Time to open a thread about my favourite junior player.
She is born on 14.05.1993 and she is probably France's biggest hope.
She reached two times the QF in Les Petits As in Tarbes and she also won one Grade 3 title in Tunisia.

She is 259th in the juniors rank, which is quite impressive for such a young girl.
Kristina is very very tall for her age (more than 1m75) and she is known to hit amazing forehands. One of my friends who saw her playing compared her game to Mary's !!!

I started the thread too early I know, but Kristina was making a great show during her match against Anastasia Pivovarova (number 2 in the juniors and number 561 on tour).
She lost 64 67(6) 60 in 2 hours and a half.
She was leading 50 in the second set, but she wasn't able to conclude it on her first occasions. She needed at least 8 SPs to take it. Then, Pivovarova who is physically stronger as born in 1990 showed all her experience to win the match. The last games were very close but Kristina wasn't able once again to take her occasions.

I hope she is not too disappointed. She really showed today how talented she is.
I am proud of her  I hope some people will support her as well, she deserves it :).

48 min is the time for the last set  and it's a bagel !

Kristina seems to be a 17 years old player but she is only 14  !!

Good luck in doubles with Amandine (another 1993 player).

Definitely no luck with close matches.
Kristina and Amandine lost 76(6) 75 to Reka Zsilinska and Tyra Calderwood.
I don't know what is her next tournament.
Amandine is in the entry lists of some ITF tournaments (Montpellier and Marseille). I hope Kristina will ask a WC too.

So after a 1991 generation a bit dissapointing, 1993 generation will be a great generation with Amandine, Juliette and Kristina.

Some many players who will become without doubt professional !

Yes, she is very promissing, and she is a very good player. She is -2/6 and this year, she fought a lot of -30.... and she won a ITF tournament!!! ^^. And she is only 14!! She is the favorite to the France Championship 13-14!

I am not sure but I would say that she has some Croatian origins.
Anyway, the French girls who come from Serbia Irena and Gracia are not very successful for the moment  .
Yes Kristina is the favourite to take the title in the French Championships. If she reaches at least the last step, we will have a chance to see her as the FFT uploads all the finals. :)
But I have just discovered that the tournament is public and free. :woohoo: As I will be in holidays, I will try to come and watch her. :)

As expected Kristina is playing Les Championnats de France 13/14 ans, where she is the favourite.
The draw is : here (http://www.ci.applipub-fft.fr/cipublic/tableau.do?dispatch=afficher&epr_iid=267). I don't see who can threaten her except Amandine Hesse, but they could meet only in final. I will be there for the QF or SF.
Good luck Kristina, win the title !! :D

Kristina is in SF :).
Her run till this step :
R1 : vs bye
R2 : def. Hubert 61 61
R3 : def. Collombon 60 61
QF : def. Deville 63 60

If the weather is nice tomorrow, I will try to come in RG and see her match. She is playing against Seateun who has some references, but once again, Kristina will probably destroy her.

I have bad eyes or Amandine lost to Vernet 6/2 6/2 ???

Another great hope ?!!

Well done to her and  to Amandine !

Kristina destroys every player !

In boys draw, Cedric Commin is favourite ! I played against him 4 years ago when he was still 30/2. I lost 6-1 6-4 !

Iceland

Amandine's loss is indeed very unexpected, Vernet is not supposed to be as good as her. I guess that Kristina won't miss the opportunity now to take the title :p. She has been very impressive since the beginning of the week, that just confirms the idea I had of her. She is a future star ;).
This time, I will go to RG if it doesn't rain of course.

A little parenthesis : Léolia Jeanjean won the title in the 11/12 ans competition !! :)

Kristina won the title, 64 62 against Vernet ! :aparty: She is now Championne de France 13/14 ans in singles and doubles. I saw the match but I couldn't take pictures as my camera no longer had battery .

