I see Alicia's on the entry list for Strasbourg, so hopefully she's fit and well. Does anyone know for sure why she hasn't played in the last coupla weeks?

She was back in Melbourne the last I heard - resting over the clay season because she's been playing since January. I haven't heard anything about her being injured - I think she was just taking a break?

yeah she left Australia at the end of the Australian summer circuit and has been on the road overseas playing ever since. after fed cup she has just been in australia resting/catching up with friends and family and practising i assume.

Yeah, she's just been taking a break because she was away from home for 11 weeks straight, so she took a couple off. Good Luck lish!

Kewl. She has played a fairly long stretch. Be nice to see her with batteries fully recharged in Strasbourg (and more importantly for the important seven week stint to follow.

Let's hope she gets a reasonable draw (or, refreshed, demolishes Mauresmo in the first round!) :)

Smart of Lish to take a breather after playing so many events. hope it has done her some good & that she is prepared to take on the field in strasbourg. a 1st round win would satisfy me enough.

Alicia Molik has been drawn to play a Qualifier/Lucky Loser in the first round of the Strasbourg International. Should she win, Alicia will most likely face 6th seed, Anabel Medina Garrigues, a tough player she beat in Indian Wells earlier this year.

ALL THE BEST LISH!! :bounce:

That's the best possible draw that Alicia could receive! All though I know that the qualies will probably be really strong. AMG could be tough for Alicia to beat on clay.

Anabel is in good form too... and clay is probably her best surface. good luck alicia ill be happy with a first round win at least too.. hopefully she has been working on that serve because her 1st serve percentage has let her down during some matches so far this year. good luck alicia!

I think it will be tough for Alicia considering she hasn't played for a while, i just hope she can go well against the qualifier

Ben.
May 20th, 2007, 06:41 AM
lish has a good draw to reach the quarters :) medina garrigues will be tough but lish should do okay. I reckon all that rest & recovery for her should help to win a match or two in strasbourg.

Yeah, pretty good draw for Alicia, just hope she doesn't face Casey in the first round, that'd suck.

Alicia has drawn Lucky Loser, Leeanne Baker... should be a very easy win for Alicia, even if she is not playing too well. Maybe a 6/3 6/1 win?

At least this week is a no-lose week for her - with just 1pt to defend, she'll get at least 19 for demolishing Baker. Then anything else would be a bonus.

She'd have to have a helpful draw or a bit of a form-reversal to match her R3 from last year's French though, so will possibly lose points in a fortnight.

Then again, it looks like she'll play Surbiton in the second week of the French, so could make up any deficit.

After the French (apart from a R2 Wimbledon result), she has absolutely no points to defend until after the US Open. This is where she could really make another push into the Top 20.

Yeah this is a great draw for Alicia, and to be honest I would be impressed if Leanne got 4 games off Alicia.....the only thing Alicia will have to watch out for is Leannes serve. She has a great lefty out-wide serve and served 15 aces in her qualifying match. Good luck Alicia!!

PS. no of offence to Leanne, I love her!

GeeTee

With Leanne winning the first eight points of the game, and Alicia struggling to hold serve, you'd have to say she's a bit scratchy...

It definately wasn't pretty but Alicia beat Leanne Maker 7/6(3) 2/6 7/6(5).

Ben.
May 22nd, 2007, 02:23 PM
lish really had to work hard there for her victory, could improve on her serving percentages. but she's through to the next round so thats what really matters.

maybe its good that she had a tough match to get her match alert.

Harvs
May 22nd, 2007, 11:29 PM
Well, I can hardly see Alicia beating Medina Garrigues after playing like that...

Alicia does lead 3-0 in H2H (including a three set win this year at Indian Wells) but they were all on hard court. It will be a totally different story today.

At least Molik had two "warmup" matches yesterday with the sinles and the doubs... LETS GO LEASH!

miss_molik
May 23rd, 2007, 07:57 AM
Hopefully she plays better next match

medina G is in pretty good form and its on clay and alicia struggled yesterday BUT i still believe in alicia.... come on alicia!

GeeTee
May 23rd, 2007, 09:41 AM
It looked like a shocker, but Baker was serving at a very high percentage - 100% of first serves in for a couple of games and over 80% for most of the first set. Hard to do much against that kind of pressure early on, especially when your own serve must be a bit rusty.

I know that protennislive can produce some weird stats at times, but I was watching scores closely and they seemed to be consistent, at least for the first set scores.

Baker also returned well against Alicia, who wasn't serving anywhere near the Kiwi's percentage. She had Molik 40-0 down in a very long second game, before Alicia managed to claw her way back. I think it was a good match in the end.

Alicia, like us, might have figured on a fairly comfortable warm-up game - might make her pull her socks up before she tackles the solid but unspectacular Garrigues. There isn't much better way of getting match play than three tight sets.

medina g doesnt have any weapons,,, unless consistency counts for a weapon lol. but alicia will need to keep her UEs down, move/defend well and if she serves well shes defo in with a chance
