This is her 5th QF in 7 tournaments so far this year.

It's fair to say that her draws weren't the strongest. Beating Dementieva, Hantuchova and Ivanovic is a good accomplishment but besides that she hasn't had a good results against high seeded opponents. Match against Janko will tell us more, I really don't think Bartoli has a chance here.

Very impressive showing by Nicole. :clap2: She really played a nice smart match today. It`s great to see her make another deep grand slam run. :) However it`s going to get much tougher though in the next match, likely against Jelena, unless Bartoli can pull off a miracle. Still i`m very pleased with Nikki`s performance to date in Roland Garros. :yeah:

She played so much better than what she did against Stosur. Everything in her game is coming together at the right time.

She's in with a shot against Jelena. I just hope whoever wins goes onto reach the final.

Q. This is more like Florida today. It probably feels pretty good. I know you'd probably like to get your first service percentage up a little bit, but the new motion, the new service motion, you look very comfortable with it. Is it as comfortable as it looks?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, definitely, I choose it, yeah. The last year, I had some problems with my shoulder and just sat down with my physio and everybody to make it less stressful on the shoulder as possible. So I think it's working out well. I have the same speed, the same percentage, and it's not bothering me, and I haven't had problems with my shoulder since.

Q. David Hogarth, who's one of the best trainers in women's tennis, what sort of program has he designed for you to increase particularly your side-to-side speed?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I mean, he knows me better than anybody, physically, you know. It's like we've been working together for years and years, and he knows what I need and I think he's very good at keeping it interesting also for me, not just boring, side-to-side movements, runs, but something I actually like, also. It's fun. It's more fun, so I think he's been very good at that.

Q. Do you feel quicker moving side to side now?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think especially today I had no really huge problems getting to the side. I think I was faster than she was, you know, sliding on the clay, also. So I feel like I'm getting better on clay. For some people, it's a tough surface, but I like playing on it.

Q. You're a year older now than when you reached the semis here last year. Your game, you look like you're more of a grinder now; you're less looking to pull the trigger as you used to. Is that just coming with the maturity of being an 18-year-old tennis player rather than 17?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I mean, I definitely try to learn from each year. So, you know, that's something I have to work on. It's, for me, typically, I go for a lot of shots. But on clay, I'm trying to wait for a little bit, put the ball in play more and not hit it as much, you know, to make mistakes.

So, yeah, I think I've been working on it, and it's been doing well.

Q. Is there a way of describing how meticulous your father is in coaching you?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, the advantage with him is he's my father, so he knows me better than any coach ever will and would. And he's very patient. He has more amount of patience. With me, that's definitely important.

So he gives it his all. He definitely gives it his all. I think what he's done so far definitely has been very good. I trust him in everything he does.

Q. Sometimes these parent/child relationships don't work out as to coaching, because sometimes you have to make a distinction between father and coach. How do you balance that?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think we are doing it good. We don't spend all the time together. You know, when we get back from the courts, I do my own thing; he does his own thing; we meet for dinner, maybe not. We do our own thing.

He's very different. He's very quiet. He doesn't talk as much, and I'm very loud, very out there. So I think we balance out each other like that. Throughout the years we kind of figured a way to get it balanced more and work with each other, not against each other.

Q. If it's Jelena Jankovic in the next round, big "if" there, what have you learned in the last year that would make this go the other way as opposed to the US Open match?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I mean, for me here, I'm just definitely under no pressure to play, because I haven't played in a while. This is my first, you know, match after almost a month. So I'm just really enjoying being on court, being able to hit it as well as I did and having no pain, you know. Don't worry if my wrist hurts or not, just being out there.

She's been playing great lately. She's won Rome already; she's in front of the world. She's a great player, definitely playing great lately. If I play her, I'm definitely looking just for a great match and having fun out there.

But didn't she defend all of her points ?
I read on Masha's official website that this year it changed. When Nicole reached QF she defended her SF points (also, if Maria reach the final of the US Open, she will defend her title)

Vaidisova had 23 forehand winners to two for Jankovic, but also had more unforced errors — 42-20.

