Hello to every fan of Romanian tennis!
I'm a new member in this forum, I am Daniela so that you know :) and I'm from Romania - amazing country with many rising tennis players!
I saw that there's no subforum for Romanian players which is a shame  but lots of topics for our girls... Which is really nice but I thought maybe it's also nice to make a thread where can we cheer for all the Romanian girls. I'm going to try to post some informations about Romanian girls as they come and I will also put results as much as possibly I can.
I hope you'll join me here any other Romanian people on the forum or other people who is fan of Romanian tennis :D
Greetings,
Daniela

We don't have anyone in top 100 just now but I'm hopeful it's soon going to change!
Our top 3 in detail!
WTA105 Edina Gallovits
She's born 1984... Had her highest ranking in this month this year. She's not going to be top player in the world I think but she can do well and she is making big improvements now in the playing :)
WTA164 Raluca-Ioana Olaru
Born 1989... I really believe Raluca has a great talent and she's going to be top 20 player soon! She's had some really good results this year not least in the Fed Cup. She is just needing to now improve consistency and I think we expect alot from her.
WTA170 Simona Matei
I don't know much about this player honestly... She is high ranking 145 and she had some good wins, I don't know how high can she be.
Mădălina Gojnea: She has good wins as junior, she didn't have the same succes on WTA yet but we can still hope :)
Magda Mihalache was Romanian no. 1 for a while, I don't think she can be again because the young girls are really good but she can be better than her present rank.
Monica Niculescu was good junior, what can she do now?
SORANA! Is really talented, won her first MD match on WTA this week... I think she's up there with the best 90s girls, so we can all hope for her.
I'll write more another time when I have more time :)

Romanian players in action this week:
Sorana CIRSTEA - through to R2 of WTA Budapest, will play Martina MULLER in R2.
Raluca-Ioana OLARU - seed 7 in ITF 50K Torrent, faces Oxana Lyubtsova (Q) in R1. They have not played before.
Magda MIHALACHE - lost Qualifying R2 Budapest to CIRSTEA.
Anda PERIANU is unseeded in 50K Sea Island. She won R1 against Vanessa HENKE (which is ranked around 20 places above her), will face Michaela PASTIKOVA or Bethanie MATTEK in R2.
Edina GALLOVITS is 2nd seed on that competition, she will play first round against qualifier Salome DEVIDZE.
Anamaria-Alexandra SERE which is ranked WTA528 had a good competition in Cagnes-sur-la-mer 100K qualifying, she won to the 2nd round but then had to retire against Aurelie VEDY. Bad luck, hopefully next time better!
It's all my informations for today but many are still in competition so I will keep updating! :D

Great week for our girls so far!!!! :)
Sorana is in Budapest SF winning against Daniilidou her QF today :yeah:
Raluca is in SF also in Torrent 50K, she beat y'day Marta Marrero and today Iekaterina Makarova.
And we must not forget either the 2 Romanians who are this week in USA, Edina Gallovits and Anda Perianu who both reached QF... I think QF are played today later.
Such a good week for Romanian tennis, I hope they can all continue to inspire each other to go up and up :bounce:

