http://sport.idnes.cz/vaidisova-je-uz-zdrava-a-hladova-po-tenisu-fg9-/tenis.asp?c=A070523_222125_tenis_rou

Before some days she had problems with her wrist, but now she is OK. She is training 100% from Saturday. She has no doubt about playing RG. She is not afraid of her 3 weeks pause from tennis. She thinks she will be back in her form in 2 days.
Interviewer asked her what she was doing during this 3 weeks. She said family, friends, school. Next question is about her study, she said she has 2 exams (economics and czech language) to pass her third year. Then question about her talismans, she said she carry only some family photos. Then Interviewer asked her if she thinks often to her semifinal last year on RG. She said no, it is one year ago. She has great memories, but life continues. If she ends in RG very soon, she will she will go down in ranking, but as she said, it doesnt matter, because she can come back everytime. And last question is about her baggage and clothes, nothing interesting.

Vaidisova is already healthy and sheís hungry in tennis

First Czech tennis young lady Nicole Vaidisova goes for fights on Roland Garros in Paris. What is main: sheís healthy and hungry in tennis. Her right wrist bothered her not long time ago. But Czech 18-yrs-old confirmed: ďAlright. Iím 100% fit. I train on 100% since Saturday,Ē Nicole said before her flight to Paris.

Did you afraid of you wonít play Grandslam in Paris?
I didnít doubt about Roland Garros. But I believed on 100% I will play Strasbourg. But I withdrew just to be sure. I wanted to play in Paris so I did all for it.

You havenít played for 3 weeks. Can it rebound?
I have to be up to it. The most important is to play many training matches. I believe I will be back in form in 2 days. Iím feeling Iím playing well at the moment. So it isnít sure if it will rebound.

But you arrived at Paris with the title from Strasbourg last year. You rather withdrew from Strasbourg this year.
It isnít optimal. But Iím happy I can play that Iím healthy. I could play Berlin, Rome and Strasbourg but with pain. I had to think about it a lot. I feared it could pain me. But I donít have to afraid of it now.

It isnít usual to have 3 weeks off in season. What did you do?
It wasnít classical free time. I always prepared for next tour. I even arrived at Rome. In other way I wanted to be with my family, friends and do something at school.

And how do you go on at school?
I have to pass only Czech and economy and I will pass third year at school. I will do this two exams after French Open I couldnít do it before.

Czech? The best subject in the end?
HmÖ maybe the worstÖ (Smile) But not really I passed accounting and Math. I hope I will manage it.

Do you have any talisman for Paris?
I packed some family photos. Not teddy bear. He finished couple yrs ago.

You played in semifinal last year it was great for you. Do you often think about it?
Not yet because it was last year and your tennis career continues. But I have really great memories. But I really donít think about Paris 2006 before I go to the bed.

Is your semifinal last year your goal this year?
Definitely not. I donít try to defend it. The most important is to be healthy.

How do you manage the pressure you have to defend many points?
If I will lose in Paris early I will fall in rankings. But I can be back after Paris I can get many points elsewhere.

Did you get accustomed to be one of favourites in Grandslams?
I donít think about it a lot. I want to win all tours which I play as now. I will play for 100% I want to win the title.

For how long you packed your luggage? Till final weekend?
I always pack at least two luggage. I have 10 sets of clothes for matches. In orange I want tone with clay. Clothes for matches are 1 and Ĺ of luggage. Maybe then I try to pack some normal clothes as jeans and handbag. Itís always in this way. I have to pay for excess luggage. I paid now. Maybe I should buy second air ticket.

The draw is done at 11:30am Paris time tomorrow.

Nicole will be drawn to face seeds 25-32 in 3R which would be Safarova, V. Williams, Stosur, Santangelo, Dulko, Vakulenko, Bremond, or Muller.

In 4R she will be face to drawn seeds 9-12 which would be Chakvetadze, Safina, Petrova, Hantuchova.

Not sure what to expect of Nicole since she hasn't played in a while and coming off of an injury. Nicole could lose early (or worse - retire in match) or be fresh and ready to go and make a run into 2nd week.