First of all, she is really tall. It is very weird to hear a child voice in a woman body ! I have to say that I was impressed by her opponent who gave no points to Kristina in the first set. Caroline is a great fighter and an efficient counterpuncher. She has really many difficulties to hit a winner though and her serve is, in one word, awful.

Kristina has never been threatened by Caroline's game only by her consistency. She only had to stay focused and to cut down her number of unforced errors. Caroline couldn't play better than she did in the first set, it was logical to see her outplayed in the second set. Kristina has a very strong and fluent serve, I love her motion. She hit 3 aces, I think, for 3 DFs. She seems to a complete player even if she has to work on her net game ; still, she can hit some good dropshots and nice slices on the backhand. Her biggest weapon is her forehand (:hearts:) - which indeed is very close to Mary's, even if her backhand is not bad either. She makes mistakes of course, but this is quite normal as she is young and ... in final. I like the fact that she always stays calm ; she doesn't grunt, her tennis seems very natural. All the crowd was cheering for her with many "allez Kiki", this was great but also a little bit sad for Caroline who is a cute girl.

Overall, Kristina was the better player. If she keeps on working hard and improving her physical condition, she will become for sure a star. She has everything to be successful.

Congrats ! :bigclap:

I realized that Kristina has been very impressive in doubles during all the whole tournament. That's good to know, it can only help her to improve her game. But that's true that her scorelines have been a little bit disappointing except against Juhaszova. At least, we can say this title belongs to the whole team, they all deserved it as a collective job :).

Kristina will play a junior tournament (G1) in Austria later on July.

Léolia won a match there, it's not bad at all considering that she is one of the youngest player in the tournament. Amandine & Kristina have not been given a clement draw, they will have to face the two top seeds very quickly if they want to go far.

Yay, Kristina is finally playing at the level we expected from her ! :D
She secured her second Grade 3 title of the year in Czech Republic with a 36 62 60 victory. This was the only time she lost a set during the whole tournament, but she finished on a lovely note.

She is getting closer to the top 200 now, she is currently at the 212nd rank and thus, she is among the best ranked 1993 players :). She is playing now the European Championships 14y.o, sadly she is not seeded there. Her draw could have been worse considering this handicap, but remains still very tough :

Melis Sezer (8) vs Victoria Tomova
Saana Saartenein vs Kaarina Karema
Daniella Kyprianides vs Julija Kulibaba
Elina Svitolina vs Iveta Dapkute (12)

Ilona Kremen (13) vs Jessica Ren

Kristina is in QF :aparty:. She defeated the second seed Ksenia Kirillova (290th in the junior ranking) 63 36 61 :D.

The QF line-up :

Vivien Juhaszova (1) SVK vs Nastja Kolar (11) SLO
Timea Babos (3) HUN vs Silvija Njiric (6)
Aleksandra Krunic (5) SRB vs Martina Trevisan (4) ITA
Iveta Dapkute (12) LTU vs Kristina Mladenovic FRA

The next round shouldn't be too difficult. Dapkute took advantage of an easy draw, Kristina should theoretically get through without much problems. She is still 507th in the junior ranks. Keep going Kiki !!!!

Good idea to play le "Crit" ! Kristina is doing the right thing, she has to play against older players more often. Guisard is a pretty nice test, if she can beat her, it would mean that she has the level to play her first ITFs !
Allez Kristina :D, bonne chance.

Kristina plays Eddie Herr Championships (G1), let it be the first step of the big carrier :yeah:.
But more concrete things first, she has to go through the qualies. ^^

Here is her part of the draw:

Kristina Mladenovic (1) vs Katarina Gajic
Barbara Bonic vs Sachie Ishizu
Cassandra Kalivas vs Lea Bereszlenyi
Alexandra C Anghelescu vs Andrea Konjuh (2)

The first two rounds shouldn't be a problem. Konjuh would be tougher, but Kristina already defeated her 76 76 earlier in the year.