Well, it was a mixed day for our two new queens of tennis today. Raluca had a very good win, 7-5 6-4 over top 100 Russian Alla Kudriatseva which is 2 years her senior and higher ranked. Very good victory and it will bring her good ranking points! Unfortunately though Sorana had a bad loss to Neha Uberoi in the same tournament (Fes WTA) which was unexpected being as Uberoi was a lucky loser and lost quite easily to Raluca on the last round of qualification... Raluca seems to be much the more consistent of the two just now and her ranking is reflecting that...
Meanwhile, with the other players...
Great 2 weeks for 15 year old Simona Halep! She won two ITF tournaments in Bucuresti without any difficulties and she gains her first WTA ranking inside the top 900. She definitely seems to be a one to watch on the future! I've seen some photos of her and she is very physically in good shape for such a young player, muscle and so on. For sure it seems like it would give her an edge over her rivals, so often we saw good Romanian juniors not advance in senior competition because they are not physically fit enough to make the transition (Niculescu and Gojnea are two I think of straight away)
Madalina Gojnea lost R1 of 75K Zagreb challenger to Iekaterina Ivanova... Not unexpected because Ivanova is ranked above her by around 40 places, but she really had no problems to beat Madalina and I find it disappointing that it seems Madi couldn't even push her, this was not such a hard first round as she could have had. Madi was such a good junior but she just can't step out and her time is running shorter... Something needs to be changed and to me it seems as though she would need a different coach because she is too talented to stay at 200.
Monica Niculescu lost straight sets to Yvonne Meusberger in the same tourney, but Yvonne was 3rd seed so that always looked to be a tough match for her.
Monica had a better week last week at 75K in Lebanon:
$75,000 Jounieh Lebanon
C75 07 May 2007 to 12 May 2007 Entry : DA Clay (O)
32 W Nina BRATCHIKOVA (RUS) 6-0 6-1
16 W Joanna SAKOWICZ (POL) 3-6 6-4 7-6(4)
QF L Laura POUS-TIO (ESP) 2-6 6-3 2-6
Two good wins and a good performance against Pous-Tio who is a good claycourter.
Madi also reached QF, had a very good win over Nagy but then lost to a Slovak player ranked almost 100 below her...
Anda Perianu had a much better week at 50K Sea Island:
$50,000 Sea Island, GA USA
C50 24 Apr 2007 to 29 Apr 2007 Entry : DA Clay (O)
32 W Vanessa HENKE (GER) 4-6 6-2 7-6(4)
16 W Bethanie MATTEK (USA) 6-2 6-4
QF W Angelika BACHMANN (GER) 4-6 6-4 6-4
SF W Alla KUDRYAVTSEVA (RUS) 6-2 7-5
FR L Julie DITTY (USA) 3-6 2-6
Good wins against Kudryavtseva Mattek and Henke :yeah:
Unforunately not a lot of rises for our girls, which is disappointing as clay is a favorite surface for most of them.

Lovely lovely picture. Magda doesn't get alot of attention compared to the Romanians in the top 100 and some of the young ones coming up but personally I think Magda is every bit as stunningly lovely as Raluca and Sorana. She oozes personality too. :inlove:
I just checked the rankings, and there are so many Romanians:eek:. Most of them were born after 1988:eek:. The Romanians are definetely the next Russians :rocker2:

Bad news 100K GDF Suez Romania was canceled this year because of financial difficulties of the main sponsor (GDF Suez). The tournament was suposed to be a WTA 220k event this year but insead they can't even hold a 100k event:o
But there will be a 75k tournement in July 24 - August 1 ;) called "Turneul Ruxandra Dragomir". All the expenses for this tournement will come from Ruxandra's pocket.

Ciprian Porumb is the new Romanian Davis Cup coach
The girls' Fed Cup team will be led by Sever Dron from now on. :)
"Following the Board meeting on Thursday FRT was decided that corn is the new captain Ciprian nejucător Davis Cup team and will handle Sever Dron Fed Cup team. Ciprian corn, which is a member of the Executive Board, abstained from voting because he could not vote himself, while Dron was elected unanimously, "said Ruxandra Dragomir, who participated Friday in the second event of the 'Tennis 10" initiated by the FRT, held at School no. 45 in Bucharest.
Ruxandra Dragomir said Ciprian corn is suitable for this position. "Ciprian Maize deserves this position was a component of the Davis Cup team and has its own club, he runs very well. He will be available for Davis Cup team, where we invested a lot and best man for Romanian tennis to be promoted more, but also supported. Every player is obliged to come at the request of captain. A tennis player playing for Romania and for no particular man, "said Dragomir.
In the case of Sever Dron experience that mattered has FRT chairman. "It's a right person, with great experience, has trained top players and his experience will bring added value to the team, which is already very soluidă" Dragomir completed.
Board of the Romanian Tennis Federation decided on 20 October, the positions of captain Davis Cup team, owned by Andrew Paul, and the Fed Cup team captain, which was occupied by Irina scrounge to become vacant .
In September, Romania's Davis Cup team lost to the Czech Republic to maintain the dam in World Group, was defeated by a score of 5-0. However, Romania's team failed in early February, the qualification in the dam for the second World Group Federation Cup after he ranked second in Group D of the Third Division.

Made some statistics for this year: how many finals romanian girls played. If at WTA level the girls lost all 4 finals at ITF level things were better, especially in bigger events.
