Yeah, I know that neither Venus nor Serena are really huge fans of Pam anymore. Some of the things that Pam has said in the past have not been the nicest. When you blow a bridge with the sisters, it is hard to rebuild it.

Pam and Serena were completely relaxed from my point of view. There is nothing negative to report.

She wasn't icy after the match, I think Serena is just really intense before a match.

I didn't get that impression at all in the post-match interview. :cuckoo:
And I did see a smile from Serena!

In the pre-match interview, Serena just looked focused... ;)

Nothing at all, in fact quite the opposite. Serena was laughing and being silly and her and Pam looked like the best of friends. I was actually taken back by it to be honest. I was under the impression they weren't "best buddies". I even thought Pam was being a little silly and having a good time right along with Serena.

Even during the Vaidisova match, Richard seemed, to me anyway, to be a bit chummy w/her as well...

Eh, maybe it was just Serena being intense before a big semi-final. She was completely fine after the match. I remember the interview before Serena's first round at Oz. Now that was an icy interview.

post match interview was fine ...

when did Pam become "one of their biggest supporters"? its not a hostile question, i'm just curious why my perception is so different from yours?

In the post match interview, Pam had a little bit of a revenge because she was the first one to walk away and her smile disappeared as soon as she turned away, while Serena was all smiles from winning. I thought that was funny.

Serena is always "icy" before matches. I remember at the Australian Open, some commentator tried to ask her a couple questions and she gave one-word answers. Why do they like to talk to them before the match? It is a bit of a distraction. Every player is different, but not everyone likes to talk before a match.

Wow.... I guess it's all about perception, I saw it as Pam being silly and it being in good spirit. I'm no fan of Pam's but come on people, we're strechin' here BIG TIME.

Pam Shriver is a hypocrite Serena knows very well what that witch said about her during the Australian Open on ESPN. I cannot believe how FAKE Shriver is. In Australia Shriver and that other hater Mary Carillo was racist and very negative towards Serena. Suddenly now that Serena has gotten her groove back and won the Australian Open Shriver and ESPN are all over Serena, Venus and Richard WATCHED ESPN'S coverage they know what a hypocritical bitch Pam Shriver is. And they definitely FILLED Serena in on what that BITCH Pam Shriver said about her during the Australian Open.

Exactly right. And that First round Oz interview, yikes  The commentator asked her something about being ready to be back on the court or if she felt she was ready or something and Serena said something like "Well...I'm here aren't I."

Pam was Venus' mentor when Venus first came onto the tour. How much mentoring actually went on there? Or maybe because of their connection, Pam felt that she could speak out a bit on the Williams sisters. And maybe she thought wrong. Oops!!

I dunno ... I always thought Pam was close to the sisters and the Williams family? Wasnt she Venus' WTA mentor?

Pam was Venus mentor 10 years ago. Pam Shriver and Mary Carillo are the most negative against Venus and Serena. And its no surprise since they are both white women.

I agree that Mary Carillo enjoys her acid tongue. I've only been writing and saying this since 1984! Hell maybe 83!

But I really don't get these comments about Pam Shriver. Everyone, not just Pam (including me) thought that Serena began the AO clearly overweight. The event before in Hobart she took a tough loss and seemed like she was more on the comeback trail than on the hunt.

However, Serena hung in there during some tough matches at the AO while working herself into better and better physical condition and losing a bit of weight as well (it was hot enough to sweat the pounds off for even the spectator sitting and watching). Petrova should have had Serena, but she choked, and Serena has a heart of a tiger and swept in the door and won that match!

But the truth is she wasn't 100 percent and STILL won a GS. That's the most amazing thing, and what the commentators pointed out! I felt they were dead spot on.

Serena's knee is still vulnerable to pain (as she said last night, if she didn't take her anti inflammatories and also plays to many matches in a row without rest), so why shouldn't the commentators talk about it! Especially if Serena voiced the concern to her father during the match.

Also, American television, unlike how the BBC used to be, is always looking for that entertainment angle. Its not just about showing the match. So when Peer was pushing Serena, they were happy that there was more to talk about than a blowout! Even us fans like a good match and can be proud when Serena fights through a tough win.

Pam was jovial afterwards as was Serena. There really is no story here.

Agree with what was previously posted. The pre-match interview was a little icy in a "I'm getting ready to play and I a bit nervous" way. But the post-match interview was just about as silly as you can get, with both women smiling.

LOL @ the poster that said Pam was one of the sisters' biggest supporters...definitely not the case.

Why would you know?

Pam Shriver was Venus' mentor and they have always gotten along. She's been supportive.

Some people are under the impression that any criticism of the Williams' is unwarranted which is not true and I've been a fan of Venus especially for years and years...

Too much speculating here...There's no story.

The interview looked friendly enough but the end of it was decidedly odd. At the conclusion Pam's smile suddenly went away, she said the name of whoever was the main announcer and turned and walked away. It was odd... I dont' know if it had anything to do with Serena or not.

Serena is intense before a match and never gives "warm" interviews with anyone before she steps on the court. I don't know why they even try

No Stef, there was a short interview in the tunnel before she stepped on the court in one match (I don't remember which one) and it was chilly to say the least. :p

No one who has followed any sporting event where there are pre-event interviews expects a "warm" interview before hand. The competitor is supposed to be focusing on the game. The same with coaches in the NFL between halfs. The guys usually say a few quick words then get the hell off the field. No one is reading between the lines there, because we know they're saving their intensity for the opponent. This whole thread is based on nothing. Yet, I continue to post. :tape: :help:

i saw it too, and immediately thought, "hmm something is off here.." i don't know if its because serena was nervous before the match, hence her slow start, of if he she really didn't want to bothered with Pam. Definitely sensed a terse a and curt reaction from Serena.

I didn't even see the pre-match interview. When I first saw the thread I thought you were talking about how quickly Pam exited after Serena's last word on the POST-match interview, and I was just gonna say there's a limited time, she got what she needed, etc etc... But then I read throughout the thread how hard and "unbelieving" they were in Serena throughout the AO, and I say, Well, they just did their job! Analyzing Serena during the AO wasn't being against a particular player, it was about the story of someone coming back to the top of the game after being out for so long. And it isn't as if either Pam or Mary has expressed any DISPLEASURE at being wrong about Serena during the AO; like any sane person, they've expressed amazement and appreciation and joy at the idea that both Serena AND Venus would be back this season. The idea that doubt SHOULDN'T have been expressed about Serena throughout the AO is ludicrous; if you're objective, you'd see that. And now she's back, and it's sweet. But that doesn't make her doubters racists or haters; some of them were actually just genuinely concerned and cautiously optimistic.

In my personal opinion, I did not think that Serena was "icy" towards Pam, but simply ready to play. Intense, focused, and ready for the match, but not "icy." In other words, "please move, I'm ready to play." :)