"Today was not a match where I could just keep the ball in play. I had to go for the shots," Vaidisova said. "Her second serve is not as strong. It's her weakness, so you have to go for it."

Jankovic converted all three of her breakpoint chances, while Vaidisova's aggressive approach didn't pay off.

"I definitely had my possibilities for sure. Almost every game on her serve I had break points," Vaidisova said. "I just didn't make those. She's a tough girl and she fights."

Jankovic will play either two-time defending champion Justine Henin or eight-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the semifinals. They met later Tuesday in a rematch of their contentious 2003 semifinal in Paris.

Q. Nicole, a lot of academy people today. You went to Bollettieri, so you know each other very well. Was there a little tension on the court at all between you?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No, because she's not there at the academy for the last three, four years. So we haven't hung out together, worked out or played together. So we don't know each other much. We just bump into each other in the locker room and that's it. So no, no tension at all.

Q. You really went after her serve today, and I guess that's where you have to attack her. And you had some success and you had some wild shots, too. But overall, you're right there at the end of the thing. Was it the right strategy today?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, I mean, her second serve is not as strong. There's a little weakness, so you have to work for it, set up the point, and I was trying that the whole match.

Q. From what you've seen, can anyone beat Jankovic?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah.

Q. Who can?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I don't know. Who is she playing next?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I mean, I definitely had my opportunities, for sure. I definitely feel it's a little bit of lack of matches. Today some opportunities. But, I mean, almost every game on her serve game, I had breakpoints. And, you know, I just didn't make those.

But overall, I played a pretty good match, solid match, second set, especially. But she played tough. She's a tough girl, she fights and more credit to her.

Q. Ivanovic won today as well, and Djokovic is doing well. Do you think there is some kind of momentum building here for the Serbians in tennis?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: There's two of them right now in the draw. I mean, I've known Ana for a while; she's a great player, very good player. So, you know, she's doing well. I'm not really watching Djokovic. I think I've seen him play once or twice, so, no, I think she's doing very well, yeah.

Q. You've got everything except maybe a little bit of consistency that you need to take over that next step. How do you deal with the consistency problem?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I don't think I have that problem. I think I proved in my other matches I have that. But today was not a match where I could just keep the ball in play.

You know, that's what she does. She does it very well. And I knew I had to go for shots. If I missed a couple of them, well, that's the game.

Q. Would you say you're happy with the tournament? You came in and said a few injury problems, you didn't have many expectations, you'd go as far as you'd go. Are you going to look back and say actually, I could have gone a lot further, and I'm really quite upset?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I could always say that I could have gone further. But I'm happy the way I played. Of course, right now I'm disappointed I lost. I had my chances. Maybe it could have been a lot different.

But overall I'm, you know, pretty happy with the way it went, and just looking forward to playing now on grass, so it's going to be exciting.

Q. You said that your plan was to attack on her second serve particularly. But don't you think she served much better than expected?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, I played her before, so I've seen her serve, and it slows down a little bit on clay. But her second serve was a little bit of her weakness, I think. I mean, tough points, she served pretty well, yeah. I had a lot of breakpoints, she served very well, that's true.

Q. She had something like 70% of first serves in.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Well, yeah, she has a good percentage, that's true.

Q. A few words about fighting off four match points in this match, and what that means to you. Of course, you didn't win and that's disappointing, but to fight through four match points before losing it, what does that say about your guts and your abilities to stay on the court and fight?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think just that I didn't want to lose. I mean, I really do play till the last point and don't give up. So, I tried and fought till the end.

Q. What grass court tournaments are you going to play?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Probably Eastbourne.

Q. Eastbourne?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yes, probably.

Q. Who do you favor between Ivanovic and Jankovic? Can you assess their games or which one do you is strong or has greater potential?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: They play each other?

Q. No.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: They're both very different players. Jelena tries to more keep it in play; Ana goes more for the shots. So I think they're very different players, but both in different ways, very good. I mean, they're proving it that they can play very well. They're both in the semifinals here, so it's a big achievement, for sure.

