What a great match for Serena. Not only did she have to fight Shahaar, but she had to fight herself because her knee was bothering her. And just like the champion she is, she stepped it up in the second set with some impressive play. Yay Serena! :yeah:

And how good is Peer!? With every match my admiration for her deepens. I wish her the best for this year. :D

I feel Serena milked that Injury too much and exaggerated it. She was just lazy tonight and let Shahar dictate the ground battles most of the time, letting her hit the ball hard and move it all around the court while she just floated the ball back. But then, when Shahar threw up the high ball, thats when Serena Hit her winners. We only saw the injury through 5 all in the first until 1-0 in the second.. and then it was GONE  ... Im glad she won however..

She was in what i like to call "easy rally mode" tonight.. and this is what loses her matches. This is also known as Serena/Capriat US OPen 04 and Serena/Mauresmo US Open 06... She doesnt go for her flat winners enough and attempts to rally topspin but gets beat alot doing so.

I hope she doesnt do this against Henin :o

I can go on, and on, about Serena, and how great she is..especially in that 2nd set.. like Mackenroe said, what a display!!!!  However, I'm going to congradulate Shahar on a great Performance!:)

Is it just me, or does she seem to get better every match:eek: Though she suffered a beatdown from Venus in Memphis, she clearly is on the verge of challenging for majors, despite the fact that she lacks the physical power of a Sharapova, or Vaidosova!

That's a great pic, thanks Vaidisova :yeah:

Congrats Serena. I'm sooooooooooo happy :woohoo: :woohoo:

Congrats to Shahar on a great first set. She really tested Serena there. Not taking anything away from Shahar because she played very well in the first set, but I knew something was wrong with Serena though in the first set because she wasn't putting anything on her serve or her groundstrokes. When she wasn't able to get any rhythm on her groundstrokes and just floating in her serves, it became apparent that something physical was happening. But, what a champion to be able to find a way to gut it out and win that first set. What a tie-breaker. She dug deep to win that.

After the talk with her dad during the break between sets, I think she felt she had to overcome that pain and dig really deep to take that second set in a quick fashion to get off that court. I hope she gets some therapy and rest for that knee and remembers to take her meds, because she's going to have to come out in the final firing on all cylinders. I hope she is able to step up to the plate against the No. 1 player. I know she knows how important it is to win this against Justine, just like she did against Maria at the AO.

I just think she needs some rest because she hasn't had a break in five days. The other players on the other side of the draw have because the rain delay didn't affect them. Not only was her knee probably bothering her, but she was visibly fatigued.

I'm just glad she's in the final. Good luck babygirl and bring it on home. :bounce:

That's a pretty spot on analysis, I think. Serena took it to a whole new level in the second, and didn't let the pain get the best of her. I figured it was because she played so many days in a row, like she alluded to post-match.

I think we're going to see a ferocious Serena in the final, akin to the AO final. It should be a good one.

The first set was too close for comfort. With Serena appearing fatigued by a physical ailment a few games in, I would have expected Shahar to have taken advantage of it, but Serena managed to stay in there. Serena's energy level appeared pretty low on TV. However, her serves seemed to be pretty fast, anyway. They just didn't have the wow factor, but good placement. She didn't give up, even though she wasn't necessarily playing great tennis. It was just good enough. The second set was pretty different, though. She warmed up at the start of that and went on cruise control from there.

The first set was an interesting one -- Williams was playing defensive and hitting short while Peer stepped up and ripped winners. I was pleasantly surprised to see how emphatically Williams ran away with the tiebreak and the second set. I think the coaching break with Richard really calmed her down and got her thinking again.

I was shocked to hear that she has been not only playing a match every day (schedule screwed up because of rain delays), but she's been practicing TWICE a day. That's way too harsh on her knee, and I hope she doesn't do too much today so she'll be fully ready for Saturday.

If Serena can stay calm during the final and hit out on her shots and not feel the pressure, she'll win. However, I'm perfectly happy with her just making it this far-- the computer says she SHOULD lose on Saturday against the number one player in the world, and her ranking will be what, 12 if she loses in the final and maybe 11 if she wins? I'm satisfied with both. I just want her to remain healthy. :)

Congrats lady!!!

The first set was close, i was kind of worried cuz Serena wasn't grunting at all, getting pretty frustrated with herself, but the TB she seemed to get a handle on her issues.

Then Daddy Richard, he didn't even bat an eye at when 'Rena talked about the knee.

Finally, the guy in Serena's box.... happy much! That po' program didn't stand a chance when he rolled it up and started doing the "I'll beat that B*^ch with a bat" dance.

Shahar good luck for the rest of the year!!! She is very spunky!!!