Follow the draw live!
Thursday, May 24, 2007
By Guillaume Baraise

The draw for the French Open will take place at 11.30 am in the Tenniseum at Roland Garros. Fans the world over will be able to follow the event live on the official website simply by clicking on this link: the names of the players will appear as soon as they have been drawn, with the suspense building up as the draw progresses!

Click on this link

> Follow the draw live (from 11.30 am)

> Women's draw (from 12.15 am)

> Men's draw (from 12.45 am)

Seeds and qualifiers alike will be on tenterhooks, waiting to see what fate the draw has in store for them. Some mouth-watering ties are guaranteed as early the men's first round, and the draw will give Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal a clearer idea of what to expect during the opening week.

The top 32 players will be seeded, but outside of this group there are some real clay-court specialists, including Russia's Igor Andreev, local boy Paul-Henri Mathieu, Spain's Nicolas Almagro and Italy's Filipo Volandri, all of whom could be more than a match for anyone on this, their favourite surface.

In the women's draw, all eyes will be on the seeds, with Venus Williams possibly having to face a top 10 player as early as the third round. And what are the odds on her having to play her sister Serena...?

The French contingent will also be keeping a close eye on the draw for their home tournament, and with so many of them involved, some are bound to find themselves drawn against one of the favourites in the first round.

Chez les dames, on suivra surtout l'emplacement des têtes de série. Venus Williams pourrait par exemple affronter une "top 10" dès le troisième tour. Pourquoi pas sa soeur Serena...

Some of the possible 3rd round opponents are quite tough and may cause a lot of troubles (Safarova, Williams). Some are rather unpredictable (Santangelo, Stosur, Vakulenko). I would prefer Nicole drawing someone of the trio Dulko, Bremond and Muller. That should be ok (should she make it that far...).
As for the 4th round, Petrova is probably the toughest opponent, although her health is a concern.
I sincerely hope that Nicole, Lucie and Daniela will avoid each other. :tape:

This article is about equal prize money for men and women at tournaments. I am sure you remember what Nicole said about it not so long ago. There was a thread in the GM I think. In this article she says some people twisted her words. She says she doesn't agree with equal prize money at Grand Slams because men play more sets so they should earn more money. What makes her disappointed is that at other tournaments where both men and women play best of three sets prize money isn't equal. So basically she says that at Slams where women don't deserve the same money they get it, but at other tournaments they earn less than men. She finds it very ironic.

I couldn't agree more with her. It's nice to see a female player with this opinion. :)

Šafářová a Vaidišová zbrojí na Paříž (http://aktualne.centrum.cz/sport/tenis/clanek.phtml?id=431041)
This article is a summary of an interview with David Kotyza, coach of Lucie's. But he says something about Nicole too.
The first part of the article is about Lucie and her injury, which I guess doesn't need a translation because this is Nicole's forum.
The second summarizes Nicole's troubles with wrist. Kotyza says that both Nicole and Lucie were practicing on tennis grounds of Sparta Prague (accidently). According to him Nicole looked sharp and 100% fit. He adds that Nicole shouldn't have any problems to get back in form because she is mentally tough (another article that speaks about Nicole's mentality). He wouldn't like to see another Nicole vs. Lucie match unless it's a final. The main tournament favourites for him are Henin and Kuznetsova. Not Sharapova.

Q. How is it being back in Paris after last year?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No, it's great. I was really looking forward to it, you know, so a lot of nice memories from last year. The first match went well. Had some weeks off thanks to injuries, so, you know, no big expectations from myself now, no pressure. Just coming here, you know, trying to play my best, having fun.

Q. You had that epic second game. It seemed to go on forever.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, it took at least five, 10 minutes. Just to get into a rhythm, it always takes, you know, something else, practicing weeks and weeks, playing a match, a little nervous at the start. But like I said, I have, you know, no huge pressures on myself, just try to do my best here, and, you know, have fun.

Q. Can you give us an update exactly where you stand with your injury?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: For the last week and a half I've been pain‑free, so that's very good. Just tape it as a precaution to make sure it's fine. But otherwise, it's been good.

