It's done.

Sarkozy is in.

Boy,France does this thing fast.

Elect in November...wait months to swear the new person in.
Oh well, it works okay I guess for bigger USA.

What is Europe expecting of Sarkozy?

He seems far more charming and personable than Gordon Brown.
That isn't necessarily leadership, but, it doesn't hurt.
Will the traditionally bad blood between Chirac and Blair,
France and UK, get a new chance with Brown and Sarkozy?

I hope so.

The EU?
Will he make a big difference?
Chirac seemed to try to yield a great deal of control over it.
Snippy comments about new Eastern European nations, etc.

As far as USA goes...pretty much anyone was better than Chirac at this point.
The Security Council antics of France, under the table deals, etc., did not
go over well with Congress or the public. At least talk to each other
better...that would be a nice first step.

A lot of good. Much better policies then Chirac. On the int. level he will be closer to U.S. He will also chum up to Britain, a nation that he looks up to. He wants to cut down the power of the labor unions. He won't be as successful as Thatcher but he will still implement some reforms as well as being realistic in what he can do.

I won't finish this text without talking about Sego. She started her campaign well by praising Blair and hinting she wanted to pursue the same path as him. But then she got influenced by the hard left and she veered down the hard left path. Only when Bayrou broke through in 1st sound did she say that she was a moderate. But when she had her debate with Sarko she was showing a lot of anger.
