Latisha is one of the most promising young tennis star in Taiwan. She has improved her WAT singles ranking from #96 to current #52 at the age of 17. I just would like to start a new thred for Latisha. We will see more of her in the near future. The other young Taiwanese tennis star to watch is the 15 years old Kai-Chen Chang. She is currently ranked #544. Her best performance was to reach semi before losing to Latisha at $75K Kao-hsiung in Taiwan last November. She has been trainning in FL ever since. Her upcoming pro tourny will be at 25k Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA. We will see how she does in that tournament. Very exciting for Taiwanese tennis.

Go Yung-Jan and Kai-Chen!!!:bounce:

Unforyunately, Kai Chen lost in qualifying 2nd round in 3 sets at Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA. That's ok. She is only 15 years old and I wish that the loss would have been a good experience for her. :)

Yung-Jan said yesterday that her goal is to be top 40 by the end of July and win couple rounds both at French and Wimbledon. We will have to see how she does at these 2 slams. BTW, she is preparing for Istanbul next week. :)))

Yung-Jan might be missing seeding opportunity at Istanbul next week after Maria Sharapova entered the tournament. What a bummer!! :((

Latisha

Latisha

Latisha just left a message to her website praising her doubles final opponents, who played really well and were very talented. She also said that she and Sania could have played better if they were used to the new doubles system ( no adv on deuce ). She is very optimistic for the French. She also said that she has been practicing with Ai Sugiyama in Paris. What a wonderful opportunity for her to lear from Ai.

What a good fight for Yung-Jan in the 2nd set. Yung-Jan really pushed Sharapova to grunt even louder . I was really impressed with her double-handed backhand. Her backhand was powerful and accurate. Her footworks has improved since I saw her last time. However, Yung-Jan's serve is still the weakness of her games, particularly the second serve. It gave Sharapova lots of cheap points. It's so critical to improve her serve if she wants to beat these power houses.

Longtime ESPN COmmentator Cliff Drysdale was impressed by YJ and predicted on air that she'll be in the top 25 by the end of next year and the top ten by the time she's 20! I was surprised, but he really liked her.

Wow!! Really? Did you watch that on espn? I'm glad that Cliff likes her chances so much in the future. Maybe he should train her in his academy. :)

Yung-Jan withdrew from her single match today at Fed Cup. She said on her webiste that she is not feeling well and has not recovered from the cold she got at Wimbledon. She also said that she flew back to Taiwan after Wimbledon for one day stay and flew to Split, Croatia ( Fed Cup) the very next day from Taiwan. Wow!! That was at least 48 hours flight in 3 days. What a strange schedule for Latisha.