Nov 25th, 2007, 06:58 AM
No danger, but a little alert still, Kristina won 75 63 against Bonic but at least she did it!! :yeah:

Iceland
Nov 26th, 2007, 06:43 AM
Kristina qualified thanks to a 63 62 victory over Anghelescu :yeah:. She did really a great job so far, losing only 13 games :).
I think she showed already she is worth of top 100. She has quite a good draw, at least, very interesting:

Tamaryn Hendler (9) vs Danielle Mills (Q)
Kristina Mladenovic (Q) vs Ioana Ivan
Tara Moore vs Milana Spremo
Lyudmyla Kichenok vs Elena Chernyakova (6)

I really think that Kristina can reach the QF. Ivan is a top 70 player that shouldn't bother her much, she had losses against Burnett, Voicu or Rus. Kristina has already played 3 matches in addition, she is definitely the favourite.
And then Hendler, who doesn't impress me, she has been pretty terrible lately in juniors.

This is show time, Kristina :woohoo:! Allez!!!!

I have just discovered your blog few days ago making some research about Kristina & now I realize you're a poster here! Thus, I can tell you I really like it a lot & all the care you're showing towards Kristina. Keep supporting her ;).

Kristina often said that her physical condition is not her best asset, so perhaps she was too tired ... Same thing happened in this Austrian junior tournament in the Summer, she came out of the qualies, had to play one match per day & then lost very poorly to Nadja Roma.

Here is the qualifying draw ;):

Kristina Mladenovic (7) vs Lauren Embree (WC)
Charlotte Rodier vs Laura-Zsofia Biro
Olivia Janowicz (WC) vs Brittany Wowchuk
Kelsey Suldaram vs Maryna Zanevska (12)

A not so easy draw in my opinion, I still see her in MD but it won't be as easy as in the Eddie Herr I think. Rodier's level is a mystery, she can make great surprises & Zanevska is a talented 1993 girl just as Kiki.

Allez Kristina, give yourself a chance of competing with the best please! :bounce:

Just two further informations:
- Alexandra Anghelescu, the girl that Kristina defeated 63 62 in the R3 of qualies, reached the 3rd round in MD, falling against Kasia Piter 76 46 63 . At least a consolation for Kristina, it was apparently an excellent win.
- Kristina committed to a Grade 1 tournament in Mexico next week. She will surely play the Casablanca Cup (Grade A) which is two weeks after.

Yes, I was refering to the juniors AO ;). She is 154th this week. I don't know if getting out of qualies will give her any points. I had a look & Rodier earned nothing last year :( I hope she breaks top 100 before the end of the year so that she can play AO.

Here is the (difficult) draw :

Arantxa Rus (14) vs Sandra Zaniewska
Monika Wejnert (WC) vs Kristina Mladenovic
Sally Peers vs Anastasia Grymalska
Alexandra Damaschin vs Madison Brengle (4)

God it's really not a gift this draw. She has a good shot at winning her first round, but she has to take care. Wejnert is in good form, she reached the QF at Nottinghill as a WC as well. She might be very dangerous .

First step completed and for the first time, Kristina wins a match in a Grand Slam in one hour, 64 62 against the talented Wejnert! I am so happy for her!! She really had to work for this win because despite a great start (4/1), Kristina let her opponent come back wasting GPs for a 5/2 lead, then she had to save BPs at 4/4.
Good job Kristina :yeah:.

We have some stats from the match:
First serve % = 55%
One ace, 2 DFs
Winning % on 1st serve : 72%, on 2nd serve : 42%
5 BPs won out of 8, got broken twice.

Once again Kristina falls early in singles . Rus won 60 75. Kristina was simply not there in the first set, but she started to fight more in the 2nd. Actually she came pretty close to win it as she had 6 GPs to lead 5/4 and 6/5. But she wasted her occasions. It's the feeling I have at the end of the match, she could have done better had she played better the key points. It's really something she has to work on, it's not the first time it has happened.

Nice try Kristina. Hope you win those matches soon.
Good luck in doubles .