Q. And how does it affect how you play? Have you just not had enough practice to feel sort of at the top of your game or is it still bothering you?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I've been practicing for the last week and a half 100 percent, so I don't have to think anymore about the wrist, if it's gonna hurt it or not hurt it. So that's a great thing. I don't have to have it in the back of my mind.

But, yeah, of course I'm lacking some matches. But on the other hand, yeah, it gives me no pressure here. I can just surprise myself, play better than I expect to and we'll see.

Q. So you say you're not putting any pressure on yourself. Are you setting yourself any expectations like a limit, what round or ‑‑

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Not really. Like I said, I haven't played in a while and it's always tough coming back, first tournaments. So I just really want to be healthy right now. That's my main concern, being healthy, being able to play without thinking about anything else but just the game. So, yeah, I think I just can surprise myself and play better than I think.

Q. Do you know where the wrist injury came from? Do you know what caused it or might have caused it?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think just, you know, slight move, a wrong move, and then aggravating it more with play or going to clay courts, a little more spin, having to, you know, move your wrist around a little bit more. But I don't think it was one shot or one big movement, so just a little stretch, a little fracture there.

Q. A little fracture there?
NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No, no, no, a little stretch there, not fracture, just a pulled tendon or something like that.

Saw most of Nicole's match (bar the ending) before work this morning. Definately some rust she was shaking off in the first set. So happy she says her wrist isn't a problem anymore, I was worried. Tendonitis is so hard to heal.

Tomorrow's match could be very interesting, but I would like to think Nicole has more experience at this level that her opponent. And with Petrova out, Nicole has a big chance to make the quarters!

I thought it was a pretty scrappy match, it was really dominated by both girls' serve.

This is the first time I've seen Nikki play this year @ Roland Garros, and to be honest I thought she'd be playing a bit better. I know that she's had barely any matchplay, but still I found the backhand to be extremely erratic.

Luckily for her she's got Garbin in R4, which means she'll probably have another match to really get her game going, before the probable Quarter Final against Jelena.

I saw a little of Nicole's opening round match and she does seem to rusty, particularly off her backhand.
But 10 aces on clay against someone as dangerous as Stosur is a good sign. I feel that when Nicole is serving well, she's getting her rhythm back and her overall game will improve. Hopefully she gets a little better in her next match and can attempt the defense of her semifinal. :)

This was in today's USA Today. Thought you Nicole fans would like to see it.

Postcard from Paris: Nicole Vaidisova

Nicole Vaidisova, 18, has six career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles but none in 2007. Vaidisova, who is from the Czech Republic but did much of her training in the USA, has become a fixture in the top 10. She's ranked 10th but reached a career-high No. 7 on May 14. Vaidisova's goal coming in was to get through the early rounds. So far so good: She has two straight-set victories this week and will face Samantha Stosur of Australia in a third-round match Friday. She talked with USA TODAY about the challenge of Paris in an e-mail interview:
"The start of my season has been great. I played well in Sydney and the Aussie Open. Reaching another semifinal of a Grand Slam gave me a lot of confidence. Ö The last three weeks have been a bit frustrating as I injured my wrist a little.

"I still have the feeling I can improve everything. But some specific things are: coming in more, moving better and gaining overall experience.

"Paris is a great city that is very diverse and has some great restaurants, museums and shopping. During the tournament, it is very difficult for me to do anything as I mainly focus on the (French Open). Over the years I have done all the tourist attractions though.

"The French Open crowd is great. They have a great knowledge of the game of tennis.

"The weather can be a bit challenging. Going off and on with rain delays is something that often happens and is not always easy (only one day so far has been free of rain and delays).

"I am a pretty aggressive player. I like to attack. I like to take the initiative. On the clay, I play with a bit more patience. Ö I cannot take as much risk, although I still like to attack."

Some pretty bad UEs in this match (from both players), but a very solid performance on serve from Nicole. Hope she can keep it up. :yeah:

This was in today's USA Today. Thought you Nicole fans would like to see it.

Postcard from Paris: Nicole Vaidisova

[...]

"The French Open crowd is great. They have a great knowledge of the game of tennis.

They also have a very short fuse and seem to enjoy booing players as much as cheering them. Nicole better watch her temper if she doesn't want a repeat of last year's tear-filled "incident". :tape:
