Lucka should be a third seeded player behind Bartoli and Schiavone. At least a semifinal would be nice, although I believe she can win the title again like in 2005. It should be a good warm up tournament for her before Berlin and Rome considering she was forced to withdraw from Amelia Island. Pojď Lucie! :bounce:

Don't know how good Rezai is on clay either. But Rezai beat Lucie in 3 sets at the US Open last year so it is a tough opener. Time for revenge Lucie!

Rezai isn't too good on clay as on hard I think but she reached RG 3rd round last year where she lost to Nicole Vaidisova 61 67 60 and Nicole led 61 52 so you can imagine how Lucie will crush her ;) I think 63 62 :)

Good first match. It's always good to get a tough match under your belt at the start of the tournament.

Congrats, Lucie!

Lunaris

A very tough match mainly because of Lucka's bad 1st serve in percentage (48%) and a stubborn performance of her opponent's. But it's a win against a player Lucka lost to last time they played each other, so the improvement is visible. Besides it's good for confidence that even being a break down Lucka always came back. :D

ESTORIL, Portugal - The semifinal lineup at the Estoril Open was decided on Friday and it will contain just one player ranked inside the world's Top 50. No.3 seed Lucie Safarova is now the highest ranked player left in the $145,000, Tier III event and will assume the mantle of favourite after her commanding straight sets victory over Lourdes Domínguez Lino.

Safarova has not looked at her best this week, but judging by her quarterfinal display the World No.30 has been saving her best tennis for the tournament’s latter stages. Domínguez Lino on the other hand has been in tremendous form in the opening two rounds, dropping just eight games en route to the quarterfinals. However, the Spaniard could not maintain this form against the Czech No.2, losing a grueling contest, 75 63.

"It was a pretty tough match today as she was playing such high top spin and I just had to wait for a winner," said Safarova. "although it was just two sets it was a two hour match, that made it tough."

The match was keenly contested and closer than the scoreline suggested, but ultimately Domínguez Lino was punished for taking only three of the nine break points she created. Safarova was far more clinical on the big points, converting five out of the six break points that came her way. Safarova now advances to the semifinals where she will meet the up-and-coming Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.

Another great tournament for Lucie! What a year she is having.

Should be a very tough, tight match against the supremely talented Azarenka.

Hant11
May 5th, 2007, 03:05 AM
Safarova knocked out Spaniard Lino Lourdes Dominguez 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 39 minutes to maintain her record of not dropping a set at this year's tournament.

“It was a pretty tough match today as she was playing high topspin and I just had to wait for a winner,” said Safarova.

“Although it was just two sets it was a two-hour match that made it tough. But after any match you feel better and more confident on court.”

The World No. 30, who reached the Australian Open quarterfinals (l. to Vaidisova) in January before falling in the Paris Indoors final (l. to Petrova), improves to 15-5 this year.

good win over a potentially tricky opponent on clay. :hearts:

azarenka will be tough in the next round. i feel like she and lucie play the same kind of game, but lucie has more variety and her serve is better.

but it should be a tough match.

Azarenka punished Lucka's second serve. Well, it is a semifinal, so it's not bad. The second set is worrying though. Looking forward to reports by portugese members.
