Some of you may have seen the weekly poll on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour website. It says, "After three runner-up finishes, do you think Svetlana Kuznetsove will finally win a title in Warsaw this week?" The vote so far is: Yes - 13%, No - 87%. Oh dear! Obviously not many people think Kuzy will pull it off! Let's hope she will prove them all wrong. GO SVETLANA!!!

She's 4th match on Wednesday, centre court, so that'll probably be late-afternoon, against Kateryna Bondarenko.

(3) Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) d. (Q) Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR) 26 62 61

I didn't think that she will need three sets. And I guess the result of the poll is so bad, because Henin and Clijsters are playing in Warsaw, too.

Great win, Sveta. And she never gave up, although she was 2:4 down in the third set :hearts: And I think she will definitely have a good chance to beat Bondarenko ;)

I'm fine, I fell down the stairs a couple of weeks ago and hurt my ankle and was quite frustrated at not being able to move about as I would wish :explode: :smash: :tape:   but I'm ok now

I just searched for your posts and found the link to Hugo's blog
which links to your blog and Bumsby's blog etc etc etc. So that's
where y'all are...

Sorry about your ankle. I'm glad you are better.

It's so strange that people get weirded out about tennis player's
sweat; haven't they ever played before? It's not a dry game.
Anyway, it's a nice self-cooling mechanism, and I'm sure it
benefits Sveta greatly during her play. (But of course, I loved
Sabatini, one of the sweatiest ones ever.)

WARSAW, Poland -- Svetlana Kuznetsova rallied to beat Venus Williams 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 Friday and reach a semifinal matchup against Alona Bondarenko at the clay-court J&S Cup.

"It was so much fun to play, it was so much passion," Kuznetsova said.

Bondarenko advanced when Julia Vakulenko withdrew with a sprained right wrist while trailing 6-2, 3-1.

Top-ranked Justine Henin and fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic will play in the other semifinal. Henin beat Mara Santangelo of Italy 6-2, 6-1 and Jankovic advanced after sixth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze retired with a right shoulder strain while trailing 7-6 (1), 3-1.

Williams, looking to avenge a quarterfinal loss to Kuznetsova here last year, took two quick breaks to capture the first set.

But Kuznetsova found a rhythm in the second set, moving the American on the baseline and nailing passing shots and lobs when Williams tried to attack the net. Kuznetsova watched a forehand from Williams sail long to break and take a 2-1 lead on her way to winning the set.

"I was thinking I had to do better in the second and still keep fighting and keep playing and I had my chances and made the break," Kuznetsova said.

After trading early breaks in the third set, Williams broke again to lead 4-2.

Kuznetsova broke back, held serve, and then hit a deep forehand to force an error from Williams to lead 5-4 and serve out the match.

"I'm very happy to go through today's match because I think Venus played very well," Kuznetsova said.

She always looks so concerned about her opponent when
shaking hands at the net.

When she defeated Mauresmo last season, it was almost like she
was really sad that she'd won. She looked down at the court as
she walked up to the net. (I can't remember which one I'm remembering...
Miami, probably.)
