Last year, Warsaw was Anna's best tournament ever. Until she broke through as a top player last fall.
In 2006, Anna beat Jankovic, Hantuchova and Ivanovic to reach the Warsaw semis.

Agreed, that would be cool. Anna's got a semi-final to defend here. At least she got a match in the Fed Cup on clay for preparation. Even though it was a dead rubber there was still pressure not to let her country down so I think it was a good primer.

No kidding. They have a picture gallery for (almost) every match on every court, even the qualies! And the size and quality of the photos is far superior to what's usually offered. Even though it's "only" a tier 2, Warsaw puts most tournament websites (including the "biggies" like the grand slams) to shame.

Here's what Jankovic had to say about it:

Jelena Jankovic is the first semifinalist of the J&S Cup. The Serb advanced after playing just a quarter of a set with Anna Chakvetadze. The Russian had to retire due to an injury - a pulled right arm muscle. It is still unceratin how long she be recovering.

- I noticed that suddenly in the tie-break she started playing much worse. Before that, we were on the same level. I knew it had to be an injury.I really feel bad for Anna and hope she will quickly recover.

Anna:
Jelena: :hatoff:

According to the official WTA website, Anna retired because of a "right shoulder strain".

Jelena was right. Anna was up 6-5 and serving for the set...then suddenly she lost the tiebreak 7-1.

Remember when Jelena criticized Justine for fake injury at US Open? Here, Jelena was very gracious and sympathized with Anna's injury. It just goes to show that its impossible to hate on Anna. Even other tour players.

:crying2:Poor Anna. I hope it's not too serious.

Jelena was very nice about it. :yeah: If it's just a strain then maybe it's okay.
If it's anything more serious then it's better to get it sorted out now rather than wait for it to reoccur later in the year when Anna has most of her points to defend.
