From anaivanovic.com

Ana was hoping to play doubles this week at the Bausch & Lomb Championships with Alicia Molik, but the rankings cut-off was too high for the pair to gain automatic entry. Unfortunately both wildcards, including the one reserved for Gold Exempt players, had already been allocated, which meant that Ana and Molik had no way of entering.

Ok that explains it.
All for the singles now!!!

it's a pity, a win in this match would have returned her to the nr 15 spot in the rankings. it's not the end of the world though. it was a close match and golovin won only one point more than ana. but she won more important points, obviously.

I am still quite happy for Ana. I was not expecting a deep run here. I thought she would lose to Jankovic at best. She did not play badly in this match at all. She made far too many errors on BP's, but for the most part, she played a good match. I hope she can take some confidence from this event, something she has been lacking lately.

I have mixed feelings about today`s match being that two of my favorites were in it. Ana played well, but those errors on the break points really killed her chances at winning the match. :( Still it was a nice run by Ana. This was a good way to start out her clay season and get some confidence.

Just watched the match this morning. A little bit dissapointed by the loss, but it's nice to see she's fighting till the end and played a good match.

Ana was dictating the most part of the rallies, but that won't give you a win.
Ana started not great, but after 5 or 6 games she played better and better.
Golovin is fast and defended really great. She brought so many balls back.
Ana sometimes needed 8 shots to finally win the point in 1st set.
It was really a shame that Ana so simply lost her serve and the set with 6-4.
Really unnecessary.
If Ana had won that set then I think that Ana would've won the match.
In the 2nd set she had chances for a double break and 3-0.
And at 2-1 she wasted 40-15. Gladly Golovin made some mistakes at 2-2, but actually she shouldn't have that chance anyway.
In the 3rd set Ana wasted so many breakpoints. ONLY in the last game Golovin didn't face a breakpoint. Ana made just too many easy errors which gave her trouble in her service games. Again, really unnecessary.
Maybe you could say that Golovin was better at the important points.
But that's actually more cause of errors by Ana than winners of Golovin.
Ana had to play with a little more variety.
Overall I think Ana made a good performance and hopefully she continues.
Gladly there's still room for improvement so she will be even better in the future!

AJDE!!!

Eye opener. Even her good game is now not enough to beat average top
20 player. Goal is to win matches, not playing pretty shots. Now i understand
why she is losing to random journie girls.
I cant believe what im reading here. What happened with last excuse?
I dont see Shvedova making waves. And now just new excuses.
Who here really believes she can/will beat Vera/Nicole back to back?
Or is 100% sure she will beat Dulko/Q?
What excuses i will see here then?
If she stays in top 20 this season that would be success, and what about next? List of players
that were two classes bellow her and now can beat her with ease is just
growing.
Before responding with insults watch their last match to see difference,
or even any Ana match from '05. Hitting shots and winning points are two
completely different things.
Talent and potential destroyed before it even had a chance to blossom.

Uhm, should I even respond? The only match I haven't seen between the 2 is the one in Rome. In Montreal Ana played great, but you also have to look at the difference of Golovin's game. She's a lot better now (Ana is still the better player).
And about being in top 20 is a success? She beats Jankovic, reach the semis and lose in a close match against Golovin.
She will do that more often this year. I'm sure of it. Top 10 is of course really difficult. She's 14th in the race, 100 points behind number 10 and 300 points ahead of number 20.

Sorry, but actually I can't take your posts serious. (FED CUP story beat them all)

oh, come on, that's nonsense. just like your sig :p she has already reached a final and a semifinal without playing the fed cup :p

there is some truth in the comment about winning, though. ana often says that she needs to improve her game first and the results will come naturally, but i kinda don't agree with that. winning is important and she needs to win matches regardless of whether she's having a good or a bad day.

The problem is that not always the best player wins.
I actually like that quote of Ana.
She just meant, that's it's just early so early in her career and that developement eventually will pay off.

She has to improve CONSISTENCY
She has to improve being more focused on IMPORTANT POINTS.
And if she also use some more variety and improve all other things a bit, then yes results will come naturally.

And about good and bad days. She didn't have a good day in Antwerp, but reached the quarterfinals.

She played great at some points but wasn't able to reach a new level to hold Tati's serve. She needs to put more variety and tatics on her game now.She lost badly some very important points.I don't want to be negative because I think the match was quite correct and decent and the second set was beautiful, she was dictating most of the rallies but Golovin knew what she had to do while Ana seemed lost on the court sometimes. However, I'm happy with Ana's preformance. .

