CW network cancels 'Veronica Mars'

The CW network canceled the cult hit "Veronica Mars" and will try to pick up steam in its second year with series about the snobby rich, transplanted families and a bounty hunter for the devil.

The network, created out of the ashes of the former WB and UPN, had already ended the long-running family dramas "7th Heaven" and "Gilmore Girls." On Thursday the ax fell on "Veronica Mars," which starred Kristen Bell as a wisecracking teenage private eye.

Corporate parents CBS Corp. and Time Warner Inc. had hoped the CW could become a fifth major network by combining the best of its predecessors, but it has often slipped behind Univision in the ratings during a disappointing first year.

The new "Gossip Girl," about a group of prep school teenagers in Manhattan, will be given the biggest push. The CW scheduled it for Wednesdays at 9 p.m. after its top-rated program, "America's Next Top Model."

The CW's only new comedy, "Aliens in America," is about a high school student trying to adjust to a Pakistani exchange student. "Life is Wild" is a drama about a New York City family spending a year at a game reserve in South Africa.

The new drama "Reaper" features one of the CW's oldest new characters: a 21-year-old. His parents sold his soul to the devil and he's assigned to track down evil escapees from hell.

On Sunday nights, the network will debut "The CW Now," an entertainment-oriented newsmagazine for 18-to-34-year-olds. "Online Nation" will talk about what's hot on the Web.

In midseason, the CW will bring on a reality show, "Farmer Wants a Wife," about a country guy choosing among 10 women fed up with big-city prospects.

Fox will also release its fall schedule on Thursday.

and the new ones in the article sound... :help:  :tape:

Thank God it was awful sick of having to change the channel every time it comes on living TV! The Gilmore girls was horrendous too...the actresses were like ironing boards, so stiff...too much starch in american tv today!

May 17th, 2007, 07:47 PM
Their new shows sound awful!

May 17th, 2007, 07:53 PM
What a shame! :(

Now it's official! I am done with CW!

Obviously people are still watching many shows on the CW unfortunately Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars have lost viewership. I think both shows have run their course and the new CW schedule has basically confused fans of those shows. :o

damnit this shit is really pissing me off and oh LAWD!!!!!!!! what the hell type of new shows are they making

May 18th, 2007, 02:06 PM
I thought they were going to delay the decision on VM for a little bit. Might go to see if other articles can confirm. I wouldn't be surprised though, it's been rumored for the axe for ages.

CW are looking crap without GG and VM.

Just looking around, it does look official. I'm not happy :fiery:

I`m very sad and angry about this.  The CW is making a big mistake cancelling a quality show that has a nice cult audience like Veronica Mars. The CW sucks ass!

I'm angry they have pushed One Tree Hill to be a MIDSEASON show. I mean WHAT!? That's horrible, not enjoying this at all.

yeah, true. But look at some of the crap they seem to have next season. Nothing really interests me from them at all.

Plus, with all the rumors that whether it's coming back, whether they will change the series to keep it on the air, it seemed all a bit silly.

Wish, they would of made a final 4th season at least with 13 eps.

I think America's Next Top Model is a good show  !

Mar 24th, 2013, 01:32 AM
Truly one of the better shows in recent years, glad to see it coming back.

Mar 24th, 2013, 02:11 AM
Didn't watch it when it originally aired but then rented the whole series from Netflix and LOVED IT!! Such a smart well-written show! :hearts:

Mar 24th, 2013, 02:39 AM
Veronica and Logan are one of my all time favourite TV couples. :hearts: And I didn't even religiously watch the show, they were just a bad-ass couple compared to the shite we're used to on TV.

Mar 24th, 2013, 05:07 AM
Donated 10 dollars myself last week. Definitely one of my favourite shows ever. Absolutely thrilled with the recent news :) :) :)

Mar 16th, 2014, 06:40 AM

Mar 16th, 2014, 08:09 AM
I watched the trailer yesterday. Loved it, the whole old cast is there :D

Mar 16th, 2014, 09:29 AM
You mean it was still going? I thought it had ended centuries ago  Anyway didn't they just do a movie?

That's what I said

Mar 16th, 2014, 01:38 PM
Can't wait to see the movie sometime this week. :cheer: I hope it's decent at least.

Mar 16th, 2014, 01:40 PM
Well it's alright. I think we all got the ending we were hoping for..but I think it feels quite bloated.
Plot wise it's great but there's some plot B stories that just waffled on, and just some random cameo appearances from previous cast members which didn't add any value whatsoever (and you'll notice it like a sore thumb).

Veronica Mars pulls in 1 million so far at the box office :cheer:

So far it's doing very well >>>

"Rob Thomasí Veronica Marsí Kickstarter experiment is kicking it on per screen average with an estimated $7,575 per screen, higher than everything but Wes Andersonís The Grand Budapest Hotel which is just kicking up a storm again as it expands for Fox Searchlight. "

Mar 16th, 2014, 06:13 PM
i enjoyed it!

i was angry about weevil's story. but everything else was great. not an awesome standalone movie probably but nice closure to the series which we never got.

one thing i didn't like was the james franco cameo. this guy has to be in every fucking "cool" thing.

Mar 18th, 2014, 01:35 PM
I loved Veronica Mars.