I had tickets for tomorrow but because of this stupid schedule, I will miss her match, I can only stay till 16.30. I have no reason to come now .... Still it's awesome for her that she has a WC already!!! She has no choice now she has to win for me so that I can see her on Sunday ^^.

Kristina lost 63 62 in 1h10 . Quite a good fight from her, too bad she couldn't convert all her opportunities but she did it fine for a first experience in a WTA event. Petra was very solid on serve, Kristina only managed to break her in the last game when she saved a MP ;). She 's a tough girl so the scoreline isn't bad at all ... The only thing that I regret is that Kristina didn't keep her high first serve percentage as she did till 3/2 in the first set.

Good luck in the Winter Cup Kristina! :)

Even though it won't count, Kristina has scored 3 top 100 win in the European Winter Cup :
- 61 62 against Richel Hongenkamp (75th) in the qualifying rounds
- 46 75 64 against Timea Babos (64th) in R1
- 61 64 against Yana Buchina (56th) today for the 3rd position competition!!!

She is perfectly assuming her top 100 status. Too bad that she lost the only match that mattered ^^.

Next tournaments : Banana Bowl (G1) & Copa Gerdau (GA). She will seeded there :D.

Kristina finally gets back to junior events. She will play the two big tournaments in Brazil, the Banana Bowl (G1) begins this week. She will take it as a preparation for the Copa Gerdau, the real tournament to get. :)

1 Bojana Jovanosvski SRB vs Q/LL
Nadezda Guskova RUS vs Laura Slater GBR
Isabela Robbiani PAR vs Zuzana Luknarova SVK
15 Diana Marcu ROU vs Gally de Wael BEL

11 Kristina Mladenovic FRA vs Q/LL
WC Flavia Borges BRA vs Josymar Escalona VEN
WC Marina Lebrão BRA vs Alexa Guarachi USA
8 Valeriya Solovieva RUS vs Aleksandrina Naydenova BUL

I think this is a good draw for her. I am looking forward to a match against Jovanovski. The road isn't easy but her last event makes me confident. Nouf who saw her reported that she has improved her serve adding more power to it . Allez!

Iceland
Mar 11th, 2008, 07:10 PM
Kristina won her first match not as easily as I thought, but she still got through with a 62 36 61 victory over Di Biasi. :D The job is done, it's what matters. She will surely level up match after match, maybe she needed time to adapt herself to the Brasilian conditions.
She faces tomorrow Brasil's Flavia Borges 201st. I thought that it would be an easy round for her but actually she has some good references this year : a Grade 2 tournament won & then a SF+QF. Kristina has to be cautious with this one, she won't have the crowd with her in addition.
Allez ;)!

Iceland
Mar 12th, 2008, 10:08 PM
Kristina won quite convincingly 64 75 against the talented Bresilian. She was in good form, so even though the gap in the ranking is big, I think Kristina can still be happy about her performance. A third round is already a satisfaction, but now she needs to go farther, I hope she is ready!
She faces Valeriya Solovieva, one of the toughest seeds she could face ... but she should make it, I'm confident! ;) Allez!

Iceland

Kristina keeps on winning (except in doubles, she lost in first round with Amandine :tape:)!! She defeated today Valeriya Solovieva 75 63 :yeah:. Very clean win without much trouble!! I'm so pleased about this result, she is finally striking top 100 wins in important tournaments. It's only her third official one. It's also her first big QF here :)!

She meets Diana Marcu who took out Jovanovski for Kristina , a big opportunity to reach QF! :bounce: Cmon!!!!

She went into SF but she lost to Ormaechea 64 62 . I guess this girl is the typical claycourter & managed to disrupt Kristina's game.
It's still a great tournament for her, one of the best she had. I hope she follows this way in Copa Gerdau (GA). She can score big points there ... & she has to ^^. Her points won in Tunisia last year are taken off in the next weeks.