I would actually like to know what u think about her beating jankovic seeing as though jankovic plays fed cup. Apparently Fed Cup doesnt ensure that you win matches like you believe. What should jankovic do? just because your ranking is higher than someone doesnt mean you will always beat them, look at the cricket last night, number one south africa lost to bangladesh (a cricket minnow). it happens. Also its not like Golovin is an average player, she did beat Venus in straight sets. but you cant seriously think that playing fed cup will help her win matches.

you sure they didnt mean golovin? ana was asked like a week ago on her site about having a boyfriend and she said no, so i doubt she would say no if the commentators knew. and plus being a french volleyball player, it seems more like someone who golovin would date being french and all. i would doubt ana would date someone who was based in france (seeing as thoug she hardly ever goes there) but you never know

BLACK - bokash oppinion
BLUE - IMO

-Should i take seriously someone that puts random meaningless stats (never bageled, never lost to Q/LL...)... this stats is not much important, but tell as something about her for sure.
- About missing 2007 FED CUP... I also think that she should play, but fact is that except Ana Ivanovic, next week will miss they FED CUP matches #1Henin, #2Sharapova, #3Mauresmo, #4 Clijsters... etc...etc... and biggest name on court will be Serena Williams who will play FIRST TIME for US Fed-Cup team since 2003!
-Never use Ana/JJ matches for anything, winning or losing... I agree only for they first meeting (Zurich 2005) when JJ has been in realy bad shape and of course for w/o win in Montreal, but Ana's wins against TOP10 JJ in Tokyo or A.I., and JJs win against Ana in L.A. is good wins for both.
-Isnt it strange that only over JJ she can put somewhat decent result? Where
are any others?... Ana have some stupid loses this season, but for examle Ana have this year (so far) 4/1 record against TOP10 players!
-Golovin is average top20 player. Making out of her something just to make Ana loss better is laughable, same as saying Shvedova is good player... Right now Golovin is youngest TOP20 (and TOP40 too) tennis player in world after Vaidisova (including ATP TOP40 players ;) ) and why you compare this one of most talented world players with Shvedova? She won against Ana last week that SF match 6-4 3-6 6-4 when Ana have good chances to win, and that "average pplayer" beat before Ana Venus 6-2 6-3 and after Ana vs Petrova 6-2 6-1 - and her H2H record against Ana is still very bad 1-5!
-At end of '05 she was ranked same as now. In meantime Davenport, Pierce, Myskina...left and she is still where she was... Davenport, Pierce and Myskina is left, but players like Serena or Hingis is back. Also, she currently is #17 but is not smart already to talking about this her season before Wimbledon. We will see very soon, in next 3 months, where she realy right now in WTA.
-Miami '05 QF Miami '06 4th round Miami '07 2nd round Improvement?... If that match against Shvedova best sign how good player is Ana, i agree that she is not TOP50 player in world. But one match is prooving nothing!
-For two years there is no single sign of improvement... Not agree with that - her backhand, return, voleys and even movement is now better. Not much better, but better. She have more mental weaknes when she's younger and have even more problem with 1st service than in past, but when she improve that she will be much better player than in 2005.
-Ana is one trick pony. That trick is good enough to keep her in top20... Even in worst scenario she will be always TOP15 WTA player at end of the season in next 10 season (if no injury of course).
-On first serve her ball toss is everywhere... But on other hand right now in WTA maybe only Serena's 1st serve have more power than Ana's 1st serve! When she reach atleast 55% in every important match (and that is not mission impossible) - that will be enough for her.
-She had problems winning points and lost ton of them simply cos her shot
selection is naive, junior level. Thats only reason she lost semi... When you put 'easy ball' in net or out that is not "bad selection of shot", this is "unforced errors". Ana MUST always playing very agressive but with more expiriance, trainings and better mental game her monster UE record per match will be less in future.
-Asking again, how many of you are confident she can beat Vera/Nicole? And
two years ago this draw would be taken as easy road to semis...How many you are confident that she will lose? Also, two years ago Nicole was 15-16 old girl, but even in 2005 they H2H chances is 50/50 against Ana. Vera started 2005 like TOP10 player but have large problems with injuries that season. Health Vera from start of 2005 is better player than Ana2005 for sure.
-Vera only good win this year was over Ana, nothing else (just to prevent after talk how Vera is great player in great form)... Vera won against Sharapova one match and one lose with greate fight at AO. When JJ played her best tennis at oppening of the season - she won that final match in Auckland after three sets and 3 hours of equal play! Also, when Hantuchova playing her best tennis this march at Indian Wells (and won) - Vera zvonareva stoped her impressive winning strike in two easy sets in Miami.
-If her goal is to have fun and make some money while at it, its fine. Seems some of you are OK with supporting her as mediocre player... Of course, we have less reasons to belive now than before two years that she will be greate tennis champion, but still we have much, much, more reasons to belive that she will be one of TOP WTA players (with several YEC tournaments in her career for example) than another mediocre player... no doubt for me.

