Fading Finish: 'idol' Ratings Drop 8% In Week... 14.7 Rating/23 Share For Fox Show, Down From Last Tuesday's 15.5/25... Show Has Lost Ratings From Week-to-week For Last 3 Outings...

(Mother Marjorie Note: Never cared much about American Idol. It just always seemed like a bastardized Star Search with a technological twist. Nothing more. Nothing less. It just created another excuse for people to sit in front of their television and get fat, vicariously living through the dreams of others. Perhaps not.)

Well if this drop is being compared to the big IDOL show three weeks ago, then it is expected.

Is this a surprise, really? As contestants get voted off, their loyal fanbase could care less about the show. So after the Idol Gives Back show (which was huge in ratings because it was a special show) there were TWO contestants who went home, that is a lot of people who quit tuning in because their favorite was gone. Then Lakisha goes, and I am sure she had a ton of fans who now don't really care. I would imagine that this happens every season as people get eliminated.

If you look at the history of TV, nothing stays dominant forever. I mean if you look at TV by time period.... everytype of show dominates at one point.

60's Rural sitcoms dominated the ratings (ie Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith)
70's Controversial sitcoms rule the ariwaves (All In the Family, Good Times, Sanford and Son, Three's Company, Maude)
Early 80's, dramas and late night soap operas ruled the airwaves (Dallas, Dynasty, Knot's Landing, Miami Vice)
Mid 80's to early 90's family sitcoms reignited the interest in sitcoms (The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss, Family Matters)
Mid 90's to early 00's, city based sitcoms as well as medical and legal dramas lead the way (ie Friends, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, Law & Order series, CSI series...)
Early 00's to present, REALITY, REALITY, REALITY (ie Survivor, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Skating with Start blah blah)

So possibly could the reality wave be dying down, with it's flagship American Idol (#1 for the last 3 years) going down in public interest? Hopefully so, I personally would love for the sitcom genre to make a big comeback. Currently there is only ONE sitcom (Two and a Half Men) ranked in the top 20. When at one time NBC's whole entire Thursday night line up from 8:00pm-10:00pm regularly lodged in the top 10. True there are shows like Desperate Housewifes, but IMO that is more of a dramedy rather than a sitcom taped in front of a live audience.

My biggest problem right now if that I'm only interested in last few minutes, so I don't want to waste 55 minutes watching recaps and stuff when I'm only interested in who's leaving.

Personally, I think the show has jumped the shark. It jumped when Taylor Hicks won. I personally thought he was cute, but he can't really sing and is goofy-looking. The fact that people are starting to screw with the show to keep Sanjaya on means people really aren't interested in watching it for talent or performances anymore, whereas the first 3 years or so, that was the main element. I think it's just getting old.

It's the judges fault for letting in a Sanjaya and Taylor Hicks; even the girl that nude pictures where exposed on the internet. It took only the once of hearing them sing an entire song to realize that they can't sing. They let so many people who had more singing ability go for these 3 jokers. so the judges are at fault.

I still can't believe they haven't done an "America's Next Porn Star" kind of reality show, even if it had to be on a premium network like HBO. It can't get much more degrading than that.

Can you imagine the challenges? Thirteen women line up to give one of the judges (probably a male porn star) a blow job, then they send one of the women home for improper technique or teething...the sad part is that MILLIONS of people would watch that shit, largely in part to the controversy.

If you ever watched the Lisa Kudrow HBO series "The Comeback," they are at the network premier for the new shows of the season, and they actually introduce a show "America's Next Porn Star" with clips of women talking about why they want to be a porn star, one was doing while putting her baby in a mini-van. One of the "challenges" was taking a mouthful of eggwhites and having to run up 6 flights of stairs and then spit it all out. It was hilarious!

I would definitely watch America's Next Porn Star. Blowjob week would be SOOO much better than watching Tony Bennett night!
