This is what the announcer said after the first set.

Well, there were no breaks of serve, Serena had two break points and lost them. Peer had no break points. Serena won two or three of her service games at LOVE! Serena won a somewhat close tiebreak.

What would define pretty? Serena winning 6-1 again???

This match was VERY competitive in the first set, yet we are ALWAYS hearing that one sided matches are boring.

WhAT THE F IS GOING ON???

Well it wasn't particularly pretty to be honest . Serena made a lot of UE's and Shahar's played better. That being said, there was a good amount of drama & some nice points with Shahar defending like mad.

Of course, an "unpretty" match can be highly entertaining (as this one has been.)

Give me a competitive "ugly" match rather than at "pretty" 6-1 6-1 any time (unless a fav is playing of course).

It wasn't pretty. Serena made 22 errors, Shahar 9. 31 errors to 17 winners isn't great, but it was a decent set with some good play.

Does this really need a thread? Why not post it in the result thread after the match. Or in the scoring thread.

Yeah, I started this thread because we KEEP hearing that matches are BORING when one player totally dominates, and bad because of errors etc.

Well in this one you got an error prone Serena in the first set.. (Not in her service games). Then a confident Serena in the second set that took no prisoners.

I think she had trouble in the first set BECAUSE Peer was returning balls that were normally winners in previous matches, and keeping Serena on the definsive when Peer was serving. Serena had only MINOR problems on her own serve. I think she won three of her service games at love in the first set.

So Serena's RETURN game broke down somewhat, BECAUSE of Peer's aggressive play. So a close first set.

Serena was broken zero times, Peer twice in the match. Peer NEVER had a break point.

Serena played well, Sharah Peer just brought it to her in the first set when serving!

No one said it was boring. According to you they said it wasn't pretty, not boring. The second set was boring, though.

I have no idea what this has to do with the thread but your analysis was pretty spot on. Serena's serve won her that set. Sharhar was playing very, very well for most of it, but she couldn't control S's serve.
