I like that she runs down balls that are nearly impossible to get too. She puts in that extra effort, and I like watching that.

Congrats Shahar! I know it's tough being in the first Tier I SF, but I hope you raise your game even more next time like you're capable of ;)

I think Serena's figured Shahars game at the end there. But calling Venus didn't help much in the first set.

Peer is 0-4 against Sharapova/Vaidisova though :p

I was impressed at the beginning, but don't know what happened after the first game of the second set.

Her second serve looked better today than I've seen in the past and it was holding up pretty well, but she needs to get more on that forehand to really start contending.

Serena didn't play well in the first set. Some of it was due to Shahar, but she was way off.

OMG :tape:  at Nicole and esp Maria!!!

Well done Shahar. Well played first set. But it is open knowledge that big servers always have advantage in tiebreaks.

You shouldn't have gone away in second set. Especially with Serena's tentative play in the very first game. Take your chances next time girl!

She is great to watch, and she definetly pushed Serena the most so far. I like her fight too, she never gives up. Even down 1-5 she tried to push Serena in that last game. I definetly think she has a bright future.

She did not. Shahar was emotionally very furious and I can understand her. while she has to work for every service game in the first set , Serena was blistering first serves so hard that Shahar couldn't get a single break point. it went in this patten through whole the first set, so Shahar was slowly getting more and more devestated and I can understand that. in the second set , she went 2 levels down missing easy balls and giving Serena a really easy time. She had 2 break points , I thing in the second set and she gifted them to Serena, what a shame.

yea, but those encounters are from last years downwards and Peer was a different player back than.

i'm sry but Shahar must be pissed off at her self this year....

she's so close to be that player that absolutely no one wants to play, but she hasn't produced a big win yet on a big stage. she's pushing them, but fizzles near the end. but the ground work for a potentially troublesome player on tour is already there, so kudos for her fighting spirit. she's still a little fragile though....we're pulling for cadet Peer :-)

Shahar plays with so much intensity in the 1st set, by the time the 2nd set comes around she is drained

????...ask Kuznetsova (no. 3 in the world) about this...

but Kuznetsova is not on the same level as of Serena Williams, Justine Henin, Maria Sharapova, or Amelie Mauresmo, even Venus Williams.

lol at this thread
In the end she lost, I don't think she cares about how many games she won...

I agree with your posts entirely but I believe that the first major win over one of the above group will happen in one of the next clay tournament where Peer lack of serve and her oponent good serve will be less influencing.

In tennis it's all about matchups and Shahar has the kind of game that makes Serena have to hit at least two winners per game. If Serena doesn't have her rythm Peer can draw errors from Serena. Nikki and Maria play the kind of game that feeds more into Serena's game. The problem for Peer is that once Serena gets her rythm, she's got no chance. Peers best shot is to keep it close and hope Serena starts missing. Actually that would only get her a set, she'd need to take more risk and cut way down on her errors, not to mention serve bigger. In short, she'd need to be the best she can be hope and for Serena to be far from her best.

I like Peer, she's scrappy with tons of heart. Imagine if she had bigger weapons and more consistency. That's what she needs to work on next to hang with the big girls. If her goal is to beat Serena, it's going to be an uphill battle, after going up 3-0 in their H2H I don't think Serena will come with nerves when they meet again- it could be over before it even begins.

most of your post is correct except the end. Serena will come just as nervous for every match that she will have with Shahar because she has to serve allmost her best and be on the top of her game. I will pay a lot of many to see them play in 1 of the next clay tournaments where both at their best, it's clay that Shahar has a real chance to take williams.

You think so? I don't know. I think the close finish and fierce battle of their last encounter gave Serena something to think about. Next time around Serena will think about how easily she closed her out and that much more confident the next time around. Who knows, guess we'll have to wait and see.

I think she just lost all her energy after losing the first set and wasting two break points.. She did fight in the second but didn't have enough energy to raise her level again.

I'm happy with the tennis she showed,
and I'm even more happy that she isn't satisfied with it.

Yes, she was really venting after the match. I don't know if it was in her presser (I haven't seen the transcript yet) or just to Israeli media, but she's not a happy camper.

And Serena did as many UE's in her SF match as she did against Sharapova+Vaidisova combined
