hi everybody !

The FO start on sunday and here is Maria's quarter draw:

Sam Stosur (Aus)[n°27] vs Jamea Jackson
Maria Kirilenko (Rus) vs Maria Elena Camerin (Ita)
Qualifer vs Vania King (USA)
Emmanuelle Gagliardi ( Sui) vs Nicole Vaidisova (Cze)[n°6]

She doesn't have a good draw! And it's clay...Hope she wins against Camerin, then she'll probably meet Stosur - tough one! Anyway...please win some matches!

DAVAI MAKIRI!

Actually, aside from MEC and possibly Sam, it's a decent draw. Nicole is injured. Jamea is just coming back and Vania isn't too well on clay. I'm more worried about MEC, strangely. She has decent results on clay.

To be honest, I'm kinda worried with Makiri's 1st round match. Hopefully she'll avoid the ERES (Early Round Exit Syndrome)and pulls that match out eventhough she's been struggling lately with her form. Good luck Makiri at Roland Garros! Have a good showing at the 2nd slam of the year!

Hopefully she's been working her butt off to get out of this slump and she gets that first win i'll be happy with that go Makiri do it for yourself! I don't think it's that bad a draw could have been worse.

Makiri with the performance she has had this year so far without a coach absolutely

will have no chance.Im worried that if she cant pass her first round match.I m very

sorry for her.As I have been telling from the beginning she should get a coach and do

something immediately to change this bad row.

Another tough draw for Makiri. :( Still i really hope that she can somehow get a win. It`s been way too long since she had one.

Maria's first three rounds are as follows:

--------------------------------------------
Samantha Stosur AUS (27) vs. Jamea Jackson USA
Maria Kirilenko RUS vs. Maria Elena Camerin ITA

Qualifier vs. Vania King USA
Emmanuelle Gagliardi SUI vs. Nicole Vaidisova CZE (6)
--------------------------------------------

We honestly could not expect a better draw for Makiri for the first two rounds. She could have just as likely faced Henin in the first round (like poor Elena Vesnina will), but instead she draws a player ranked below her. In addition, Stosur, Jackson, and Camerin have each won exactly one match in their careers at Roland Garros.

But as we all know, nothing should be taken for granted, starting with her first round matchup.

25-year-old Maria Elena Camerin is currently ranked #72 but that will move up about 10 places with her quarterfinal showing in Strasbourg, where she beat #44 Nicole Pratt and #79 Aiko Nakamura before losing to #4 Jelena Jankovic 3 and 4. Judging soly on this result, I would say she is playing decently coming into this tournament.

During the clay court season, Camerin had a 3rd round showing at Berlin (beating Chinese players Jie Zheng and Na Li in nearly identical 3-set scores before losing to Henin), sandwiched by 1st round losses in Budapest and Rome both to seeded players.

Here's a summary:

Camerin v Kirilenko has happened twice with Makiri the victor each time. But Makiri was playing much better then than she is now. In 2004, she was introduced to the world with her near upset of Serena Williams at Roland Garros. In 2005, she was on a winning streak which included the Beijing title. Still, she has got to have Makiri some confidence going against Camerin. Remember, take nothing for granted.

--------------------------------------------
Kirilenko leads 2-0
2004 S'HERTOGENBOSCH GRASS (O) R32 M. KIRILENKO 6-4 6-1
2005 GUANGZHOU HARD (O) R32 M. KIRILENKO 6-4 7-6(1)
--------------------------------------------

I hope I can do a match preview of Makiri vs. Stosur/Jackson and also Makiri vs. Vaidisova! Good luck, Makiri!

I remember watching MEC on TV, when she was playing Muller in Budapest recently; she was far from impressive ( I remember well, because I had a financial interest in the result ;) ).
Now, we all know that MaKiri has been far from impressive recently ( to put it mildly ! ), but I feel this is an ultimately winnable tie. And - fingers crossed - , if Maria can win this than a potential 2nd round tie with Stosur / Jackson wouldn't be too bad either...
Anyway, I'm sure this is probably the best draw we could have hoped for, for Kiri... I had this horrible feeling she was going to get a REALLY tough 1st round opponent...

She didn't. Stosur won the final set 7-5 and Maria let another great opportunity go by. Masha is poor close match player and it's haunting her career. :( And the fact that she has a poor serve kills Maria in close matches.

I wish she would be aggressive right from the start. Not wait until she is a set down before really fighting. Still she did well on Net Approaches, but it was the timid 1st set that cost her the match. A bit more aggresion at the start might have brought a different result.

I think some of you are being a bit too negative !
I, like the rest you, am very frustrated at MaKiri's 2nd round exit. I think the thing that a lot of us find hard to swallow, is that Maria perhaps should have won this. Looking at the statistics it appears that it was a very even match - it appears that MaKiri's break point conversions in the final set is what ultimately cost her :tears: :sobbing:
And as Jim rightfully points out Maria appears to have been timid in the 1st set; just 1 net approach ! then 7 out of 7 succesful approaches in the 2nd !
But, let's look at the positives: it doesn't seem that long ago that Maria was getting beaten by everyone on clay - going out in 1st round matches at tier IV tournaments; and now she has matched an in-form Stosur - who recently has had match points against Chakvetadze in Berlin, and beaten Mauresmo in Rome.
Obviously, it's disappoining that Maria loses some ranking points, but overall I think this tournament has been a success for her. Althouhg, she'll slip in the rankings after this tournament - with 1st round exits last year at 's Hertogenbosch and Wimbledon, hopefully we'll see some upward movement in Maria's ranking. :yeah:

What you say is somewhat true. Maria lacks of plenty confidence. I was relatively deceived that Maria didn't pass more rounds in RG. I really love her (she's indeed very very beautiful, very sexy and very nice to see evoluate on a tennis court) and her beautifull tennis. If their's one wish I'd like to see realized (exepect the fact that I'd like to see masha's game go more towards the net and accept to marry me !) is for maria to evoluate with all the young generation that sabords the top 10 (Ivanovic, Vaidisova, Golovin... which I all like !) and become our world n°1. She has a lot of talent to show and I'm very impatient to discover all its facettes !

Love you Maria !

its pretty disappointing that her ranking has continued to slip as she keeps getting knocked out in the early stages of each tournament. i remember at the start of the year that there was talk that she would get a spot in the top 20, now she'll be lucky to stay in the top 50.
At least ana is doing well.

Another thing, does maria's official website (www.mariakirilenko.com) ever get updated? there is nothing about her ranking, current performance/news, the feedback page doesn't even work and the pictures are from 2 years ago. Ana's website (http://www.anaivanovic.com/) has a diary which she updates every day, she replies to fan mail/questions, she has a large picture gallery and theres heaps of news and scores. i know she is really busy, the least she could do is hire someone to update it for her, or i'm pretty sure heaps of guys would do it for free.
