What grade would you give Anna thus far?
I would give Anna a solid 'B' She has been very consistent but is missing that breakthrough performance to be considered an elite player.

Players from rank 8-15 are quite close and Anna will struggle to maintain her current ranking as she has many points to defend later in the year.
Anna has to do well now to maintain her top 10 ranking and a chance to be in YEC.

January
Hobart (IV, hardcourt) - Champion :worship:
Australian Open (Major, hardcourt rebound ace) - QF

February
Paris (II, hardcourt carpet) - QF
Antwerp (II, hardcourt) - SF

March
IW (I, hardcourt) - 4R
Miami (I, hardcourt) - SF

April
Warsaw (II, red clay) - QF

May
Berlin (I, red clay) - 2R :fiery:

Future
Rome (I, red clay) - ??? - last year she lost in the first round
Istanbul (III, red clay) - ??? - last year she lost in the first round
French Open (Major, red clay) - ??? - last year she lost in the second round

A good year for Anna this far. But she can do better. I expect her to win a couple more tournaments this year and reach at least one grand slam semifinal or better!

Right now Anna is #9 in 2007 points. Kim retired, so Anna is really #8.
How you grade her would depend on how you view being in the 7-12 area.
Anna isn't playing top 5 tennis, but is giving herself a good chance at the YEC.

Anna's playing Istanbul??? that's a lot of tennis for her, since her shoulder's still not 100% fit yet.

I think she should take the week after Rome off. But she has played well in Istanbul.

Anna is doing much better this year than she was a year ago.
If she can improve a little more, she will be challenging the top 5 next year, or later this year.
She still has to improve a little more.

Is she really going back to Istanbul this year? That would be a mistake IMO. Playing five weeks in a row (six if you count the second week of the FO) is a bit too much I think, especially if she does well in Rome.

Anna has come a long way in the last 12 months or so. She might not have that "breakthrough" win in 2007 thus far (she came pretty close against Sharapova and Mauresmo), but she's been very consistent, losing only twice to players ranked below her (and both Peer and Safarova are worthy opponents IMO). A 23-6 record is very solid. She seems to have improved mentally as well as technically, and for me that's just as important. I would give her a B+ :)

I'm not crazy about it. Some icons are not as clear as before IMO, and pages do not always display properly on my browser (they're sometimes too wide). But I'll get used to it.

After thinking about it, I would give Anna an A. I think she's going in the right direction and on her way to a big career.

So, I think Anna should be seeded in the top 8 for FO right? since Clijsters' retired, Hingis is out of Rome, where she has champion points to defend.. Safina has runner-up points to defend in Rome also, and Petrova's out of top 10 already..

These grades are relative. I give Anna an A because this is the best start she ever had to a year.
I would give Sveta a B because she won Miami last year. Better than her results this year.
I give Sharapova a D
I would give Vesnina an F.
Peer gets an A this year.

Anna made it to QF in AO. Can she make the next step and advance to SF at majors this year?
If so, where at? :)

Anna is not playing Istanbul. She said before that she thought it was a mistake playing the week before a Grand Slam and she lost first round last year anyway. She's not on the commitment list.

Glad to hear that. Thanks for the info.