I wouldn't think Ana would lose to Bammer again. You see worse players beating more talented ones. Not that often do you see players beating much more talented ones multiple times. Bammer is not that great of a player. If Ana doesn't have a brain freeze (Something she has often it seems), she has the ability to beat Bammer easily. You of course never know with Ana though. I do think if Ana beats Bepa, she will make the final. In the semis it will be either Patty or Tati. Tatiana has said she is starting to tire. While Patty hasn't had a good win in some time.

QF: Bammer: IW2007
SF: Golovin: AI2007

She can make things right in a really short time.

For the final I should pick Li or Venus. Ana only lost against them.

Ana lose last match against Golovin and won last against Schnyder, but her H2H against Tati is 5-1 and against Patty is 1-4... maybe she have more reasons for revange in SF to Schnyder than Golovin?

good luck ana, hope she gets revenge against vera. and although she should have won in straight sets today, a win is a win.

I'm nervous about her match against Vera tomorrow. Zvonereva is a very good player and Ana's form since Tokyo has been pretty poor, but hey, she's going to arrest her slide at some point, why not this week.

She just lost from these players recently, so that's why I mentioned them.
And besides, Patty making the SF?

Ana & Venus are the last one standing in the tournament who actually won a Tier I before. What an awesome final it would be... :hearts: Hey wasn't me, who write to not look too much ahead? :tape::o

Looks like it won't be Bammer.
But Ana also needs revanche to Misa for the loss in Hasselt.
OOPS! there's still Vera :tape:

Now it's between 9th and 16th (still not thinking about it :o )

Does Ana like clay?? I think it's one of her best surfaces...
Who is her regular partner in doubles??

The best? I think it's the worst! Ana's game asks for a fast surface. Still weird that her best GS is Roland Garros so far.

Mostly she doubles with Kirilenko.

Regarding Ana's best surface, with her big serve and dangerous forehand, you'd have thought she would be better suited to faster surfaces. She won Montreal which is played on a fast hardcourt and reached the final at Tokyo which is on fast carpet, although as Ivanovic_Fan said, it's strange that her only grand slam quarter-final came at the French Open.

But then again it was only a quarterfinal and almost 2 years ago.
Like I said before, I have a weird feeling for the next Wimbledon

Have a rest Anci and I'm looking forward to seeing you play in Europe :)

Ahh! She lost so badly. I didn't expect her to win this match, but a fight from her at least. Better luck next time Ana.
She is in a bad shape currently, she has to rest up a bit.

