie. She is a talented player on the rebound ace surface, so I was very fortunate to get early breaks in both sets and close out the match.

I play Justine tomorrow and that will be a real test for my game, but I am confident going into the match, and wish her the best."

Venus Into The Quarters of Auckland

Venus Williams continued her fine play today in New Zealand defeating good friend Justine Henin today 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Although she doesn't feel that she has prepared enough for this tournament, she is still optimstic that she can make a run for the first title of the year.

"Very happy with my victory today. I knew it would be a battle between Henin and I, just happy I was able to re-group in the third set and get crucial breaks that ultimately gave me the match. Really happy to make the quarters of my first tournament."

Sèverine impresses herself

http://severinebremond.com/prseve4.jpg

Yesterday in the day, Sèverine played her friend Amélie Mauresmo and like in first round, she has developed a great game with a lot of variations driving often Mauresmo to do an error. She beat her 6/1 6/4.

In first set, i play so very well ! I succeed to do no error and i was making to move Amélie in the corner of the court. Although i won, i am a bit dissapointed about second set, i made some bad choices but the victory is mine. I have to try correct this part of my game for tomorrow. Flavia will agress me with powerful ball. I have to be ready for a great fighting !!

Today, Sèverine qualified for semi-finals against Elen Dementieva defeating easy Flavia Pennetta in 2 sets 6/3 6/3. Director's tournament said about her thaht she could aspire to win the title.

Dominguez Lino l to. Dementieva 2-6 3-6

Lourdes Dominguez Lino Lost in the Quaters to Elegant Russian Elena Demetieva.

In the first set Dementieva was Really putting pressure on Lourdes, making her come to the net, were she isnt the most comfortable. Dementieva really Handled Loudres Heavy Balls, and not pressure was put on her. With the set ending 2-6 in Dementieva Favour

Lourdes didnt try to change her game plan, but still trying to out hit her opponent. It was there first time Playing Eachother And Little did Lourdes No that Elena is the fastest Runner on tour, and she would make her play one more shot. With her set a little better at 3-6

"i wasnt playing my best today, I was really exaughsted from my previous match, Which got me a bit cocky. "Wow ive never seen anyone on tour as quick as her on the Rebound Ace courts It amazing!" . "I wish her luck on the rest of the tour, and i hope to Verse again in other encounters" Said Lourdes Politely

The First Title
For Severine Bremond !

http://severinebremond.com/prsite.jpg

"Unbelievable !" These are the Bremond's world when she took the trophy from ATC director's hands ! In final, she defeated American Harkleroad in two sets 6/3 7/6(5).

Q : Sèverine, what are your feelings now ?
Sèverine : Euh... I don't know very well. It's unbelievble ! When i signed up for the tournament, never i didn't think " I am strong, i will win ! ". I arrived a bit in the unknown world and i believe that i'm fine here !

Q : During the tournament, you played a solid game. What was your tactic ?
Sèverine : I started strong to destroy opponents' nerves ! But today, I saw a great player. She came back to 5/0 to 5/3. I'm scared ! Then i played a solid game without doing error and it was the solution against her.

Q : So with the victory, you are the first World #1 ? A little word about this ?
Sèverine :  It's magic. I don't realize so much now, but tomorrow when i will wake up to take my plane to go in Gold Coast, i will realize.

Q : What will you do now ?
Sèverine : Drink like a fish with Eric, my husband
