Well done Emilie :D

Kind of surprising considering her form last week

Maybe she was tired, maybe last week was a fluke, maybe she just didn't play very well  Happens to the best of us.. :)

Tough draw for Bammer

Loit is lefty ,maybe Bammer had some difficulties to deal with

Anyway Loit is a really good player so it doesn't impress me she may be back in the top 30 soon.

It was bound to happen after such a good last week. It happened to Loit herself in Indian Wells after titling in Acapulco.

Yup - 1st round of Australian Open 2003 Serena won 3-6 7-6 7-5. Did Emilie have a match point or was she 2 points away?

Incidently, Serena went on to win the tournament for the first time ;)

The ratio for Serena beating Bam Bam was 2:1.
I think that's fair. Fans have the right to be wishful thinkers.

I don't see why anyone should expect a player to be motivated to play a tournament that is ignoring her progress into the top 25.
She should have been the 26th seed at this tournament with a bye.

She didn't and expecting something that doesn't come is a mentally draining, also not getting that extra day she would have had with the bye is physically draining.

It's just frustrating for a player who works so hard to get some of the benefits of the top players to get screwed over just because Miami wants to make a little extra money.

I absolutely agree with you+ if the draw would have been determined by this week rankings, the "death 1/8 section" of the draw probably wouldn't have occurred.

Scare the top American players in early rounds with a Santoro-esque game.
She's done it to Serena, Davenport, and Capriati, but Serena's was the only 3rd set that was competitive.

I saw it. It was great if you're a fan of tennis drama and not so much a fan of Serena.

However for me, I think I drink a gallon of alka-seltzers! It sucked. There was a lot of drama. Loit is a crafty player, when at her best and the fact that she's a lefty only complicates things. She clearly wasn't intimidated by Serena that day, and the history she was bringing with her. Serena, admittedly, was struggling that day and ALMOST got caught sleepin'. But, as I said, it made for good tennis drama.

It definately wouldn't have happened like this.
Serena would be the 17th seed and Sharapova the 2nd.
They wouldn't have been able to meet each other in the 4th round.

well , it could have been worse, they could have end up meeting in the third round.but could Venus and Sharapova met in the second round or seeds 1-32 have to play seeds 97-128???

You might be surprised, but I agree with everything in your post. She probably got the shaft.

But, be that as it may, part of what makes a champion is how they respond to adversity and inequity not lamenting on the injustices done them. That should be left to the fans like us. ;)

So will that be your response when two of the three biggest names in tennis Serena, Maria, Venus are gone before the QF. :p

 I hope I can be so level headed.

...but that won't happen. ;)

I can say that after Serena lost in RG '03, though I blame Henin for creating the incident, it wasn't the incident that caused Serena to lose, it was her response (or lack of response) to the incident that caused her to lose. She simply couldn't over come the adversity the incident created.

But I will FOREVER lament that one, even if she's moved on (because she has to), as a die-hard of hers, I'll never forget that.

Not sure if it was fatigue, but moving from the faster surface of Indian Wells to the slower surface in Miami can be trying for many a player.

Look Bammer has been a consistent player all year. Why diss her for losing to Loit who actually has been playing well too.

Funny how nobody mentioned Emilie has been on the upswing too.
