Third match could already be against Ivanovic  First rounds shouldn't be a problem...

May 13th, 2007, 06:51 PM
The top half has Amelie Serena Nadia Jelena.
Sveta has a good draw.
She's coming off a very tough week in Berlin. Almost a great week.

May 13th, 2007, 10:13 PM
Jolly good show, Sveta making the final in Berlin. And good that she finally beat Justine, that should give her confidence. Pity that Ana was a bridge too far. Hopefully Sveta can get some rest over the next couple of days - chances are she won't have to play her first match in Rome till Wednesday. And we're all hoping, aren't we, that this week she'll go one better, and capture the Rome title. That would be oh so good. Could be playing Ana Ivanovic again in the quarters...

May 13th, 2007, 10:46 PM
Sveta is supposed to be in Rome tomorrow for media day. She's scheduled in between Mauresmo and Jankovic.
At 12.00 there will be Serena Williams, 12:30 Amelie Mauresmo, 13.00 Svetlana Kuznetsova and last at 13.30 Jelena Jankovic...
Then she should get some sleep, rest up. She got 300 points in Berlin, and now trails the #2 by 500 points.
A big week here will have her right there, and Sharapova has a lot to defend the rest of the year.
After RG, Sveta doesn't have nearly as much to defend.

May 14th, 2007, 06:19 PM
To see her on the 2 would just be a great feeling! But I think she really has good chances. She's so constant in this year :)

Sveta is in great form now. She just beat Nadia and Justine on red clay.
I think she'll be a force this week.

I guess Sveta is still tired after her exertions last week in Berlin, so no wonder Mara thought she had a chance of victory. I'm glad Sveta pulled it off in straight sets. I hope she's managed to rest a bit since Sunday.

Would be good if she does get to no. 2 soon - then she can start aiming at no. 1!!! Lots of points to defend at Roland Garros but then not so many after that as last year she lost QF Eastbourne and 3rd round Wimbledon (and then didn't compete for five weeks), so who knows....

May 17th, 2007, 01:24 AM
If Sveta holds her current and stays healthy, she'll make a run for #1.

Number two seed Svetlana Kuznetsova took down Italy's Mara Santangelo 63 63 without excessive effort on Wednesday, setting up a third round clash with lucky loser Yuliana Fedak.
Russian Svetlana, who came runner up in the Berlin Open last week, looked solid from the baseline and expressed satisfaction with her form after the match.
"I'm playing some good tennis but I need time to rest as I have had some injuries," she said. "I will have to stay focused on every match."
In the first set she served two aces to lead 31. When her Italian opponent double faulted to 14 it looked as if the match would be a walkover, but Santagelo nevertheless managed to rally back to 43 by hitting the lines with a series of groundstrokes.
The story was similar in the second set. Kuznetsova, a player who has come a long way thanks more to hard work than natural talent, accelerated to 51 before Santagelo again managed a two-game rally thanks this time to some good serving.
The Russian finished the match with an ace and could meet Dinara Safina in the quarters.

Did she? I'm a week behind in my tennis-watching. I just
got copies of last week's matches (am in the middle of
watching the match against Henin.)

I love watching Sveta on clay.

May 19th, 2007, 08:46 PM
Sveta is really making awesome use of her draw :D

May 19th, 2007, 11:26 PM
Sveta has won all her matches in Rome so far in straight sets. Also I notice she doesn't seem to be playing doubles this week. This should mean she'll arrive at tomorrow's final a lot fresher than she did last week, and hopefully this means SHE'LL WIN!!
Just slightly concerned at the bandage around her left arm just below the elbow, hopefully this is just precautionary and doesn't point to anything that will affect her chances against Jankovic.

May 19th, 2007, 11:54 PM
Sveta is playing really well now. I'd like her to get this win so she can enjoy the week before RG.

May 20th, 2007, 02:01 PM
Sveta has 492 points coming off from Paris, so she can use the full 430 in Rome. She gets 300 if she doesn't win this.

May 20th, 2007, 03:56 PM
Sveta lost the first set 5-7,now she has to win the other 2 to win it...

May 20th, 2007, 03:58 PM
I think it's great that even if she won't defend her RG final, she will not lose so many points because of her great results before :)

Come on Sveta. Take the title home today! :hearts:

May 20th, 2007, 04:16 PM
It was 5-5, then Jankovic took over, 57 14 now

May 20th, 2007, 04:17 PM
She's 1-4 down,she won't win today :bigcry:

May 20th, 2007, 04:24 PM
This one wasn't close like Berlin 57 16

May 20th, 2007, 04:26 PM
Is she injured? Did anyone see the match?

May 20th, 2007, 04:28 PM
Svetlana :bigcry: :help:
Wonderful two weeks, though you didn't won a title :(
I will forgive you about that, if you will take the FO :p :D

May 20th, 2007, 04:32 PM
I didn't see the match,it will be on later here but I'm not sure I want to watch it  :o but I also think something might have happened to her to fall apart this way :help:

May 20th, 2007, 05:51 PM
Yeah, 1-6 seems very strange. She was all taped up in the photos
from the previous couple of matches.

May 20th, 2007, 11:00 PM
I'm no good at playing tennis myself (I'm just an avid fan); running is my sport. Today I entered a local 10km race and came 2nd. This places me in such illustrious company today as Rafael Nadal and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Naturally I'm hoping that Sveta can go one better in Paris. Then she'll only be a few hundred points away from being world no. 1.

I presume Sveta is taking a week off now, before RG. Time to re-charge her batteries and some gentle training. Yes it was a shame she seemed to fall apart today. Held serve just twice out of ten attempts, I heard.

May 20th, 2007, 11:25 PM
The last 2 weeks weren't bad. 600 points, she beat Justine.
Now she has to get to another final, this time in Paris. Then win this one.

May 20th, 2007, 11:36 PM
The last two weeks were great--we're just demanding and want more from
our girl. (I'm sure Sveta wants more as well.)

A lot of people seem down on the so-called "headcases". Personally,
I believe it's a sign of having a brain, and although I suspect Sveta
wishes she were a robot at times, so that these types of things wouldn't
occur, I'm glad she has a brain.

Tim--congrats on your 2nd place! That's fantastic. (I do play tennis,
and I have a brain, so am constantly fighting myself. It's really hard,
and whenever I read the crap on GM, I want to ask each of them whether
they've ever played competitive tennis. The brain is an amazing thing.
For example, this morning I was practicing my serve.
Fine, fine, fine. But as soon as I played my teacher's trick
on myself--"Hit two good ones!"--I made errors.)

May 21st, 2007, 01:23 PM
Was a strange day for Sveta, but I hope she will not be too disappointed because she showed now more than 3 weeks great tennis. Can't wait until RG to see her again. And then if she reaches the final, she'll take the title, I'm sure ;)

May 21st, 2007, 03:44 PM

When you a match like this, just like the RG final, you have to play well.
If not, you won't win.