I'm not really disappointed now. Nicole managed to make the quarters of another slam (even if her draw may not have been the hardest) coming off from an injury and not having played a lot.

She hadn't played anyone of Jelena's level in a while so it was gonna be a tough task for her to come out with the win today. Nicole still gave her a good fight though (in the 2nd set at least).

I'm also glad that her wrist seems to have held up OK.

2 weeks until Nicole's next tournament if she plays Eastbourne.

Now for the rest of the year Nicole's 2006 SF in San Diego and Moscow are her biggest points to defend - both 135 points. No more 300-400 points from one tournament.

She reached the 4r and 3r at the remaining slams last year. So hopefully will add onto her ranking this summer and fall with more good results...

A bit late, but so-called "real life" got in the way... ;)

I saw pretty much the entire match, and once again it was the mental lapses more than anything else that cost her the win. Very competitive match, but too many squandered opportunities. She was able to put pressure on Jankovic's service games throughout the match, but only managed to break her at the end of the 2nd set, with her back to the wall. She served well most of the time, but a couple of very bad patches (like in the middle of the 1st set, 2 or 3 double faults, broken at love) proved decisive in the end. Saving all those match points was impressive, but it was too little too late.

Of course, some (most?) of it can be attributed to Nicole's lack of preparation. But I'm still not entirely convinced she's as strong as she needs to be mentally to take her game to the next level.

Overall, she did well, beating everyone she was supposed to beat, and I'm glad the wrist wasn't a factor. Looking forward to the grass season. :)

Nicole Vaidisova could have been arrested for assault on Tuesday at Roland Garros if the balls had pressed charges. The closer she got to defeat against Jelena Jankovic, the more violently she played. Her forehands were not hit but detonated, and there was something beautiful to her unshakeable faith in technique that allowed for a full, furious, liberating swing.

I remember the commentators were saying during the match Nicole was acting like a junior player and she'll need to watch the match to realize how badly she was acting  It's quite true, Nicole has not matured yet when she's playing someone who doesn't give her the ball like she wants and push her to play more than three shots.Considering the fact she doesn't play since Miami at the top level, it looks like she was a little bit rusty at the break points she had. But, I'm impressed, especially by the last four games of this match.

And for those who's saying Nicole hits very hard, I always thought Safarova was hitting way harder than Nicole when I saw the both players but ok, It's already a year ago now and she looks more powerful since the beginning of the year

Personnally I think the same way as the commentator did. It's true that the BIG BIG problem of Nicole is her nerves. I think that the day that she will have the capacity of keeping her mental in a BIG tournament no doubt she will make it far up in the top 5. This was pretty flagrant in Rolland Garros where she really was  gesticulating, talking and quarreling:mad: on the court in opposition to a very  calm Jankovic who just played her game ! She gotta take example on a Federer when in some tournaments it isn't at all his day and he can't put a ball inside stays calm and try to get back his tennis along the match ; and he does ! Their's no doubt that Nicole tennis is 10 times better in the power domain than Jankovic, she can quite overpower anyone:eek: . She has indeed a Sharapova like tennis : powerfull serve, great forehand and backhand with the disadvantage of lacking in the volley's part. She's quite young and she has a BIG BIG BIG margin of progression. :worship: Having 17 and allready done n°8 is a sign of very high potential with Nicole's game. :worship: She just needs that one thing to crack the top 5. :bounce: Happily when she matures a bit and starts rocking up some big tournaments ! Why not start by WImbledon '07 ?:bounce:

:fiery: Us open is Masha's domain : Don't touch !:fiery:
:fiery: Amelia Island is Tati's property : Don't touch !:fiery:
:fiery: Rolland Garros is Justine's property : Don't touch !:fiery:
:fiery: Wimbledon is anyone's property but certainly not Mauresmo's !:fiery:

This is just the way she is ! it's her character and we have to accept her like that ! and of course she's young and she will have the time to learn to be less nervous on the court but we have to stop asking her to act in a different way. ;)
And personally I love her the way she is and I don't want her to change anything
