The Main Draw is out today, and Maria will play Ai Sugiyama in the 1st round; Sugiyama has already beaten MaKiri this year indoors at Tokyo

She basically has no luck i hope she can turn that around soon. This will be hard for her but i dont think its impossible. Good luck.

Wow. >.<

I'd like to say there is a chance she could beat Ai but I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment. :( Good luck though Makiri. :)

I think her 1st round match against Ai is one of those tossup matches. Still i really hope that Makiri can finally get a win. She`s due for one sooner or later.

 It's a terrible draw, isn't it?
I like Ai;, and she's got some decent results under her belt this year, but she got PWNED by Tatiana and Nathalie on clay in the Fed Cup, so let's just hope that Maria can just get these horrible clay results out of her system.
Perhaps I'm just a delusional optimist, but I truely believe that our MaKiri just needs ONE decent win to get over her confidence deflating recent results...
We all know that she's got so much more than she's offering in recent weeks...

DAVAI MAKIRI! :)

yup, she is up for a win sooner or later as Rod said, she is definitely capable of winning this match up, but she just needs to believe she can pull off the upset.

Good Luck Makiri;)

Oh I agree. Jankovic needed one win before she was able to get back on track. Makiri can do it too. :)

But her w/l record is getting to be pretty bad.

7 wins and 12 losses for the year. She's too young to be struggling this much but when will get back on track? Hope this doesn't take years or more months.

Believe in yourself, Maria.

You can do it. :yeah:

if she believes a lil bit in herself she can do it...clay a roma is a lil bit faster than anywhere else so it can help her...davai makiri!

Not the best draw, but it could have been worse. Sugiyama is beatable. In theory. After that it's going to be an uphill battle. Even one single win would hopefully give Maria some much-needed confidence and get her back on the right track.
Good luck Masha! :bounce:

belief is something she is in desperate need of right now, so as much as it'd be nice for her to pull off an upset, i'm really not getting my hopes up :(

she really needs a long-term strategy..not just a match-by-match objective.

that was a heartbreaker there:sad:
but this didn't seem like such a bad loss, like i said in the main match thread there are definitely signs of improvement, hey maybe she can pick up her long-needed win next tourney who knows.

Im proud of her sure she didnt come away with the win but she fought hard and def showed signs of improvement. It'll only be a matter of time before she's winning again.

:sobbing: A heartbreaking loss for sure. Looks like she fought hard. She just got broken one too many times at the end. I hope she takes something positive out of this.

What a tough loss for Makiri today. I really was hoping that she could somehow pull it out. The signs of improvement were there today, but still that offers little comfort. I really hate this slump that Makiri is in even more now.

The thought of Maria having to qualify for tournaments soon is as frightening as it is sad. And if this slump continues, and she does have to qualify for some tounaments in future then there is no guarantee that she'll even make it to the main draw.

I've just had a positive thought! When Maria does finally get her game sorted out, just think about all the ranking points she'll gain in the 2008 clay season. :)
