Serena has 150% points of Henin, Hingis and Sharapova while playing only 3 events

#5 and #15 only separated by around 350 points

Serena has 50% more points than Henin.

Which means that she has 150% the amount of points that Henin does

The big difference is Serena always choose quality over quantity. If she continues at this rate and get to #1 it will be self explainatory as to how she got there.

I think the race to the championship should be calculated based on a certain # of tournies rather than all tournies played because we have seen where some people get in just by the quantity they play instead of their quality to be top 8.

BTW can you imagine if they were still awarding quality points how much more she would have gotten.

Don't mention quality points. Imagine Hingis collecting them with 3xx something ranking.

Henin missed OZ Open & the whole OZ Open Series, that also explains why the gap is sooo big! but I agree it is Really Impressive!

Henin missed OZ Open & the whole OZ Open Series, that also explains why the gap is sooo big! but I agree it is Really Impressive!i think what is more amazing is that Justine has more points than Martina with half the tournaments, AND that is with missing the AO.

And Serena has 1.5x the points Martina has playing half the tournaments.. just shows that the top 2 are far and away from the rest at the moment

It's the new 2007 points system. The winner of a grand slam get's 1000 pts.

i not agree with martinas place, she should be in between kuzy and jankovic, her performances are not worthy for that third place :(

serena is really savvy about her scheduling, why run around the world playing all tournaments without accruing meaningful points.serena in three tournaments has made a cool $1,6mil.
i dont understand how some players waste money running tournament to tournament losing in the 3rd round and looking after the entourage on top of it all.

Serena should definitely play Charleston. The higher her ranking is going into RG, the less likely she'd be to play Justine or another top player earlier in Paris. Serena would lose ground in the YEC race to Justine if she were to go out in the round of 16 rather than the semis or finals, and Justine were to win it as expected.

It's the same point system as what the men are using; Roger also got a cool 1000 points for winning AO. The good thing about the men ranking is only 5 small tournaments count in your ranking if you are able to get in directly into the master events (so it does not matter if you win 8 small tournaments, i.e. James Blake, only 5 will count).

Awsome... Serena is a great fighter.. she deserve it!!

Well.. Martina is just playing what she played last year.. so.. is not really a big deal.. even this last month 1/2 has been really BAD for her.. so.. still on the 3rd place..

you can say that again! about hingis.jankovic is in a league of her own with her mindless globetrotting.

She is young and extremely fit but this mindless just playing every week is not wise and her game may suffer. Silly young girl and her game is so exciting except when she beats on Hingis of course. It would be a pity if she disappeared and fell of the charts because of this reckless playing tournament after tournament.

Relatively speaking she is still young, I mean she was being talked about and hyped 2 or 3 yrs ago and was never consistent enough to knock on a serious note for the top 15 or top 10 ranking. She really is a new face in the top 10, how long has she been playing on tour, not too too long has she? Since 2002?

I don't know why ya'll complained about Justine not playing the OZ Open so Serena had a big lead, even if she didn't play the Open, she made up for by playing Dubai and Doha.....all in all, Justine played a total 4 tournaments to Serena's 3

BuTtErFrEnA