Kristina is keeping her good form in the Copa Gerdau where she has reached the 3rd round after a 62 60 victory over Slater :yeah:. She has also broken top 70 this week, so she is at her best rank! I hope she can build on this & get even higher, she has points to defend during this week, so the more she wins, the better it is ;).

She faces number 1 seed Bojana Jovanovski, an upset is really possible, cmon Kristina!

Iceland
Mar 24th, 2008, 06:40 PM
Kristina failed at defeating Bojana in a very one-sided match in favour of the Serbian girl lost 26 26 .... BUT she did take the double title with Maryna Zanevska :bounce:!!!! They won 64 60 in the final!

Kristina is getting closer to reach top 50, she is at the 56th rank this week thanks to her brilliant performance with Maryna :). I really like how things are advancing for her, she is already an accomplished double players, it will help her a lot to improve her game in singles. Her next events will be on April, 7th in Le Cap d'Ail for a Grade 2 tournament. The biggest threats will be Zarina Diyas, Ana Bogdan & Laura Robson.

I can't wait already!!! Allez Kiki!! :D

I'm always the only one to talk in this thread .

Kristina is back on clay in le Cap d'Ail this week for a G2 event. She will start the tournament against Margarita Lazareva, then a Q or Ejdesgaard. It should be easy till this point. Afterwards, she has Zarina Diyas, one of the most in-form 1993 girls and Ana Bogdan...

Not easy, but I think it's better this way. If Kristina wants to improve, she will have to beat those girls. She has yet to score a big upset. Reaching SF here would already be very satisfying. Good luck :D.

Kristina comfortably won her first match 61 64 against Lazareva (185th) who is 3 years older than her. She needed 1h30 though, the first set was perfect, she didn't face any BPs. She struggled a bit more in the 2nd as she got broken twice. I hope she won't face any lapses of concentration in the next rounds.
Congrats Kristina ;).

Kristina had to fight a bit more to take out qualifier Isabella Shinikova (outside of top 200), she won 62 75 but in 1h10 only. The match got interrupted by the rain in the middle of second set, she may have troubles to find her concentration afterwards. Still she is showing consistency and that's all we are asking for! I hope she improves her form though, she can surely do better than that.

Next match will be more interesting, either Adeline Gonçalvès who has a pretty big experience in juniors and ITFs or Laura Berlinecke who took out Zarina Diyas. Kristina is also in SF in doubles :yeah:.

Cmon! :bounce:

Kristina reaches SF at home :D! She struggled a bit more today winning 63 76 against Adeline, but I think this is pretty good considering how impressive her opponent was in the early rounds. She has more experience than Kristina as well. So this time, I'm truely satisfied!

Kiki should move forward a bit more with this good run. But I really hope she can have a first big upset of the year in next round, if she gets to play Ana Bogdan (n°10). I like her consistency, but beating top 100/200 girls is nothing spectacular for her at this point. Allez Kristina, fight for it!

I have the honor to tell you that Kristina finally scored her first top 10 win & reaches her first final of the year, I am so proud of her!!!!! :sobbing::aparty:

She defeated Ana Bogdan 75 67 75 in 3h30, such a marathon that she managed to win. I'm really glad this time she managed to hold her nerves & to survive physically to such a long match. I have to say this is the longest one I have ever seen!
She will play against Klaudia Boczova in final who cruised during the whole week. No matter the result, this week has been truely amazing for her. Congrats Kristina, get some rest & take the title!!!!

Iceland
Apr 12th, 2008, 05:54 PM
Kristina sadly had not enough energy to win, she lost 57 16 against Boczova. Her serve was completely off today. No way she could win with less than 50% of first serves. She also lost the double final. Great week still !

48 min is the time for the last set  and it's a bagel !

Kristina seems to be a 17 years old player but she is only 14  !!

Good luck in doubles with Amandine (another 1993 player).

