Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to obtain a new IP address for a Mac?

Thanks.

try unplugging your modem for a few minutes if you're on cable

Really? That would do the trick?

I thought there was a methodical process...

it should work... you might need to leave it off for 15 min or so

if that doens't do it, google how to release an IP for mac OS

So are you saying that everytime my internet cable wire is disconnected from my computer, the IP address always changes when I connect it again?

it depends how long it's been disconnected.

Well whenever you shut a computer off after you have used it... I mean that happens like practically every now and then.

well generally, the modem is left on so only if you unplug or power down the cable modem

You should try what Sally suggests. It may take as little as 30 seconds of being offline for you to be given a new IP address when you reconnect.

This will tell you what your IP address is so you can test if it works and how long it takes:

Some people have static IP addresses which don't change. Others have dynamic IP addresses which change every time they connect.