BLACK - bokash oppinion
BLUE - IMO
this stats is not much important, but tell as something about her for sure.
Cutting second part of sentence makes it easier to respond?
I also think that she should play, but fact is that except Ana Ivanovic, next week will miss they FED CUP matches #1Henin, #2Sharapova, #3Mauresmo, #4 Clijsters... etc...etc... and biggest name on court will be Serena Williams who will play FIRST TIME for US Fed-Cup team since 2003!
Pova is not needed for Russian team, others are much older, Ana is not in their league for now. Why dont you compare her with more adequate: Nicole, Peer, Chakve... thay all put playing for their country as highest priority. Ana is only one from that crop that avoids playing for her country. No way i could praise her for that. And "let others get into world group and i will then consider" is just shameful.
That attitude will carry her just where she is, nowhere else.
I agree only for they first meeting (Zurich 2005) when JJ has been in realy bad shape and of course for w/o win in Montreal, but Ana's wins against TOP10 JJ in Tokyo or A.I., and JJs win against Ana in L.A. is good wins for both.
JJ could hold two slams and no1 and still lose to Ana. Opposite also holds.
Their matches are more dependant on their mothers than form they playing.
Ana have some stupid loses this season, but for examle Ana have this year (so far) 4/1 record against TOP10 players!
ret. JJ ret. JJ
Anyway even your 4/1 is not true. Hingis, Kim are top10, (was Nicole top10 in Sidney?).
How about her h2h against top20? It looks awful, meaning she is not even able to get to play top10 regulary.
Golovin hovers about same rank for three years now.
You didnt see talk how Shvedova is great player and its not too bad for Ana to lose to her? Or you already forgot how Miami tournament went?
How many previously bad h2h Ana turning to better?
How many previously good h2h Ana turning to worse?
Not a single sign of improvement, in any departement.
Davenport, Pierce and Myskina is left, but players like Serena or Hingis is back. Also, she currently is #17 but is not smart already to talking about this her season before Wimbledon. We will see very soon, in next 3 months, where she realy right now in WTA.
And Patty, Dementieva fading, Kim leaving... there is normal change of generation among non elite players. But problems is that all other girls use this to their advantage, except Ana. If she was average hard working girl with limited potential (see: Schiavone and many others) i wouldnt say a bad word, ever. But this is simply wasting talent. In next three months i expect just new excuses.
If that match against Shvedova best sign how good player is Ana, i agree that she is not TOP50 player in world. But one match is prooving nothing!
Is this her only bad match? You seem to like stats. Count her bad and good matches in '06/07.
Not agree with that - her backhand, return, voleys and even movement is now better. Not much better, but better. She have more mental weaknes when she's younger and have even more problem with 1st service than in past, but when she improve that she will be much better player than in 2005.
Game is more that just quality of shots, its also how you pack them when you play points.
You talk "when she improves" but if you watch old matches you can see that not single element you mention is not improved a zilch. Only return (somewhat),
BH-not, volleys-not, movement-worse (she was always better positioned for shot in past), slice- she forgot what offensive slice means, dropshots- now nonexistant....almost 1/3 of winners she was hitting in '05 were wrong footing oponent, now she rarely wrong foots anyone - means everyone can read her game now and she desperately needs new options.
Even in worst scenario she will be always TOP15 WTA player at end of the season in next 10 season (if no injury of course).
So we agree here. Her FH only is enough to keep her in top20. But for her its not success, its underacheevement.
But on other hand right now in WTA maybe only Serena's 1st serve have more power than Ana's 1st serve! When she reach atleast 55% in every important match (and that is not mission impossible) - that will be enough for her.
I gave you simple reason for her low FS%. Dig a little her FS% in '05, you will be surprised. No use of having powerful FS if you cant hit court. And not to mention how readable it is.
When you put 'easy ball' in net or out that is not "bad selection of shot", this is "unforced errors". Ana MUST always playing very agressive but with more expiriance, trainings and better mental game her monster UE record per match will be less in future.
Did i said UE? Its different when you hit UE on first or second shot than when you hit after 5 shots or long rally. So this match was actually one of her best in terms of UEs. Bad shot selection is something else. Bad shot selecion is why Golovin was able to read and return 4-5-6 good shots in a row.
How many you are confident that she will lose?
This one was too easy to predict. Sadly.
I should take as consolation that Pova is for her usual level in bigger hole than Ana? No, thanks. I dont talk and care about form of other players, i talk about Ana form here.
Using words as great fight, impressive = excuse making.
Of course, we have less reasons to belive now than before two years that she will be greate tennis champion, but still we have much, much, more reasons to belive that she will be one of TOP WTA players (with several YEC tournaments in her career for example) than another mediocre player... no doubt for me.
WOW, she will be another Patty, great.
I was just saying that based on all factors this season is over for her (in terms of her development and improvement). Wasted like last year. Point is that all other players around her age are improving and slowly but surely left her behind. And she sure doesnt have ten more years of playing in her.

If anyone thinks im feeling good writing all this, is wrong. Just cant be blind.

A lot of text, but what do you really want to say?
I say that her shots has been improved since 2005. Not as much as hoped for, but it did. I think the problem is, the way of using them.
If she just plays smarter, then it can be a big difference.
The quality of her game between matches is actually weird. One day she can hit everything and the next day it's back to zero.
I still don't have a clue about that. I guess that's just Ana.
If she won't learn HOW to play then it doesn't matter how hard she trains or playing Fed Cup every year. Then it just won't work.

In Montreal she was at least playing good at the big points. Still made too many errors, but they didn't hurt.
Like I said before, it's just a puzzle. All the pieces are there and she still has time to put them on the right places.

I had a bad day. Just hurts that Ana is losing like that.
But I still believe. In tennis things can change pretty fast.
Once Ana has found her game then she's top5 in no time. If not..........:help:

you sure they didnt mean golovin? ana was asked like a week ago on her site about having a boyfriend and she said no, so i doubt she would say no if the commentators knew. and plus being a french volleyball player, it seems more like someone who golovin would date being french and all. i would doubt ana would date someone who was based in france (seeing as thoug she hardly ever goes there) but you never know
That's what i thought as well but i listened to it like 3 times (Nouf uploaded the match on Dailymotion) and it seems he was really speaking about Ana... Well just a bizarre mystery i guess!

Last 4 decent tournaments:
Zurich '05 over JJ
Montreal '06 over JJ (w.o.)
Tokio '07 over JJ
AI '07 over JJ
Isnt it strange that only over JJ she can put somewhat decent result? Where
are any others? Should we clone JJ and put 31 of her in draw so Ana would win everything?

Where is Jankovic now  ;)

-If her goal is to have fun and make some money while at it, its fine. Its more
than most of us could ever dream. But then talk about top10 and masters
sounds :o Seems some of you are OK with supporting her as mediocre player.
But when she started i thought i will cheer for champion in making. Being fooled - thats my fault.

Talk about top 10? What a stupid thought :tape:

 Maybe you should write more of this cause it really helps. It's only 2 tournaments after Amelia Island and she's already top 10!

Sorry, just couldn't resist ;)