Thanks! I'm really happy that I aroused your curiosity because she really deserves to be known! She caught my attention by her origins, the fact that she was very promising in her U14 tournaments & also her height! So I decided to follow the evolution of her carrier and it's going pretty nicely :D. I always liked to find new talents, but Kristina immediately got me in her camp. This is probably because she reminds me of Mary in her personality.

Kristina is more of a hard hitter than a crafty player as Léolia Jeanjean is (another rising star in France, born in 1995), this is obviously due to her physical aptitudes. Her serve is her biggest asset I would say & then probably her forehand that can go extremely fast. I like the fact that beyond those qualities, she tries to construct points. But it's also her problem, sometimes she doesn't take enough risks IMO. She uses more her power to defend and surprise her opponent I would say. She is not like Gavrilova or Orlik the mini ballbashers-replicas of Sharapova.
I have to say that I only saw her twice, so I can't say much ^^.

I think I posted it already but this video is a little summary of her final of the French Championships (U14) against Vernet. She was a bit tense but there are some good points. http://www.fft.fr/Championnats-de-France/2007/video13ans-f.htm

Thanks for having posted here!

Thanks for the vid. Very engaging personality. Seems a bit shy.

I chose to read the whole thread before watching it and posting my second comment. (I should have watched it first maybe! )

It's good that she likes to construct points. However, for her height, I find her a bit too skinny. Hopefully she will put more muscle on her frame, so she can last through long matches (like Sharapova had to do too). It's interesting that the players she likes are Sharapova and Golovin. :p

Let's hope she can be like Mary Pierce and win Roland Garos. Can she also put topspin on her FH though? In that vid, she seems to hit more flat and hard ? At least she looks confortable on clay. I wonder what her game will look like on grass...

Anyhow, I might have to keep an eye on this player through your thread (as you well know, we barely get any tennis coverage in Canada. She probably won't be on my tv for a looooooong time!). So keep the updates coming. :wavey:

Thanks to the patience you showed to read everything!

I'm coming up with a good news. Kristina decided to play the 2nd G2 tournament and despite my fears that she would be too tired, she still won 62 63 in one hour against Laura Robson - finalist in Tarbes' Les Petits As this year! :D She was helped by the 15 DFs Laura hit though, but she stayed as well very solid on her own serve. Many first serves today with a winning % of 70.

On the other side, she lost in R1 in doubles as the second seed (phew!). She had to play for 2h30 though .

She will face Malou Ejdesgaard on Thursday. It should be easy. Allez!

Kristina lost early in Beaulieu 67 26 to Golubic, a young player from Switzerland who got pretty good results in France in the last weeks. Kristina's serve was once more completely off, like in every match she loses! A first serve percentage below 50% and 19 double faults. How can you win with such statistics? :o

This is a bit disappointing, her clay season began quite well but on the other side, she has been defeated for the 3rd time (after Ormaechea and Gorgodze) by a player with a lower rank than her. I hope she makes a good tournament the next time she plays otherwise those kinds of loss could get into her mind. Allez Kiki, take some rest & see you in better form soon :D.

Vika has been pretty bad these days. Good luck Kristina!

Iceland
Apr 26th, 2008, 10:24 PM
God, I didn't expect that at all!!! This is really good news! :D

This match will surely make a good basis to evaluate her chances to doing well on the ITF circuit. I suppose that the FFT is testing her so as to see if she has a opportunity of winning a match in Roland-Garros, just as they did with Alizé in 2005.

I don't know what to expect. Kristina hasn't shown her best form lately having lot of troubles with her serve which remains her best asset. Still, she is coming here with a G2 final & a G1 title in doubles with Amandine. She certainly has more confidence than Kutuzova. If she manages to keep the ball in play, she may have a chance to drive her crazy! Clay has never been the surface of brainless ballbashers, so she may be able to take a set to her, it would already satisfy me a lot :D.

Good luck Kiki, give your best!

