If you are going to make both IW & Miami mandatory tournaments why not place that nice Delray Beach (or Boca Raton earlier) stop in the middle? Just remove the Stanford or Los Angeles spot from the summer and place that in the week in between these two huge mandatory events. That would prevent top players reaching later stages in Miami exhausted.

This was the common Tour schedule until 1996 and that wouldn't take away a tournament to the always loyal Florida retired residents (specially now that Amelia Island will be gone from the big league).

I know too that this was done when Indian Wells was a 1 week event but still it had a 56 draw for 7 days, now is a 96 draw for 9-10 days so no harm done.

Now the big problem would be how the players are going to play Dubai/IW/Miami in a row? No doubt that Dubai will have like always 3 top 5 players of the world via appearance fees...Another way would be moving Dubai to the beginning of the year as Doha is doing.

Looks like the WTA has a big problem here :help:

San Diego will be remove of the calendar soon so I don't think to remove another tournament in California is a good idea. However, to shedule a tounament between IW and Miami could be great.

I agree! Was Boca not propular? Is that why is got the axe?

I think Delray is a good choice , if not Houston- they are loosing the mens tounire (I think) and the cuoplme that support it are a bit disgruntled witht he ATP- so bring a WTA event back. WTA also had the 'us open wonem's hardcourts' in San Antonio for a few years arond that time- so that could also come back. Dallas? Strage no WTA events in TExas.....Def should be a tourny in bt Mi and IW

Well if Doha is being pushed up to Janurary then players would get a week off between Dubai and Indian Wells.
If Indian Wells is made into a 56 draw 7 day tournament which I really advise, it would be two weeks off between Dubai and Indian Wells for most players.

With a two week break before the Super Tier I swing the players should be quite refresh for it.

As much as I enjoy watching Amelie Island this was bound to happen.

That's a good idea..... or they could just forget about making IW mandatory since it is too complicated to get two tier 1's back to back and have dubai right before it...... and if things don't change where the WS are i think we'll see them play Dubai skip IW and then go to Miami which is what alot of players already do so by making IW madatory they are taking away from such a great growing tourney like Dubai and thats dumb to me

This is pure speculation, but I think making IW (now half-owned by the USTA) mandatory might be part of the WTA appeasing it (along with leaving the USO Series largely intact).