Iceland
Apr 29th, 2008, 06:10 PM
Kutuzova won 61 75 in 1h41 min :sobbing:. Kristina had a SP in the second set, but fell down after a missed attempt at converting it ... It's not the first time that she choked, but against a more experienced player, it's not so surprising. She is French after all!

It's good to see that she managed to challenge an accomplished top 200 player, but I can't help thinking that she could have done better. She took advantage of Kutuzova's second serves, but on her side, she couldn't stay solid on her own serve hitting again 13 DFs (but 6 aces :yeah:).

Too bad, but I wished she could have taken this occasion. We'll have to wait a bit more before signs of a breakthrough.
Her next tournament will be on May 19th for the Trofeo Bonfiglio (GA) in Milano, unless she receives a WC somewhere else like in St Gaudens the week before.

Kristina is 44th in the juniors rankings by the way :yeah:.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude. But it annoys that some people just see in her a potential asset for the Serbian team while she is French. She has never switched nationalities, she is just the daughter of an immigrant. I like this mix of culture, it always gives a beautiful message when a person has many origins & shows that she is as part of her nation as the others.

But it's true that she is the FFT's best card. They have been doing everything to boost her development as a tennis player.

Kristina made a good start for her RG preparation 'nel Trofeo Bonfiglio' (a prestigious Grade A tournament), she defeated Misaki Doi (66th) 57 64 63. :D

A hard match against a player who isn't a specialist of clay doesn't look very bright in itself, but Kristina looks herself in some kind of transition. She stopped her cooperation with her coach Roch Vidal to be under the protection of Georges Goven :o. He better do something good with her game. I don't know his quality as a coach but as a Fed Cup captain, he clearly sucks!

Kristina lost to Burnett 67 26 who went to the SF after. A bit disappointed obviously because there are more and more losses to players who have a lower rank than her. Still it's far from being a shameful defeat. I hope she plays better for Roland-Garros.

Kristina finally got a WC for Roland-Garros but in doubles with Amandine!!!! They face Coin/Huck in R1 before probably Raysur. Such a nice initiative from the FFT and a nice reward for their good results! Allez les filles!

Kristina defeated Kasia Piter (16) in Roland-Garros 26 63 64, I'm so proud of her!!!! :D Such an awesome comeback, she couldn't offer herself a BP in the 1st set and then, she constantly threatened the Pole! She stayed also very strong on her own serve, a very convincing win with 5 aces for 8 DFs.

First big win in Slam . She has a easy opponent in 2nd round : Zuzana Linhova, Kristina defeated her last year in three sets though.
Allez!!!!

Kristina reaches 3rd round and confirms her upset over Linhova (62nd) in straight sets 75 62! :yeah: She made a huge comeback in the first set, she was down 2/5 with a double break. She even saved a SP! A lot of work achieved on her mental, she converted 8 BPs out of 10 while last year she used to wasting so much of them. Looks like this collaboration with Goven is not a bad idea after all.

Kristina is BTW the only 1993 girl to be in the 3rd round, Diyas, Babos & Orlik all lost :p! But she faces Arantxa Rus now, a tough match is coming. Both players know each other well since Rus has beaten Kiki 60 75 in the Australian Open. A revenge is coming in front of her home crowd!! :bounce:

Kristina lost again to Arantxa 61 63 . Some games were close but Arantxa's confidence/experience payed in the end. She missed 4 GPs to begin the 2nd set and since then, it was predictable that she would lose. She did fight to stay alive though, saving 5 MPs at 16 15 to hold & break Rus, but her 1st serve betrayed her and she lost!

A good tournament though. :yeah: A 3rd round result in a Slam is always good to take, I hope she doesn't stay on a sad feeling about it. Wimbledon is coming, but she will give herself to shine on grass at Roehampton first. Allez!

Actually Kristina is playing a G2 event in Halle, I totally forgot to check if she was in the entry list.
She is already in QF beating Jade Hopper from top100 & Anett Schutting in straight sets. :yeah: She faces Linhova again, I hope she remembers what to do to beat her comfortably!

For a debut on grass those wins are quite convincing. It's never easy to play an Aussie on this surface and she survived this test very firmly.

Great win :yeah:. Just the perfect confirmation of a fantastic grass-court season! I hope she can reach the QF of Wimbledon, it would be a first but big step to her junior career and now that the highest seed of her part of the draw is out, I'm confident about the rest! ;) In addition, Kristina doesn't play doubles, so she has more time to rest!

Next is Sandra Zaniewska whose best weapon is dropshot. The rest of her game is quite unimpressive, but she is quite on a good form. Could be relatively tough. Good luck!

Kristina reaches 3rd round again :D! Defeated Sandra Zaniewska 76 62, but she had to save a SP in the first set. Stats don't look so great (17 winners for 29 UE) but the essential is done. At least she tried t go to the net a bit more.

She will still come as the favourite in her next match against Romana Tabakova, but it will be a bit more difficult. Hope she doesn't feel too tired, it looks like a good decision to not play doubles now. Allez, go for your first QF! :bounce:

Kristina lost to Tabakova 64 63 :help::o! Really disappointing, she totally missed her match. So many UE & her serve was off (first serve percentage below 50%). Missed a couple of BPs on important games. It was a golden occasion to reach a first QF, I'm soooo gutted. Time will come in favour of her I'm not worried but this loss hurts a bit.

Kristina's injury is not as bad as we feared. She had to give up on the Summer Cup U16 which resulted on a early exit for France . She played not so long ago the French Championships U16, she went to the final comfortably but lost 61 75 to Amandine. A bit unexpected I would say, but the more I think about it, the more I tell myself that Kristina is not made for clay. I wish I could have seen the match but I was on holidays so no report this year!

From the report I read on the FFT website, Amandine played a brillant match being very aggressive, she led 61 43 40/0 but Kristina came back! Amandine exploded but recovered on time to go from 4/5 to 7/5.
Kristina may have lacked this spirit of aggressiveness. She really has to work on this aspect of her game. In an interview, she mentioned that grass is her favourite surface, that her serve is her best asset and that she thinks that she should work on adapting her gameplan to the quality of her opponents. For the next year, she aims at winning GS titles in juniors and starting her pro career.

Kristina will play the Canadian Open next week and afterwards US Open. Good luck!

Mladenovic hangs on for Holland win
France’s Kristina Mladenovic won one of the most keenly contested matches in the US Open Juniors on Wednesday when she beat Australian Isabella Holland 61 67 64 to move through to the third round. Mladenovic survived a second set fightback from Holland and a host of physical problems in the third set to win and set up a meeting with seventh seed Kurumi Nara of Japan.

“This match was very tough for me. It wasn’t so much at the beginning because it was 61 4-1 for me but then I started to play not very well and she started to play very good,” explained Mladenovic. “Everything happened so fast. I missed some shots and we have some tough points and she came back. She had a lot of support there. I was feeling very bad physically, it was very bad and I had a headache and I wanted to vomit. I won that third set just because I wanted to win it so much. The tennis wasn’t there. I just wanted it.”

Mladenovic was clearly struggling with her health at the end of the match against Holland but said she expected to be fully recovered for what could be another difficult encounter with Nara. “I stayed strong because I’m like that. I don’t want to let someone win because I’m not feeling very good. I will do everything I can to win,” said Mladenovic. “Everything was perfect and some things happen to change the match but I’m very proud to win this match. I did my best and I tried everything possible because I don’t like to lose. Physically I feel good now because the problems like I had are not like having cramps or something. My tennis is there. There is no reason why I won’t play good in my next match. Today was tough but we don’t just practice for one match, we practice to play lots of matches.”

Mladenovic and Nara were joined in the third round by Katarzyna Piter of Poland, Belgian Tamaryn Hendler and Americans Gail Brodsky and Coco Vandeweghe. Two more home players, doubles partners Asia Muhammad and Melanie Oudin, are due to meet in the third round.
